Rate the last series you watched - Volume XV

Sound of Metal ( 4 out of 5 stars). I was more engaged than I thought I would. I can't really imagine what it would like to suddenly lose your hearing, but this gave me a feel for it.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - It was 3.5 out of 5. It didn't feel as significant as Wandavision, which was really a tale unto itself. (Excited for Loki, and The Bad Batch soon.)

Been rewatching The Nanny on HBOMax. I don't normally revisit older shows, but it's been so fun. I'm into season 3.

Currently 3 episodes into THEM on Prime. Loving it so much.

Watched The Handmaid's Tale season 4 episode 3, and started a thread if anyone's interested.

Also, I watched The Real World: Homecoming. It was pretty incredible that Becky still holds the same white lady privilege that every other white woman who claims to not be racist and be woke does. Yet the things she said, in 2021, about race was beyond cringeworthy. Just.....GOD. I wanted to slap her. Kevin Powell struggled to make her see some things, but she packed her bags and suddenly left the loft with no warning to anyone (even the crew). Coward, like most people who just can't take the note about their inherent racism and make a correction.

Aside from Becky, the reunion was so great to watch and see these people together again. I realized just how much they helped shape the social landscape. Norman being an out gay man on a national TV show and be sexual was amazing. Kevin saying things about race that society as a whole are just now hearing since Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, etc. YEARS LATER, and folks are just how saying. It was amazing. Kevin Powell, a young Black man (painted as the angry Black man, wrongly so) and aspiring writer just wanted to make shit a little better.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

iI loved the first couple of seasons of the Real World before reality tv and even the Real World became unreal.

I watched it for just a few seasons.

1) New York

2) California (the whole David thing)

3) San Francisco (with Pedro!)

4) London (LOVED that season and recently rewatched the whole thing, still loved Sharon, et al)

5) Miami (an interesting season with the Delicious Deliveries thing; the forefront of UberEats, and that one Cuban gal who was a homophobic Republican)

8) Hawaii (with drunk ass Ruthie and that one dude who didn't click with anyone... didn't he leave? He wrote a book later)

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

9/10 For fans of quirky, smart humor and late 90s nostalgia, I recommend this eight episode gem. The music's pretty good too.

Jupiter's Legacy 3/5. This was a hard one for me to start. I got prodded so I continued. Got into it after a while. It's slow and dialog driven. Time jumping and group jumping make it a little difficult keeping the plot attention. But once the characters got sorted out it was an easy story.

great show.....great characters....great setting...NYC....

it´s about a Special Victims Unit called SVU and its part of the LawNOrder frenchize....some of the stories are probly based on a true story but who knows?

....they have some great guests , too.....they had Iron Mike Kid Dynamite Mike Tyson there....he played a rape victim and did a great job...probly a bit inspired by what he went thru as a kid.....

.....this show never gets old and Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay are so great in it....

....this the kinda show you need in times of lonelyness....just light a phat doobie, chillax on the couch late at night......sippin on some cheap wine.....takin a deep puff.....and enjoy watching familiar faces....sometimes I watch several episodes in a row...great show....great actors....

I wish Chris Melon would come back butt so far no sign of him returning for good...only as a guest....which sucks....but great show.

It´s part of the LawNOrder frenchize.

some of the stories are a bit disturbing tho....

This is a thread about a series, right?

One that might be intriquing and entertaining, but also reference all social taboos and make you laugh while thinking?

One with a great cast and set in an american city on one of the great lakes?

I pick 'Shameless'!

I loved Shameless. I gave up on it after Fiona left, but then when I heard the final season was coming, I marathoned the missing season to catch up. I was also watching The Chi at the same time, both filmed and taking place on the south side of Chicago. Almost like it's the same show, just different storylines.

I started watching the UK version at the same time I was watching the US version. But the early episodes were so identical, I fetl like I was watching the same show twice (in effect, I was), so I ditched the UK version.

Some notes...

I wasn't sure V and Kevin were going to end up doing what they did, but it felt good for them. Out of everyone, their fresh start felt most like a high-five. Debbie was getting on my nerves, and I felt like her character just flipped on a dime when she met Ms. FreshOutOfPrison. Lip and Ian both were set on better paths. I forget about Liam, though. I think he went to live w/ Lip & company, right? Carl still felt a little unmoored (as did Debbie), but they were younger, so many more solid plans didn't need to be spelled out for them.

