A strange confession about coming back from parties...

Sometimes I wonder how it'd be to come back home from a party with your wife, a little drunk, in the late 60's to the mid 70's. There'd be no TV at night, no Internet or smartphones, and you'd just put a vinyl record or maybe turn on the radio and groove on some jazz, soul or funk, chatting and munching before going to bed and maybe making love.

.

For that reason, sometimes when me and my soon to be wife come back home from some party, I play an early/mid 70's record on the computer and stay away from the phone.

.

Nostalgia from a time just before when I was born (1976)... Maybe how I imagine life would/could have been for my folks before they spoilt it all by having a baby...

.

I must be insane sad

I don't go to many parties. In actual fact, I don't go to any. Those days are thankfully over. But for what it's worth, neither myself nor my husband ever have our heads buried in smartphones or television. The only time I use the internet is to check the org. My husband doesn't use the internet at all. Perhaps we are a bit old fashioned. I was born in 1990 and he was born in 1979. We're not old. (Well, he is). But even my daughter, who is nearly 9, doesn't watch much TV. We do, however, listen to music a lot. I don't have a record player but I do still almost exclusively listen to music on CDs.

So if you're insane. I guess I am too.

databank has painted the picture so beautifully with this post and it comes from a place of being real and human, you are more sane than you realize.

I was born in the 60s. I grew up in the country, but did live part of my life in the city. In the country, my aunt and uncle went to bed after the 10:00 news. There were times when we did stay out late, and there was late night television, like the Bijou Theater (which I loved staying up to watch on a Friday night). I think TV went off the air around 2:00 AM.

What I remember most about the late nights were we'd sit outside on the front porch, on a summer night. Us kids would be running around, playing flashlight tag, or catching lightening bugs, and the grown ups would be sitting on the porch drinking coffee and talking. In the city, they would sit outside on the front stoop while us kids ran around the neighborhood. It was definitely a simpler time, where the neighbors knew each other and would drag you home by your ear if you misbehaved, or even spank you. (Can you imagine a neighbor spanking someone's child today?)

People looked out for each other. Heck, I can remember going to bed with the front door open, screen door unlocked, and all the windows open, to get the night breeze. Every Saturday we looked forward to Saturday morning cartoons and going to town to do grocery shopping. I do miss those times. And the organic fruits and vegetables sold today, were just food to us, they weren't organic and weren't more expensive than the other.

But there were drawbacks to that time, too. Everyone knew your business and they'd get up in your business too. There were party line phone lines. If you had an emergency, you'd have to get on the phone and tell the old lady down the road that she needed to get off the phone because you have an emergency, and would still have to wait another 10 to 15 minutes while she said her good byes, and you could guarantee she'd pick the phone back up to listen to what your emergency was. You had 3 TV stations ABC, CBS, NBC and if you were lucky you could get a UHF channel. Worry about the energy crisis. I remember a commercial that showed a family at home during the winter, when all of a sudden they lost all their power. It used to scare me. You could only drive 55 mph. And back then people smoked everywhere, in the office, at hospitals, hotels/motels, everywhere.

Not in France. At the time there were 2/3 channels, only until about midnight.

Oh I'm not nostalgic in the sense I'd like to have been born earlier, more as in I'd like to go on a holiday in the past sometimes biggrin

I think you have the right heart about life.

I'm someone who still thinks going for a walk at night or as the sun is going down is wonderful. Or just going for a small roadtrip or drive around the City or country with some music

There is a sadness to times gone by. I'm glad I experienced life with a walkman and without cellphones

If you two every decide to watch a movie or tv after getting home, make it something from the 70s or early-mid 1980s
