Your weakest claim to fame

A recent Twitter thread asked the question, "What's your weakest claim to fame? I once dated the cousin of someone who played a cat nun on Doctor Who."

I added a few fun responses:

  1. I stepped on Lou Gossett Jr.'s foot once at a taping of sitcom 227. His then-wife was a guest star as a jewel thief. I had a reserved seat 2 spaces over from him. I stepped in, stepped on his foot, sat down & turned to apologize. Then realized “OH SHIT! IT’S LOU!” I was mortified!

  2. I was also on a local late night talk show on channel 6 in Tulsa circa 1994. They had a small in-house band. I used to cut the producer’s hair, & he put me on the show cutting the keyboardist’s hair during the show. It was insane, and funny, and ridiculous. I wish I had a copy of it.

  3. When I lived in Los Angeles, I was in a church play (how, I have no idea), and Sugar Ray Leonard was there. He was a dick after. Faith Ford (Murphy Brown) attended the church quite a bit, she was always lovely. Sally Strothers visited, was a joy. I think even Alice Cooper

So what is your weakest claim to fame?

My parents dragged me to see Bob Larson, the "exorcist" that has/had a show on TBN, in the year 2000. The Channel twelve news was there. No sooner did he call out for demons than the woman next to me started screaming and shrieking demonically and my bright red, terrified looking face was on camera. It made the 10 o'clock news, though I never saw it because the seminar lasted til after 11.

OMG I was on his radio show one time in 1993 or so!

Man, too bad that clip isn't on YouTube.

I saw Ben Vereen in Walmart long tome ago. All I did was stare at him trying to make up my mind what to do next, mostly because I couldn't conceive Ben Vereen would be in my city in a Walmart of all places. Nah I wasn't seeing correctly. He walked passed me and whispered, yes it is. Turns out that evening on the news he and Muhammad Ali were doing some benefit in the city and were at the nearby park walking.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Turns out it was actually Feb 28, 2001 in Portland Oregon. I remember it was the same night as the Temptation Island finale, which I had to miss.

Once when I worked at Crate & Barrel a co-worker said "hey do u wanna help this lady? she's famous from tv and she's kinda a b--". I said cool ok who is it and they're like Sofia Vergara. Anyway I went to meet her and begin shopping, she was decorating a patio and other rooms. We shopped together for over an hour! She was not a b at all, IMHO.

.

Then a few weeks later I was working the cash register and I look up and see someone waving their hands at me, its Sofia Vergara again looking to do more shopping. So we did another hour or so. I heard that later on she returned most of it.

.

Also once in middle school I was in jazz band and we went to a convention in Atlanta (my first time flying). Me and a friend were horsing around near an elevator and I literally ran into George Benson. He was really cool about it, laughed it off but I was super embarassed when I saw his name tag cuz he was like a headliner for the whole convention.

Someone mentioned Sophia Vergara... made me think...

When I was a hair stylist in Tulsa, a girl and her son came into the salon. Her hair was orange and wrecked. I helped her pic some shampoo and a conditioner, gave her a few tips. I knew I recognized her, but couldn't think of it. It wasn't clicking. I even looked at her check, and her name on it didn't totally ring true. I collected her things, and walked across the way to Kay-Bee Toys.

Then it hit me.

It was Dana Plato, who played Kimberly Drummond on Diff'rent Strokes. Her family is from Tulsa. She had mentioned how she was in a movie and they dyed and fried her hair to death (they did; I think it was Lethal Cowboy because she said it was a western).

I really didn't know much about her plight past the dry cleaner story. But she had quite a struggle with money, and drugs in life. She died in Moore, OK (a suburb of Oklahoma City, about 98 miles from Tulsa). She was super kind and sweet, and signed an autograph when I approached her minutes later. Her son couldn't be less interested. He was shopping for POG cards or whatever they were called.

Thankfully her check didn't bounce.

We met Morris Hayes at the 'Dorian Gray' in the Frankfurt airport after a 1998 concert.

My then wife wanted to light a candle at the table and instead lit her sleeve.

The jacket was similar to the "U Got The Look" jacket, but synthetic.

Morris laughed after it was extinguished and said, "whoa! my draws look just like yo jacket! NO SEX TONIGHT!!!"

Dana Plato only has one child, Tyler Lambert, who died in 2010 (born in 1984). He killed himself while living in Tulsa, OK.

I don't think she had siblings. She was adopted at a young age. The adoptive parents divorced a couple of years later, and she lived w/ her mom.

Then I has an ex who looked like Chuck Norris. People would always stop us to ask if he's Chuck Norris. Good thing for them they didn't start taking pix or I would've had to give them a 1-2 punch, or karate chop!
It was the hair and mustache I guess. lol

Jason Momoa is from my hometown and my friends have occasionally spotted him driving around town.

Keanu Reeves had an uncle that also lives in my hometown.

Fans of neither but, AweSoMe! smile

My Mother (RIP) and Patti Austin were friends from teenagers, growing up in Bay Shore/Brentwood New York... when Miss Patti would come to card games my mother&father would have on weekend nights, she would always ask me and my sister to dance while the grown ups would play records and laugh, and give us quarters or dollar bills if we were lucky

I'm a son of a powerful politician in Mexico, I won't say who because he's very close to the shitty president Lopez Obrador, so I don't get along with my father he has sold his soul to that crook president and his horrible criminal administration. This much I can tell you, they want to move this country towards the closest they can get to comunism.

Not really my claim to fame but this happened to a former friend.

He lived and worked in San Diego at the time. I forget the type of company he worked for; he was in accounting.

One day, someone had brought up Michael Jackson. He was right in the middle of the conversation, just talking shit about MJ, up and down, front to back. He was not a fan.

A bit after that died down, he was called into his boss's office. The boss told him that his conversation about Michael Jackson had greatly upset one of the coworkers in the office. At first, he sorta shrugged it off as, "whatever, get over it." But he learned the coworker was in tears, very upset and emotional.

Then he put it together, and the boss confirmed it. The coworker was Valencia Jackson. Valencia is Marlon Jackson's oldest child. Ol' boy was talkin' shit about her uncle, Michael Jackson.
