Oh one show does comes to mind and that is Legends of Tomorrow. The concept was good, gather some DC heroes (and a few bad guys, which I didn't like) have them team up, fix the time line and stop Vandal Savage. Season 1 wasn't great (plus they didn't know how to use Hawkman) but it just got worse and worse as the show continued. Last few seasons is just a big joke, characters act like goof balls more than super heroes. Plus Greg Berlanti is involved so you know it's gonna suck.

I don't think ANY SHOW should have just one season. Three seasons I think that's cool. Sometimes these shows need time to get their footing.

Heroes and Lost are prime examples of shows that should have stopped after a maximum of 2 series. Both started off great, but went nowhere.

Perhaps, but that doesn't really work for shows like Castle Rock, American Horror Story, Haunting of Hill House, etc., that are anthology series. Every season is totally different story, etc, so there is no footing to get that way. You got one show in 8-12 episodes to get the whole story out. I sorta think that works in the writer's favor because they're forced to really hone in what's good and what's fluff.

I definitely disagree with such a blanket statement. In addition to shows whose quality seriously dropped after one season, there are shows that cover historical events and characters that can be difficult to expand for more than one season. For example, Hulu decided to limit Mrs. America to one l season, and quiet rightly so. It was about well known leaders of the feminist movement in the 70s. To be respectful of those people, you can't keep adding weird twists that aren't true just to extend the series. Gloria Steinam becoming an undercover hooker with a cocaine addiction might make for an interesting story line but ....

I joke.

But on that note, Picard. I h-a-t-e the first season. Don't need to see much more of them all running around to do something for 2/3 of the season before finally doing it... whatever it was. I don't remember. Super disappointed.

The finally 2 episodes were good for Picard. I like the cast of characters. I think season 2 could be even better. (No more setting up the cast backgrounds.)

I'd agree. I said that after episode 2, it was just boring until the last 2 episodes. Everyone was busy getting ready to be busy or something. It was like one long ass intro to everyone and everything. Season 2 can't be worse.

Off the top of my head:

1) Killing Eve - agreed

2) How to get away with Murder - rapid downhill after season 1

3) Happy - was great as just one season, didn't need more

4) Thirteen Reasons Why - as 3)

I agree especially on 13 reasons why. Although, if they really felt they had to make a second or third season, at least end the 3rd season logically. Seriously, it gets dumber and dumber. There's no way in hell not even one of them kids wouldn't have crack under that pressure. They're teenagers. I just hated how they said they wanted to help teenagers to find solutions with this series, when all they are doing is to find different reasons for these kids NOT to find solutions, just so they can stretch the plot over 13 episodes. It's ridiculous. Didn't even bother to finish season 4. From I what I heard, they didn't solve their problems and still managed to finish school and move on with their lives. Sounds totally realistic. Sorry for the rant, but I just finished season 1 and I'm fed up lol

American Horror Story

That first season felt like a movie and it had great closure.

I only made it to the fifth season, I just lost interest...or maybe it was the gimp fucking people to death with a sharp metal strap on.

It's kinda a hard to think of a show that should be limited to only one seasn, but I can think of shows that went on way too long.

Lost. I agree with Emma, but I think maybe three seasons would have been good enough.

Smallville - I think 5 seasons would have been enough to tell the story of Clark Kent before he became Superman.

X-Files - Should have gone off the air once Mulder left. Even worse they continued the series when Scully left.

100% agree with the above.

I used to love all three of those shows, especially X-Files, but when the show jumps the shark and the networks keep them going with subpar casts and plotlines.

I stopped after season 5 too, but I went back for season 8 apocalypse; it ties into earlier seasons including Jessica Lange's character from season 1. (Jessica Lange came back to play that character). I think you will like it.

All I could come up with was Kimmy Schmidt. I see it has 3 seasons so far, rates really well but I couldn't get into season 2 and bounced in the middle of it. I can't think of anything else. Most shows I need a season 2 if I liked season one.

Anytime they add another character to reinvent the show (AKA oliver on the Brady Bunch, Scrappy on Scooby Doo, olivia on The Cosby Show, etc.) or when they change the format of a show entirely like Rosaenne's final year (original show) is when the show should end.
