Just started on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Late to the party but the genre hasn’t been my thing since Chris Reeves. But now it’s something to do with my 13 year old nephew who hasn’t seen any of it. We’re going with the chronological timeline on Disney+ and half way through Iron Man 2. It’s been fun so far. So do I bother going outside Disney+ to watch Incredible Hulk next? If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

No, unless you need his origin story for your nephew. Spider-man isn't on Disney+ either Time keeps on slipping into the future...

But if one has questions on why he is, then those with Norton are supposedly cannon. Those with Ruffalo don't backtrack to his origins just like those with Holland don't. The Incredible Hulk is canon with the MCU and there are a few little references to it in later movies but nothing that you couldn't afford to miss. Edward Norton was recast which led a lot of people to misinterpret it as NOT part of the MCU but it is. There are actually a few clips of the movie played in The Avengers where they're showing Captain America what he missed and you can clearly see the Norton Hulk throwing a tank in them. Plus, more importantly, General Ross from The Incredible Hulk movie plays a pretty major role in the later MCU movies. Personally, I think it would be worth watching it just to get his backstory. Plus, it has a sweet cameo from a very important Avenger.

Luckily, they're not part of the MCU so are not required viewing. Although, having said that, the upcoming Spider-Man appears to be making them (and the Tobey Maguire movies) a part of the MCU so who knows anymore?

Listening to you guys makes me think of all the conversions about what constitutes a Prince album or not. 😂 If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Listening to you guys makes me think of all the conversions about what constitutes a Prince album or not. 😂 Wikipedia has a nice list of movies included in the MCU. To be fair, unless you're paying close attention, it can be hard for the average movie-goer to make the distinction of what's part of the MCU and what's not. For me, one of the best MCU projects was the Daredevil show on Netflix. Which, incidentally is another example of a MCU project having references to The Incredible Hulk. There's a newspaper on the wall of a journalists office which has a story about The Hulk on its front page, accompanied by a picture of Abomination, the villain from that movie. Oh, and New Power Soul is a Prince album

The Incredible Hulk is one of my favorite superhero films....Norton shits on Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and the Hulk never looked better, and was totally badass. They nerfed him in the following MCU movies.

I don't know who Norton pissed off, but it's too bad he wasn't in the Avengers films. With glasses, he even looks like Banner in the comics.

From what I'm gathering Sony is working both into a Disney deal. At this point I know im not backtracking unless I have to because the earlier films weren't really setup with these newer films in mind. I wasn't particularly blown away the first time around. Through my extensive research (well, a quick Google search) I seen that there were three separate reasons given for his recasting. Kevin Feige said that they wanted to go with an actor with a more "collaborative spirit" or something like that. Which kind of makes sense. By Edward Norton's own admission he can be quite, let's say, "difficult" at times. It could be that Marvel thought he wasn't worth the trouble. Edward Norton's representative said at the time that Marvel's decision to drop Norton may have been a financial decision. Which doesn't really make sense given that even back then they were raking it in at the box office. A few years after, Edward Norton himself said that neither of the above was true and that he decided to step away to avoid being typecast. Which comes across as him trying to save face more than anything else. I mean, there's probably a bit of truth in all three stories but I'd personally think that his reputation as being a big-headed prick was the biggest factor.

Yeah, like I said, the next Spider-Man movie seems to be bringing those movies into the MCU via the magic of the multiverse. Which, now that I think of it, Michael Keaton is now set for life. Not only is he portraying Vulture in Morbius and the next Spider-Man movie but the DC multiverse is also bringing back his Batman into the DCEU. The man's going to have one hell of a retirement fund.

How'd Keaton get in on this? Given all the buzz the MCU is going to be busy for the next couple of decades. I'm kinda finding amusing. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

They've recently gotten the rights back for the X-Men and Fantastic Four so it should be interesting to see what they do with those. I really think Disney Plus is going to help them a lot too. Like, for example, rather than just doing an X-Men movie and spending half the movie introducing characters, setting up the villains etc, they could have a couple of mini series' on Disney Plus to establish these new versions of the X-Men within the continuity of the MCU, so that when they do the movie the audience have already gotten used to the new cast and characters, freeing up more screen time for a decent story to be told rather than just, "here's the X-Men, now see them fight a giant light in the sky" or whatever.

Now see as someone totally ignorant of the comic verse the XMen drew me in from the 1st. I guess I'll be hobbling in on my walker to see the new and improved version. CGI is going to be awesome in 20 years. Anyway, when they get around to bringing back the super hulk dude I might rewatch Norton. It's been a while there may be an easter egg or 2 I wanna gather. I do remember falling over laughing when I saw the superhulk, a bit overkill to me but oh well. I understand there's to be she hulk. I don't know if I can keep all this straight. But we got time.
