We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The thing is., this is still America... that type casting is still relevant as it was back in the day. Yet, there has been movement and they'll be more movement when black folks get more money to do whatever.
That being said, | |

You mean like what Disney (Song Of The South, edited Fantasia), Warner Brothers (Censored 11 cartoons / Bugs Bunny WWII Japanese era), & CBS (The Amos N Andy Show) does with their stuff. Lock it in a vault. You can only get Amos N Andy as poor video quality public domain bootlegs which don't have all of the episodes. As far as I know, it's never been offically released. CBS has the original footage which looks as good as I Love Lucy, but won't release it. There's not even really anything wrong with the sitcom, it's not like Stepin Fechit or whatever. My mom has DVDs of the show and I've watched it. Some of the people who complain about it today has never actually seen it. Ironically the movie Check And Double Check with the original white radio actors of Amos N Andy in blackface is officially available to buy. The old silent movie Birth Of A Nation is also officially in print, had been restored without a fundraiser, and taught about in film schools. What I've never supported is censorship: I'm well aware that the Entertainment Industry was used as a tool for encouraging and supporting the ideology White Supremacy. One of the biggest problems about people in the United States, is our inability to critically think... much about anything. It explains why this nation is in the state she's in at present.
What I do respect about Tuner Classic Movies, they aren't just airing those movies or short films without critique. Over the years the film historians have expanded their critique on why these racist images were pimped as representation of my people, people of color. Haven said that, Amos N Andy is based on minstrel shows of early 19 Century. Minstrel shows lampooned black people as dim-witted, lazy, buffoonish,] superstitious, and happy-go-lucky.
What I'd argue we all need to think about the images that are being presented to use. The operative words is the ability to separated bullshit from facts and truth. The power of manipulating images to dehumanzie others has led to human carnage.

The TV show isn't really like that. If you replace the black actors with white ones, it's not much different from I Love Lucy or The Flintstones. There's no one on the show like a Jethro from The Beverly Hillbillies. Kingfish was always trying some get rich quick scheme just like Lucy was always coming up with a scam to get into Ricky's show. There were black doctors & lawyers on the show who talked in so-called "proper English". It's not even like more modern shows like Martin or Meet The Browns that a lot of people today accept. Tyler Perry didn't become a billionaire to buy his own studio from not having an audience.
