If you were a vegetarian would you consider eating a bug as eating meat?

I am not a vegetarian, but the thought came to mind today as I was running and swallowed a big fly.

I was about 3 miles into a run and was breathing pretty hard when a fly of some sort flew into my mouth and down my throat before I had a chance to react.

I was actually pretty grossed out for a minute, but I think that the fly provided me with some valuable nutrients which allowed me to finish the final 2 miles with a good pace big grin

So is a fly considered meat?

Under normal situations I would agree with you, but if a fly decides to kill himself by flying down my throat while running there isn't much choice in the matter.

I am a vegetarian (14 years and counting, yo) and yeah, I'd consider it "meat", but even moreso, even if I were still omnivorous, I'd consider it GROSS!

But in that situation, I mean, what can ya do.

Hitler was a vegetarian which shows it's not always a good thing. Sometimes it leads to genicide.

I applaud your vegetarian ways, but 14 years without a thick steak drool I couldn't do it.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with your take on the fly situation.

Hey, it's not for everyone - I'll be one of the few hardcore veggies in the world who says live and let (kill and) eat. The only problem I have with meat-eaters are the ones who have a problem with what I (do or don't)eat...who gives a shit what another person puts in their mouth?! Just don't make ME eat it!

SOMEONE on this thread (no names, but I see her driving around the Burger King drive-thru in her shockadelicar) seems kinda threatened by the idea of vegetarianism...why is that?

And why is it that when a meat-eater hears someone's a vegetarian, they have to respond with "oh, well, I likes me a big ol' steak!" I mean, I'm gay, but I never say to straight guys, "women are cool, but I gotta have me a big ol' juicy cock!" He likes what he likes, I like what I like, and we all sing freakin' Kumbaya into the sunset!

Why is difference so threatening to some people?

And if it's just a matter of different = scary, then...

Good point. I got no problem with people's values. As long as they don't try and force them on me, I've never been one to preach to others.
