Halloween this year?

So I know that it’s a big deal in the U.S.

What’s your plans and how will be it be different this year?
I guess trick or treating won’t be popular etc?
If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Halloween is my Christmas, I love it. Being in the UK though its not quite as widely celebrated as it is in the States, though we are starting to catch up.

Even though I get candy / sweets in every year we barely get any trick or treaters round our way ... in fact the last two years I don't recall getting any. With COVID I suspect it'll be banned this year anyway. As for our celebrations we normally have an evening in front of some horror films with family, but as we restricting our mingling it'll probably be just me and the missus.

As long as I can still watch Halloween (1978) with some junk food and some candle-lit pumpkins I'll be happy biggrin

I've always hated Halloween. Even as a kid, I hated it. I make a big deal for my daughter because she loves it but it's not for me.

However, and it's a big however, I do like to use it as an excuse to watch some horror movies. My husband and my cousin who lives with us, both hate horror movies. My husband just doesn't like movies in general and my cousin is terrified of horror movies so I don't really get the opportunity to watch scary films. But at least on Halloween I can convince them to watch something scary.

I'm not into Halloween but I'll probably pass out candy this year. There'll be trick or treaters because for the most part people are out and about almost normally, everything that is opened is packed within their guidelines.

All I've got to say right now is nobody better show up at my door as Topsy or Bopsy, I got a mallet for 'em. I'm still creeped out.

Why??? I like going to haunted houses when I was a kid, was fun. Kinda different now, kids don't go house to house asking for candy. Now my wife (who loves horror movies) and I get a pizza watch the original Halloween movie and Halloween 2.

Not passing out candy this year but starting a new horror movie marathon tradition.

Not sure is my wife is in but the "13 days of Halloween movie marathon" is in the planning stages. The plan is to make half of the movies ones I haven't seen before.

I will do the usual: Put up some Halloween decor, buy candy for me, friends and their kids, watch TV/movies. If I am in the mood, I will buy a costume, take some pics and post some on Instagram.

Halloween in Ireland is probably different to Halloween in America. Like, there's kids trick or treating and all that but there's also bonfires. Thousands and thousands of bonfires. Young boys between the ages of 8 and 15 (thereabouts) are out collecting wood pallets and shopping trollies for weeks in advance and on the 31st of October they'll put them into a big pile and set them on fire. Never made sense to me. Just seems like an excuse for little shitheads to act up. And worse, they don't stop at just the bonfires. Where I grew up there'd be playgrounds set on fire, fireworks thrown through people's windows, all sorts of stuff. And for weeks leading up to Halloween you always get fireworks being set off all night which drives the dogs crazy and between the fireworks and the barking it's impossible to get the baby to sleep. The whole thing should just be cancelled. I hate it.

But pizza and Halloween (the movie) sounds like a winning combination. Might do that myself this year.

I had to google Ireland, bonfires, and Halloween and it's a neat tradition! lol

Halloween Traditions:
Halloween Bonfires are traditionally lit across Ireland to ward off evil spirits. Ancient people believed that a strong powerful sun kept the forces of the Underworld in check, however they could rise and become more powerful again when the Sun was at its' weakest.

Yeah but you ask any of the little shits why they're doing it now and they don't know. It's just an excuse to cause trouble and set things on fire. Until I was about 7 or 8 years old, I lived in an apartment in a block of flats. One Halloween, a group of young kids set the place on fire. As in, right outside our apartment. They got petrol and a match and set it on fire. I won't tell you what they did to the ducks in the duck pond nearby.

Halloween brings out the worst in people.

Yep, that's me. The last time i gave out candy was over 20 years ago. i gave out a few pieces and when the next door neighbor came over, my brother gave him the whole bowl(20, 30 something pieces of candy). i just remember that the kid's eyes lit up big as heck. After all that sugar, and for a few days, he probably was bouncing off the walls.

i love Halloween, but not giving out candy. i can't be bothered. mad confused

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

The American Horror Story Marathon that’s lasted for almost 4 years?

I really hope that it’s not renewed for a 2nd season.

Oh sorry to hear that. Yeah there's always some people that have to ruin it for everybody else. I know in Detroit they use to burn abandoned buildings during Halloween, not sure if that still happens

I've been eyeing these up for a little while now as most of them are on Netflix. I've avoided them in the past because they look a little too polished to me ... are they worth a watch?

The series I really wanted to see was the slasher/1984 one, but that's not on Netflix in the UK yet neutral

Hopefully this will give them more time to iron out any issues with it.

I saw the last one opening night and came out thinking it was good ... then rewatched on blu-ray and realised how flawed it is. The whole Dr Sartain thing? Eugh ...

Well, since Halloween is on Saturday this year (i.e., a non-work day), and since I have an eye appointment on the 26th, I may celebrate by driving to my favorite optical place in Milwaukee and buying new glasses.

I think it's the way they move that takes it there for me. Actually seems they ramped it up just in time for Halloween because there's a lot to choose from in costume ideas from the show. I'd choose the warrior women. Yah!
