Are any of you addicted to the internet?

Simple question.
It seems like we rely on phones and technology so much now days compared to 10-20 years ago
I mean we have netflix.facebook,twitter,hulu,etc
Lots of people use those daily.I feel like I am use my phone too much sometimes and would like to break the habit
Are any of you addicted to your phone as well?
Or are you able to use it in moderation?

Yes and now I feel like an enabler but the real question is what do you wish to gain from your internet or social media experiences?

Do you remember how great it was when you first began using it?
If you want to connect with your peers better, the internet maybe isn't the place to do that unless you are like me and it's too late and you have depended on it for so long but I think it's alright with balance.

What is your story?

The simple answer is the internet is more addicted to us than we are to it.

Are you basically asking does one unplug and go do something with their hands and mind for hours, beyond masturbating, as a form of entertainment?

Internet is a way to stay connected with family and friends. I have take time off from the net.

You don't need a tv or a computer these days. Cell phones do it all.

I feel like I am addicted to youtube in particular.

I never really got into facebook so deleted my account years ago. I have also removed instagram and youtube off my phone and so I do not feel addicted to my phone, though I use it for a lot of other things.

So youtube is the only issue for me. Years ago I stopped watching tv as I felt it was a waste of time. I don't miss it at all and have mostly used the additional time to learn guitar and also do a lot of reading. However it feels like youtube has now replaced tv for me.

The thing is, I have used youtube to follow fitness channels, financial advice channels and some guitar tutorials channels. So it has been useful in that way e.g. I managed to pay all my debt and save a deposit to buy a house, which I attribute to watching personal finance channels. I have also improved me health and fitness considerably, inspired by fitness channels.

During lockdown I have been working from home, but I am also now watching youtube as I work, watching youtube as I practice guitar, watching youtube as I iron, as I prepare food, as I do virtually anything within sight of my computer. So that's I why I feel I'm addicted to it. Just watching the same stuff over and over. And I think it is getting in the way of me doing work efficiently amongst other things.

Well I didn't realise I would type so much on this. This is my longest post on the internet ever.

The internet can be addictive but I refuse to watch tv on my phone especially if you're talking

about a movie or sports. Got to watch on the big screen. I'm also still a believer in the home

desktop computer as opposed to the phone and tablet although their convenient while traveling out.

You're asking two questions. Are people addicted to the internet? Are people addicted to their phones? You're also comparing television outlets to social media (which used to be called social networking but oddly changed).

The internet is pretty much a utility now, so I don't believe that's an addiction. (No more than I believe in sex addiction.)

I think people are dependant to finding self-worth or attention through their devices. Watching that Like count, or counting the comments, etc. People put weight on different things in life. Everyone's currency is different. For some folks, their currency is attention. For others, it's the satisfaction of giving a gift. Could be anything.

I have hobbies and things I really enjoy, so I'm not constantly checking Twitter or Facebook or Instagram. I certainly don't stay on my phone like that, for anything. Like someone said, I'm not watching a damn TV show on my iPhone SE. It's ridiculous for any media outlet to think that's an option on a daily basis. I use my iPad for a few games (literally 2, or 3), and to watch a TV show or movie while quilting. I also use it for referencing a recipe in Notes while cooking. It's my go-to grab when we need to look something up or whatever.

I believe anyone can partake of anything as long as it doesn't prove to be a hinderance to having a healthy and balanced life. When one thing gets too much or too little attention, the other things suffer, ergo the person doing those things suffers from an imbalance and structure; even in big or small ways.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I refuse to watch shows and movies on my phone too.Luckily I have both a samsung tv and phone so I able to use the "smart view" mode. That way I am able to project whatever I am watching on my phone to my TV.

I rather watch shows on my TV than on my phone or computer, that will never change

I feel like you typed all that so people would be annoyed and not want to reply if it means responding to your post but deleting what you typed haha didn't work. So my reply is yes it's something to do with attention but sometimes real talk offline attention doesn't work out but online attention at least holds a bit of adding space and it sorta teaches thoughtfulness as in thinking before writing and people could use some thinking before talking if that makes sense. A reply to a thread like yours forces someone to be more intuitive and genuine. Chats tend to go fast and people can be impulsive and robotic sometimes. It's different than org notes in a way as well. Either way it's a challenge to find connection on any platform and plus you never know who pays attention and who doesn't but overall I think it's less lost in space reactionary as much as it used to be. Depends on the person though.

Do you really think people type larger responses for that reason? To not be challenged? That's a new one.

I typed what I did because I was answering the OP's question(s).

I challenge myself all the time so that was really just my train of thought in replying to your post but not deleting any of it. I read the post and chose to respond based on one word you wrote that stood out (attention). I didn't even try to stay on track with the OP (SORRY OP) I didn't design this format craziness and do you even know what YOU were talking about? The design format of this site is great but obviously people get a little long winded sometimes.
Who's the OP around here.

Deep breath. I feel like people don't watch YouTube the way it's intended anymore. Try watching your video feed but pretend the title of the video is actually above the clip and not beneath it. It's fun. Try also listening to music but scroll up and down and pretend you're editing a video that is funny too.

I don't really like social media.I tried Facebook but it was full of people posting pictures of their kids and drama.Like, their would be a woman saying "you did what with my husband?.....you did WHAT with MY husband?"
People are so sensitive now days I guess and are just looking for something to fight about it seems so I deleted it.
Although It was great meeting up with old friends again but that's only good for a bit because most of them have a busy life now supposedly or are either too far away to hang out.
The internet was great when I first started using. This site here was actually one of my first websites I ever discovered.
I just feel that crap like Facebook and twitter is more bad than good.

I don't know how it was intended, I could have left that line out maybe, but it was just a segue way to talking about how I have been seeing it lately.

Funk, sugar, Prince's music, definitely chocolate...but the internet? No

Social media addiction is a real thing that I've witnessed first hand. People use it as an escape from their lives by thinking it's a better reality than the one they're living. Thinking social media is reality is pretty far from the truth and leads to a low self image over time.

The phone is a tool like the internet but these are not the problem.

I have no State Mafia antisocial media accounts. I subscribe to no entertainment service. I don't even use a phone. I must have my laptop though. 99.999% of what's on the internet is noise. Bookmarks are for everything that isn't.

I don't think I am. I'm a very sense/sensual driven individual. The internet repels me at times.

I easily detach from using it, And most of my use is researching art, culture, music. But that only follows my love of books and magazines. I also have a very rich social life.
