I'll be 60 in over a month, and I watch sci-fi, read comic books and play videogames....they're called "hobbies".

There's been cool things here and there, but nothing hit me like that original movie. Not even Empire Strikes Back. But I do like checking out the VFX in The Mandelorian. I do want to see the animated series since I'm seeing people rave about them. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

For me, A New Hope was 4 stars, Empire 5. After that, the series jumped-the-shark with 'Return of the Care Bears'. The prequels were, meh, but they're classics compared to what followed.

LOL I'm with you
There are some 'LEGENDS' novels that would have made wonderful movies though
But I do think some of this stuff waters down the fantasy of star wars.

I could easily defend that Star Wars is better than Empire Strikes Back. But Empire is a strange rollercoaster of incredibly intense scenes like Luke's duel with Vader or Yoda's lecture on the force and then lifting the x-wing... Those are great... but they are.... sorry but if you cannot recite the entire script of empire strikes back word for word while watching than maybe ur not a real star wars fan .. ha .. tha acting in empire is too good .. so much drama and classic timeless moments and tension with luke n vader trying not to kill his son .. i try to check out most of the star wars crap that comes out .. most of it is rough but i cant help it .. mando would be better if baby yoda wasn't just a prop at this point .. still a fun show .. so was clone wars at times .. new stuff looks good for something to watch one time .. probably not much repeated viewing tho

TrivialPursuit said: MANDALORIAN SPOILERS IN THIS POST: SPOILERS The "young Hamill" effects were some of the worst I've ever seen. Luke Skywalker has appeared more realistic in video games. But having said that, I'm inclined to give them a pass. That moment was just too fucking cool to nitpick about the CGI. It reminded me of that scene in Rogue One where Darth Vader cuts through a bunch of soldiers. Like something from a horror movie or something. The unstoppable killer. Only here the roles were reversed and it was the good guy who appeared as the killer. Plus, what a great moment. It's rare these days that things like this don't leak out ahead of time. But until he took his hood down I didn't think it would be Luke Skywalker. In fact, I was almost convinced it was Cal Kestis from Jedi: Fallen Order. That would have been cool in itself. But Luke Skywalker was even better. Despite the dodgy face.

That's a really good point about that scene mirroring the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker scene in Return of the Jedi. I hadn't thought of that til you said it but it makes perfect sense.

i don't like how they mirror parts of the other movies at all .. it is lazy and cheap .. the Sequal Trilogy literally read as tho they took all the major moments of the Original Trilogy .. put em in a hat .. and took em out in a whacky order .. mando had a lot of nostalgia fodder probably too much .. there needs to be a cool factor again .. not just a retread .. someone with some real stories and interesting ideas that go beyond find person, object goal, fight bad guys, reunite with friends .. ya know .. an actual story arc would be nice .. with an actual payoff beyond the good guys won .. at least mando was directed in a way that didn't fuck up the aesthetics like the crap they put in the PT and ST

The tragedy of Vader is, because of his injuries, he could never reach his full potential (like generating force lightning). He couldn't even breathe on his own without the suit. The Emperor even thought this in Dark Lord-The Rise of Darth Vader novel. [Edited 12/28/20 15:33pm]

I see Kathleen Kennedy is still there so I'll pass on any Star Wars releases. The Mandalorian season 2 was dissapointing to (not to mentioned that predictable ending, I saw a deepfake that looked amazing compared to that Rogue One quality disaster.)

I'll include the prequels too. As flawed as they are, they're better compared to what followed.

I watched all the movies again over the Christmas. Episode 1-9 plus Rogue One & Solo. 11 movies in total. Of those 11 movies, I liked 6 (Episodes 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 & Rogue One). Watching them again with fresh eyes I realise some things now that I didn't think about before. Episode 1 The CGI is even worse than I remembered. Plus it's just plain boring. Even the pod race doesn't excite me the way it did when I seen it in the cinema when I was 9. Cool looking bad guy who is criminally underused. Episode 2 The worst of them all, really. Like a bad cartoon at times. Episode 3 Not as good as I remembered it being. It's actually kind of shit up until the last half hour. But that last 30 minutes is really quite decent. Rogue One My favourite Star Wars movie. Free from the bullshit of the Skywalkers, it's a simple action movie set in the Star Wars universe and features the most badass Darth Vader scene ever. Solo Not as bad as I remembered but also kind of boring. The whole thing just feels pointless. Episode 4 I like this. Pure fairytale stuff only in space. Extremely entertaining. Episode 5 The best (by a mile) of the mainline movies. Episode 6 The teddy bears... Lol. For fuck sake hahaha Episode 7 Yes, it's pretty much just a remake of Episode 4 but it's well made and had some decent action scenes. Episode 8 Again, well made, badly written (a common trait for Star Wars movies) but has some good action. Episode 9 I completely understand why longtime fans have issues with this and the previous 2 movies but I like it for what it is. Palpatine back out of nowhere and on top meme-inspiring form. Overall, the Prequel trilogy is actually the best trilogy in that all 3 movies follow the same tone and story. They are the worst 3 individual movies though. The Sequel trilogy are decent movies on their own but don't work at all as a trilogy. You can almost see the seams where they've been haphazardly sewn together. The Original trilogy is let down by the teddy bear's picnic ending but of the trilogies, the Original is the strongest all rounder. The two spin-offs are a mixed bag. Rogue One is a good romp but Solo just sort of exists for no reason. Realistically speaking, I can't actually see myself watching these movies again but given how much I like The Mandalorian and the whole Star Wars setting in general, I'm eagerly awaiting whatever comes next. And if it's bad, I won't be too disappointed.
