‘Woke Santa’ Resigns ...Daily Wire
"Santa is heartbroken and crushed ... and turned in his resignation." By Joseph Curl

A mall Santa Claus in Illinois has resigned after video showing him tell a young boy he couldn’t have a Nerf gun for Christmas went viral. The video showed the boy asking a mall Santa in Norridge, Illinois, for a Nerf gun, but Santa tells him, “No guns.”
...
The boy apparently asked for a Nerf (Non-Expanding Recreational Foam) gun, according to his mother. The Santa then pronounces, “Nope. No guns.”
The mother intercedes. “Nerf gun,” she explains. The Santa, determined, continues, “Not even a Nerf gun.” The young boy swivels in his chair to look at his mother with imploring eyes.
The Santa repeats, “Nope. If your dad wants to get it for you that’s fine but I can’t bring it to you, so what else would you like? Lots of other toys, there’s Legos, here’s bicycles, there’s cars and trucks.” The Santa prompts, “What do you think?” Then again, as the boy nervously fidgets, “What do you think?” The boy starts to cry as his mom, holding his younger sibling, crosses to comfort him, saying, “It’s OK.” As the young boy squeezes his hands into fists to rub away the tears, the Santa instructs, “Don’t cry.” The mother wraps her son in her arms as the Santa continues, “It’s OK.” “My poor baby,” Sabella DeCarlo later wrote on Facebook about her son Michael. “This was the first year Michael was excited to go see Santa. It was supposed to be magical but instead I had to watch my sweet little boy fight back tears because Santa told him no because of his own personal beliefs. I had to think fast and explain to him that this Santa was just a helper and not the real guy. I just wanted to console my baby and get him out of there, flipping out on Santa would have only made it worse.” The mall said it and the third-party Santa company they employ were “distraught and deeply apologetic” over the incident. “Santa is heartbroken and crushed that he has made this child so sad and upset, and turned in his resignation,” the company wrote on Facebook. “The Santa company will continue to remind all Santa’s how important it is to not impose personal opinions during visits with the children.”

I'm sure we're all old enough here to know how this works so I'm sorry if I ruin the illusion for some of you. This guy is not the real Santa Claus and has no business speaking for Him. How does this actor who has been hired to play Santa Claus know what the real Santa Claus will or won't deliver? Damn right he should resign. Having said that, maybe we're judging this "Santa" too harshly. Perhaps he'd just seen A Christmas Story and was worried that the child would shoot his eye out. Now that's another situation entirely and if that's the case, I think he's been hard done by.

Never known such problems. As my parents did for me, my kids were never told santa was real. Never had to deal with tears and disappointment. Never had to do the whole standing in line to sit my kids on some strangers lap to ask for anything. They've expressed appreciated for that and have decided to passed on the tradition to their kids. Have enjoyed the holiday just fine without that bit. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I doubt the kid thinks Santa is real. All of what you said has nothing to do with the fact he was told he can have anything but what he wants. That can happen for a birthday party or other situations.
That this person took it upon himself to push his gun issues onto this kid, is the problem.
Nothing wrong with sitting a kid on Santa's lap. We did it and we knew there was no Santa. And I'm still going to watch the Santa Clause is Coming to Town cartoon

[Edited 12/10/20 12:19pm] If I can be serious for a second, I wholeheartedly agree with this. It's not in Santa's place to push his own ideas on the child. There's a lot of different ways he could have handled the situation but unfortunately he opted for the worst possible option. Having said that, and this is probably more for the P&R forum but I don't see the issue with toy guns anyway. I'm anti-gun when it comes to real guns but the kid was only looking for a toy gun. What's the problem with that? Even I had a toy gun when I was small. My sister and I shooting the hell out of each other with toy guns are some of my fondest childhood memories. My brother had this cool looking revolver. Looked just like the real thing. Hours of fun playing with that thing. Good times.

He even took a condescending tone to the boy after saying he cannot have a gun. And the arrogance of telling his mother what he cannot have. I mean who was in fantasy land here lol

Yeah I mean, if I brought my kid to see Santa and he told me what toys I could or couldn't get them for Christmas I'd probably lose it. I'd get them the biggest toy machine guns I could find just for spite [Edited 12/10/20 15:51pm]

Honestly while I can empathize with the parent at giving their child a carefree experience. A bigger part of me just sees an elderly person having to let go of a paying gig because a child couldn't handle being told no. I wasn't there and I don't know all the variables but I do know too many older people need extra income to make ends meet and life is full of disappointment this won't be that kid's last. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I did say I don't know all the variables also, but usually santas are elderly people which can't be verifid via an audible recording one way or the other still most people regardless of age need their jobs. There must've been a major complaint about it from that kid's parent in order for that person to feel they needed to turn in their resignation as opposed to just getting a simple reprimand. Now if the person was just responding to a company policy he couldn't agree with that's one thing. Still the idea that someone needs to lose their job because a kid didn't like being told no is a weak argument to me. I can't rustle up that much outrage over it. Odd for a kid to get that upset over something he knew was fake. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I don't get the need to stir the pot. 99.9% of the orgers who have strong beliefs against guns have long left this place. I don't care what parents want to teach their child to believe never had a strong opinion about it but it used to be heated discussions here on such stuff. Again about 90% of those have left here. It's just weird to me to feel like getting someone to lose their job over something so arbitrary is some big win over something. It just seems petty to me. This isn't a positive story in keeping up holiday spirits. I really don't get the point. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

As a department store Santa, you don't deliberately do something that might make a kid cry. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's Item 1 in the job description. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm sure there was more involved then the kid cried and boom the guy quit. All kinds of precursors are being added after the fact. If the guy knew ahead of time and took some overexaggerated stand then fine. But how this was presented says the parent went ballistic to the corp office about it and then it blew up into a big deal. The point is I personally think it's sad because it's still over a known lie. I get it, nobody is supposed to impose their beliefs on other people. I see a catch 22 on the horizon.
