Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has died

He died this morning in his sleep, surrounded by friends and family.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

This news just came up on my phone. I'm so sad. I've been watching Jeopardy for 35 years, rarely missed a show. Not sure how the show will do without him, he was a legend. RIP Alex, my fellow Canadian, we will miss you sad

There was a name floated last year or so when his cancer was announced, and who may take over. I can't remember who it was though.

I go through phases of watching the show, just depends on if we wanna give up that extra 30 minutes after Wheel of Fortune (which is more about my roommate watching than me), or if we wanna sit and watch. He certainly made it his show.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think Ken Jennings will take it over. He's the all-time champ and I think they've been grooming him. I'm sure he'll do a decent job, but I'll miss seeing Alex every night.

Yeah, but it was someone else's name who popped up. Ken is a consulting producer and clue crew person on the show now, which I thought was sorta cool.

Apparently all new episodes with Alex will air through Christmas Day.

I think Ben Mankiewicz would be a great replacement. George Stephnoicantspellhisnamepolis has been floated, too.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He fought a good fight against Pancreatic cancer, even continuing to work while doing so. I didn't expect him to beat it but he lived as long as one can expect to with Stage 4 Pancreatic cancer, which took my Dad last year. Rest In Peace, Alex Trebek.

I believe it was only March 2019 that he announced his diagnosis. So he hung on for not even two years. It looked grim, then it look really good, then it looked grim again. I told my friend, "he's not gonna make it this year." Not as a Debbie downer, but because I just didn't think, especially after the sudden downturn and setback he had, that it was going to be a good ending. Plus he said he would not seek further treatment if one he was trying didn't work out.

He went out like a champ, a star, and a boss.

Always had a man-crush on Alex. Nothing but nice things said about him, never a bad word, to my knowledge. He will be missed. neutral

ABC News to Honor Alex Trebek With ‘20/20’ Special

©ABC/Courtesy Everett Collection
.

ABC News has announced that they will celebrate the life of late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, who died on Sunday at the age of 80, with an hour-long primetime special.

Titled “Alex Trebek, Remembered: A 20/20 Special,” the show will air on ABC Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET. The special will profile Trebek’s life and career with rare footage of his early days on television, and will feature his interviews with “Good Morning America” co-anchor Michael Strahan and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” co-anchor T.J. Holmes. In these conversations, Trebek discussed what he wanted his final days to be like and what he learned while confronting stage four pancreatic cancer.

.

Strahan’s interview with Trebek’s wife of more than 30 years, Jean Trebek, will also air during the special. In the interview, Jean Trebek opened up about living with Trebek’s cancer and how it has impacted both of their lives. Lastly, the special will showcase Robin Roberts’ interview with Trebek after he first revealed his diagnosis, as well as tributes from Trebek’s co-workers.

AD

“Alex Trebek, Remembered” will be hosted by ABC News’ Chris Connelly. “20/20” is anchored by David Muir and Amy Robach. David Sloan is senior executive producer and Terri Lichstein is senior broadcast producer. Ann Reynolds is senior producer, and Alison Lynn and Tami Sheheri are producers of the special.

.

Trebek revealed in March 2019 that he had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Sony Pictures Entertainment, which has owned “Jeopardy!” since its predecessor Columbia Pictures Television acquired Merv Griffin Enterprises in 1986, has confirmed that “Jeopardy!” episodes hosted by Trebek will air through Dec. 25.

Both he and Connery gone within a couple of weeks of one another. Sad but fitting in an odd way. 2020 strikes again.

Not so odd, especially since on Saturday Night Live, a Sean Connery character always trolled the Alex Trebek character on their version of Jeopardy!. If memory serves.

That's what I meant by fitting. You're right- it's not so odd. Coincidental is a better way to put it.
