Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police (2012)

Told from Andy Summers' point of view, this documentary tells the story of one of rock music's greatest bands, that IMHO, is sadly less appreciated with time. Unfortunately, neither Stewart Copeland nor Sting have any substantial input. Throughout the doc, which covers the band's reunion tour, Sting comes across (through some fault of his own) as aloof and treating his bandmates with regal contempt.

Still, this is a good watch for big Police fans.

The Future (2011) - When a couple decides to adopt a stray cat their perspective on life changes radically, literally altering the course of time and space and testing their faith in each other and themselves.

I recently read an article about actor/director Miranda July which portrayed her as a very unique character and made me seek out some of her films including this one. The whimsy is heavily applied with the talking cat narrator and time manipulation in the final third although it all made sense thinking about it afterward. 3/5

Ant-Man (2015) - Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

This is the Marvel movie in which I think the humor works the best. 3.5/5

Limitless (2011)

This movie was a fun ride. Not a fan of Bradley Cooper generally but he really was good in this movie. Abbie Cornish as the female lead and was really good and Robet Deniro even had a cameo.

Concept of a drug that opens your mind to be able to connect what others can't see was really intriguing. The camera work had something I haven't seen before...the forever zoom, pretty cool the first time.

Without ruining the film, for most of the movie I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and then...

Did you see Blended?

I understand this movie is part of a franchise, I haven't seen the others... I can't say if I watch they others my overall thoughts would change. Be that as it may hears my review.

It was a good action pack flick that kept me on the edge of my bed. I say this even though the action was predicable - how and the hell people can beat the crap out of each other and move around - the story-line was interesting enough to want to flow it to its conclusion. The "heroine" of the movie was some type of Black Knight figure recusing women from abusive relations by night and computer hacker by day. The beginning of the film explains why and some other things.

The main premise is, Lisbeth Salander (actress Claire Foy) is asked to steal a computer program back... giving the US the power to activate or nullify anybody else nuclear arsenal. On second thought the creator of the programmer decides the program is too harmful for anyone to have it and hires Salander to retrieve it. The action begins and I found myself saying, WTH, when impossible situations were escaped and difficult plans of action were successful. Action pack through out rather enjoyed it.

The Big Sleep (1946)

In the mystery movie thread Emma suggested this classic (Thanks Emma!). Hard to believe I had never seen this movie. Guess I don't know as much as I thought I did about Film Noir because this movie seems like a bench mark in the genre.

Lauren Becall and Humphrey Bogart had some screen chemistry without a doubt. Recently learned because of the relationship and several movies they were known in the media as "Bogie and Bacall".

It's a mystery film with cool character actors and a plot that keeps you engaged throughout the whole movie. The fact that Lauren Becall was a model before she was an actress is not suprising, she's so beautiful. This movie is a time capsule that holds up extremely well.

Love on the Run (1936)

Oh, man. Where do I even start with this? Terrible movie with Clark Gable and Joan Crawford in the leads, obviously made by MGM to hop on the success of It Happened One Night (1934 Best Picture winner from Columbia Pictures, also starring Clark Gable, directed by Frank Capra). Only in this story, instead of one reporter, there are two (Gable and Franchot Tone) battling over the story of a runaway bride (Crawford). What it lacks in story, it makes up for in screaming. Yuck.

The House of the Devil (2009)

Nailed the 80s feel and hair styles with a classic 80s song too. It's not the 80s nostagia feel that makes this movie so good, it's the tension that it builds with every camera shot. Recognized the actor Tom Noonan (always creepy) but the other actors were new to me.


With this title, it's obvious shit is going to go down but...the way it's done is interesting in so many ways that it stays with you after the movie's over. Predictable in some ways, not a lot of violence but without giving too much away, it lives in tension and then delivers. Masterful excercise in storytelling with almost a Hitchcock element that I can't put my finger on.

I'll definitely have to watch it again.

The Devil's Backbone (2001)

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro. I'm a fanboy for this master story teller but somehow I missed this movie. As a fan of his more recent work, it was interesting to see his earlier stuff.

It's a ghost story with a slow build and a great resolution. Interesting that it's set in the same time period of history as Pan's Labyrinth, the Spanish Civil War.

This film feels like a dream sometimes and is an amazing masterful creation. Watch it if you like a good ghost story, highly recommended.

OH NO-! I love movies! I cannot WAIT for the theaters around me to open and start showing good films.

I watched this movie on Amazon Prime a week or 2 ago.




It was ok. Not really all that great, but entertaining. 1/2

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)

Pure fun Halloween watch, though not enough zombies. The main cast (Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone and Jessie Eisenberg) are back and Rosario Dawson and Zoey Deutch are both great additions (especially Deutch, who was really funny). Loved the cameos from Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch as the main duo's doppelgangers.
