A law thriller mixed with a disturbing demonic horror story that frustratingly feels disjointed. Worth the slog for the payoff, but way overrated by the public. I'm interested in watching it again with the director's commentary. 3/5

Soul - 3.5 out of 4 stars. This movies seems more intended for adults then young children. There is a depth to it, and I definitely agree with it's major point. It creeps up on you towards the end.

Funny 3/5 gets an honorable mention because she has her version of the morris day scene from purple rain in this, first time I've seen anyone one use it.

I loved this when it came out. I just watched it again and now there's something glaringly off until I can't enjoy it anymore. Maybe it did get explained in the movie and I missed it. The whole point of loopers is because it's impossible to commit murder in the future and not get immediately caught. Yet the driving force in the movie is a murder that happened in the future by murdering the wife and burning down the house. Huh? Now I have a few questions. Can't rate til I get answers.

The Pit and the Pendulum (1961)

I remember seeing this as a kid and not really getting it. Part of it was Vincent Price's over-the-top acting being a little distracting but the other part was the left turn it takes at the end.

While it's not the best movie in the world by today's standards, maybe it was in 1961. It's got a low budget feel but it's a classic that influenced a lot of horror movies I enjoy. Edgar Allan Poe's work has generated a lot of films and this one is better than most.

FInally got around to watching this on DVD.

I went in with tempered expecations because I'm tired of comic book movies, due to the backlash it received and also because of the constant comparisons to Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. Those are worthy comparisons and I like both of those films but I didn't think Joker ripped them off nearly as much as the trailers and the reviews led me to believe.

Joaquin Phoenix is amazing through the whole movie and it's worth watching for his perfomance alone. But I think the film also touched on issues like mental health, poverty, isolation, health care, violence, fame and even race in ways that I don't think it got enough credit for. The second it wasover, I wanted to watch it again.

Ain't that right... I remember having another one around age 12 or 13 after reading Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

One Night in Miami 5/5 excellent directorial debut for Regina King. The actors were great.

On The Record (2019)

Affecting, disturbing documentary chronicling allegations of abuse against Russell Simmons by numerous women of color. Race, class, colorism, and gender all intersect in eye-opening ways. Very well done.

The Dark Valley (2014)

Billed as a "German Western", this movie was recommended to me by a family member. Filmed in Austria, the landscape and cinematography were standout features. The English overdubbing was distracting at first but quickly became use to it.

Guess any film set in the mid 1800's and has a villan is a Western but it felt more like Pans Labrynth in the approach. Kind of weird and eerie from the very beginning and it kept you guessing while using the environment as another character.

Well done and decent movie that I think I would like like watch in German to get the full effect.

Just watched this. Affleck has won the other two times he's been nominated for any kind of Academy Award and there's a slim chance he'll get one for this so I gave it a shot. I try to watch as many of the movies that will be included in "award season" as possible. Done that for years. I don't care the awards, it's just a reason to force myself to take the time to watch more movies.

It wasn't what I was expecting, which is a good thing. It didn't have the happy sports movie ending and I really appreciated that. Also didn't expect them to get so much right about the basketball, considering it's high school level.

the little things 2/5 it's like they knew they had a pretty good ending plot but filled up the rest with boring dialog that doesn't go anywhere that was obviously meant to distact from the big reveal but you no longer care and want it to be over. I think the story should have been built more on the reveal and how things went from there.

Bliss 2.5/5 it's no Inception. Very watchable but completely unsure of the point. Salma looks very good.

Celctic Paganism is celebrated in this beautiful family film, with a story that will concern you with the fate of these friends and their loved ones. With low budget but very beautiful animation, and some suprisingly good music and and a, faithful to its mythology, score. The best animated movie I've seen in the last several years. 4.5/5

I want to check this one out too. Also, Questlove's documentary, Summer of Soul, which is getting quite the buzz. There seems to be precious little live Sly Stone footage out there and I want to see it for that alone.

GREAT MOVIE. Though.... I wonder if this is how Evan Rachel Wood felt when she was with and then escaped Marylin Manson.

2017 (2019)

Sam Mendes adds a novel, pulse-pounding but affecting war film. Dean-Charles Chapman and George McKay give nail-bitingly good performances, punctuated by turns from Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch and other stars.

There were a few deleted scenes they should have put in the film but I know they wanted the movie under 2 hours

12 Angry Men (1957)

This movie felt like a play with extraordinary actors and a weird sense of the Twilight Zone. I think it's because it's because it's in black and white and I recognize a few actors from the show but I digress...

The film tells the story of a jury of 12 men as they deliberate the murder conviction of an 18 year old kid. Great acting but more importantly, the film asks realistic moral questions that apply as much today as they did in 1957. Great film.