I am disappointed that Fiona didn't make an appearance. I thought I'd heard she would, but nope. I don't know if that was her decision or production. I also sorta hoped for a moment when Frank calls Sheila (Joan Cusack) to tell her he always loved her or whatever; just to see him and Sheila interact again. But maybe that was too far reaching. (Note: Alison Janney was originally cast as Sheila and filmed in the unaired pilot.)

We'll be forever wondering what really happened to Jimmy/Steve, what is real name was, and what his back story was. I feel like if there was going to be a spin off, that would be it. Although Kev & V would be hysterical as a comedy.

A note about comedies: the studio wanted Shameless to be a comedy when it was pitched by the creators. The creators lobbied hard saying these are people who really struggle. Folks need to see themselves on TV. They didn't want a second Roseanne. I'm glad they did it the way it was done. It felt much more authentic and relatable.

While none of them were going to win the lottery, a la Roseanne, there had to be some sort of break for these people who have struggled to the Nth degree with just staying alive. All of their new adventures were spot on. Overall, I was very satisfied with how Shameless ended. It seems folks were in the right place for their characters. Frank dying was appropriate. I think instead of just dying, the added note about his physical and mental condition gave heft and validity to his death. (And that tattoo!)

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

On My Block: Season Three Premiere Date Set for Netflix Comedy Series - canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

4/5 Stars. A hilarious, yet deeply moving take on teen angst following four precocious, supersmart teens trying to survive violence-riddled adolescence in a South Central LA gangland. Brett Grey as Jamal (left) is going to be one to watch as a brilliant physical comedian, and Jason Genao (second right) is a revelation as a young dramatic actor playing Rueben.

Now I have to go back and rewatch this first part of The Nevers straight through. Don't care what RT says, don't care what the problems with Joss are this show is fun and complex and surprising. I've rewatched episodes several times already and still find new information with each watching to fill out the story. As a matter of fact I've been feeling this way a long time...this new gen of story tellers have been on their game. After years of remakes and same ole same ole plot twist. There's been plethora of really exciting new shows out here recently.

I finished The Nanny tonight. I've seen 85% of the show, but in the 97 and 98 seasons, I wasn't around a TV. So it's been nice to rewatch those last two seasons and really catch up. But I started from S01E01.

Three's Company is always going to be my #1 favorite sitcom, but The Nanny is now a close second.

Currently watching this and, excuse my french, but it's fucking dark. And not in a bloody have to look away or cringe kind of way, that stuff has never bothered me. I stopped being into horror movies in my early 20s because the violence and gore just seemed silly and fake. By the time the Saw movies and torture porn came around I had zero interest. It's the shit they're talking about and saying with complete normalcy on Mindhunter that just completely creeps me the fuck out. I'm on ep 5 and if I wasn't watching it with a couple people who want to keep going I'd probably stop. I know serial killers exist and I know they're fucked up - not sure I need to know much more than that. lol

I just finished watching the series last night and waited till then to read your comment!

It felt like they could've done one more season, but that's pretty much the feeling everyone has when one of their favorite shows ends, right.

Yeah, the Fiona and Jimmy & Sheila and What'sHisFace-with-her-daughter storylines could've made a satisfying comeback to the ending, but who's gonna pay for that?

William H. Macy will still be the "Fargo guy", but he was definately fantastic in this story!

Yes, Kev 'n' V were a definate highlight to the show, but i feel Kev was getting more ignorant as the seasons went on (and bigger lol )

NOW!

What should i watch next???

Watch The Chi. It's filmed and takes place in the same south Chicago neighborhood as Shameless. You can see the same settings outside in some scenes. I started watching The Chi last fall and did a binge on it while watching the previous season of Shameless to catch up for the final season. I felt like I was watching the Black version and the white version of the same city. haha

Also P-Valley is a romp. Only one season so far, but sooo worth it.

I'm working thru current seasons of Shrill, and Special.

I never watched Gossip Girl, but I liked Elite for the msot part. It kept me attention throughout. My only complaint is that most of the characters are despicable.
