I was excited. Except it looks like the first season is about the Silence of the lambs (per the imagery in commercial). I wish they would skip that story line and start after that.

Now that I´ve seen every episode, it dawns on me what a great actor James Gandolfini was. I mean they were all great in The Sopranos, but he was on a whole different level of greatness. May he rest in peace.

Yeah, James Gandolfini was brilliant. A very underrated actor. The subtlety in his work is second to none. He was able to convey so much in small, subtle movements or gestures. Truly one of the greats. Deadwood and The Wire are definitely up there, quality-wise, with The Sopranos. They're both so much more than their genre would typically suggest. My cousin hates westerns but she sat and watched Deadwood (all 3 seasons plus the follow-up movie) and was literally in tears at the end because it was over. And to call The Wire a cop show is doing it a severe disservice. It tackles virtually every topic there is. From racism, schools and politics to sexual abuse, homophobia and everything in between. But the best thing about them is that they're not going anywhere. So feel free to jump straight into The Mandalorian season 2 and enjoy it. (I love The Mandalorian too). The Wire, Deadwood and whatever else will be there waiting.

I have stopped and started the wire like 5 times. I am currently on season 2 and it's slow. I would say the politics of the situation (police, gang members, and gov't officials-is done well). I (so far) like the sheild better (It's faster paced.). I haven't seen Deadwood (yet). I have seen the Soprano's (love the first 3 seasons and it was just okay for the last few seasons.

I did not get into the X-files but found her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in 'The Crown'

compelling and propelled me into further investigation of Ms. Thatcher. (Can't get enough "The Crown" as well, the cinematography is breath-taking)

She also played a subtlely obsessive/icy detective in "The Fall", which was filmed in Belfast.

I was obsessed w/her character and the series...did far too much binge-watching on that one.

She then turned around and played the bohemian sex therapist on "Sex Education" w/all of her

sex toys and phallic symbols decorating her home and office, much to the chagrin of her teen-aged son.

My husband didn't really like season 2 of The Wire either. It was a bit of a departure from season 1 so I can understand that mindset but for what it's worth, he got back into it from season 3 onwards and season 4 was his favourite. I have to say, season 4 was probably my favourite too. Deadwood is great. There were only 3 seasons made before it was cancelled but fortunately all the cast came back for a one off movie last year to wrap up any major storylines from the show. Ian McShane in particular was fantastic and gives a career-best performance. Right up there with James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano. Seriously, that good. Plus, Timothy Olyphant is in it, complete with cowboy hat, so of course it ranks up there among my favourite shows of all time.

If you like Timothy Olyphant check out "Justified" (A modern day western essentially).

Oh I'm well acquainted with Justified. One of the best shows on television. Like I always say "Olyphant + Cowboy Hat = Emma's Dreams". But aside from that, it's a really good show in its own right. Walton Goggins is amazing in it.

Have you read any of the novels? They're really good. The show is like a sequel to the books. Pronto was the first book and Riding The Rap was the second. There was a third book released during the show's run called Raylan, which was Elmore Leonard's final novel.

Star Trek: Picard (I remember, with clarity, where I was and what I was doing the night Encounter at Farpoint premiered. I was 15 years old and although I knew what Star Trek was, that wasn't MY Star Trek. TNG was my Star Trek, even though DS9 is a vastly superior series on the whole (fight me). Honorable mention: I just watched Breaking Bad for the first time last year. I'm glad I waited. There was ZERO hype for me, ZERO expectations... and I loved it.

I should quote people but I'm being lazy...

The first three seasons of The Wire are so damn good. Some of the best TV I've ever seen. Then, to me, it started to feel like they were treading water to keep the series going. Doing the same things over and over. Still has great performances from all the actors. Definitely worth the time.

The Sopranos... it's so good. So many opinions about that show. So many people dismiss it for not being as good as they expected. Expectations are like that sometimes. Regardless of what you think about the show (yes it is sexist beyond belief and no there really isn't much of anything redeeming about a single character on the show... well I could say more about that, but spoilers), but it's important to remember that The Sopranos is largely responsible for this golden age of television. HBO changed everything with that one. There was no series like that before it hit the air. Now they're everywhere.

The last season of Bojack was so damn sad. About halfway through it I realized that's where it had been headed all along. Still severely bummed me out.

Oh shit, Watchmen was great. As a fan of the original comic book and a hater of the movie I was ready to not love this one, but I did. What they did, where and when they set it, the story they told, was brilliant. It's dumb that (until now) they've decided to not do another season. Or another series. They opened the door to so many possibilities and are doing nothing with them.

The end of The Sopranos is brilliant. The show was never about answers. It was about, more than anything, the exploration of the male id, ego and psyche. It didn't require a shiny happy lets wrap everything up with a bow so people walk away feeling happygood about the ending. And I love that David Chase will go to his grave with the answer. The last season of Lost, on the other hand, I hated so much that I swore I would never discuss it again and to this day, I haven't.

I was expecting every new season to merge into a new "world", but so far we just got two "west"'s and a "real".

A few teasers of other "worlds" were thrown in, but nothing full on.

It's a great concept.

You should watch the Original British show "Miranda"-it's on youtube (Just 3 seasons-quirky, brilliant, and awesome.) Miranda is a likeble person like Carol Burnette-you always root for her.

At some point David Chase accidentally almost, or kind of, answered that question already, at least that´s how some people quoted him. I agree with everything you said above. Except for the part about LOST.

I still love that show. But it´s not a show I´d go back to or let alone rewatch every season. But I will definitely go back to The Sopranos again. What a great, great show.
