RIP GALE SAYERS

Gale Sayers, the dazzling Chicago Bears running back and kick returner whose injury-shortened career made him the youngest player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, died after a yearslong decline in health that included dementia. He was 77.

Sayers died Tuesday at his home in Wakarusa, Ind., his stepson, Guy Bullard, told the New York Times. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced the news Wednesday morning.

Right up there with Jim Brown, O.J. and Sweetness as one of the greatest RBs of all time.

Nice words from Billy Dee Williams and James Caan;

the Great Gale Sayers was the greatest pure runningback in NFL history...the way he could change directions at full speed and put moves on people BEHIND him, was beautiful to watch...him and OJ Simpson couldve been superstars in ANY era...its a shame that OJ will never be properly remembered for his amazing talents due to him allegedly killing folks

Yeah, but this is really about Gale Sayers, and not the murdering OJ.

He was before my time but watching film of him he was clearly Barry Sanders
before Barry Sanders. I would list Gale Sayers, Walter Peyton, and Eric Dickerson in my top 5 favorite backs to watch.
Don't laugh at my funk
