and be selfless for the good of all? Or do they try to take care of their self interest first putting everyone else secondary? I'm kinda on the fence on this one.

Depends on who's watching at the time.

I think most people still act out of self interest, but that more and more people realise that, in the end, u benefit more from doing 'the right thing' than going for some very short term gain (whatever that may b).

I believe people do what's in their own best interests in the long run. Even if the person does something in what appears to be another person's best interests, it still usually has its origins in what makes you feel best. And that is not a bad thing, some of the time.
