Anytime they add another character to reinvent the show (AKA oliver on the Brady Bunch, Scrappy on Scooby Doo, olivia on The Cosby Show, etc.) or when they change the format of a show entirely like Rosaenne's final year (original show) is when the show should end.

Oliver Tyler | The Brady Bunch Wiki | FandomTHEN: Joseph Gordon-Levitt | Child Stars: Then and Now | Funny, Taylor swift songs, Funny quotesScrappy-Doo | Scoobypedia | Fandom

Though a show with cousin Oliver, Olivia, and their talking dog Scrappy Doo solving groovy mysteries kinda sounds interesting hmmm

It would be called Scrappy-Do!

Netflix’s Russian Doll told a complete story in 8 episodes, and was terrific. The upcoming second season is like making a sequel to Groundhog Day, it shouldn’t be done.

Just think, the Godzilla cartoon started from day one with a typical season 2 extra little character:

Godzooky makes cameo in new Godzilla movie!? - L7 World

American Horror Story

That first season felt like a movie and it had great closure.

I only made it to the fifth season, I just lost interest...or maybe it was the gimp fucking people to death with a sharp metal strap on.

hmmm

I lost interest too - it got to be more about the grotesque shock value than stories that were truly creepy and eerie. I hear Roanoke was the best season - need to find and binge that some day.

I think a lot of people were thrown off by the fact that American Horror Story became partially comedic, satirical, and "Roanoke" had some hilarious moments... yes, I mean comedy on purpose.
