Rate the Last TV Series You Watched #2

Snce Carl Reiner passed recently, in homage to him they showed a couple colorized versions fo TDVDS so I went back and wacthed some choice episodes.

poster-780.jpg

The show ran from 1961-1966. Besides being very very funny, was innovative and even challenged social perceptions of the time such as “That’s My Boy??” (Season 3, Episode 1)
In the series’ best flashback episode, Rob recalls how he became convinced that the hospital where Ritchie was born gave the Petries the wrong baby, building up to perhaps the biggest laugh in the show’s history. It’s a reveal too brilliant — and, for its time, too daring — to be spoiled here.

Oye Arnold!

Have you already given the chance to one (to me the greatest) cartoon ever, Hey Arnold? don't fool yourself, it's much more than a kid's show, far from that, it's full of beautiful nuances and wisdom. The 5 seasons are marvelous, out of 100 episodes 95 easily and without getting over the top with my statement, are just great.

I bought the complete series on DVD a few years ago and been binge watching it this past few weeks. Very good and interesting. So far the stand out episodes of season one is The Inheritance, that doll was spooky, Scarecrow, also very spooky for the time and The Baron's Bride, good story with Micky and Ryan going back in time to London to fight a vampire (and shot in Black and white) and "Pirates Promise" was another good episode

This docu-series wrapped up tonight. On the whole it was very satisfying but like all other things that build to a climax (Like Christmas morning) , once it happens and there is nothing to look forward to, the thrill descends a bit. Still the final episode interviews an ex-finace with a distrubing story and many of his victims, now seniors themselves.

Watching how crime writer Michelle MacNamara worked tirelessly to solve the crime was fascinating, and it literally consumed her. Once they found the killer (Joseph DeAngelo) all the instincts she verbalized in profiling him were amazingly accurate. The method of elimination of suspects using DNA was also very compelling.

Even the police sketches of him were uncanny:

DeAngelo was a 72-yr old frail man who'd retired just a month before his arrest. Another chilling fact was where he lived when they found him.

On YouTube 24 hours in the past. 6 people living in Victorian England for 4 day. 4.5/5. They did not walk into a Jane Austin novel that's for sure. It was a giggles and jokes the 1st half of the 1st day but by the 2nd day the reality set in hard. All I can say, people were really strong inwardly as well as physically back then that's for sure.

Unorthodox 3.8/5. I like when it's not about the husband being a abusive ahole. He was a sweetheart but sometimes one has gotta live their life.

Killing Eve

Killing Eve - Season 1 - 4 stars of 5 (seen on Hulu)

This was interesting with the characters more complicated than they first seem. I always have appreciated Sandra Oh and the self-conscious and quirky characters she plays including Eve here. It is also good to see a woman with Asian roots play such a central role, which is a rarity.

Season 1 wrapped up last night. I am a sucker for noir set in LA in the 30s/40s, but this was a pretty fun ride. Matthew Rhys as Mason, a private investigator turned attorney who is trying to mend his own messy life while saving the life of the defendent is an interesting premise. Rhys does a good job playing the title role who he is a flawed hero for sure. Nice cinematography uses specific angles to transform present day LA to 80 years ago. Costume and sets were well done also. The series ties up lots of little subplots but also leaves many open to be continued.

I'll give it 4/5 star

Season 1 was brilliant. Season 2 was absolutely terrible. I only watched episode 1 of season 3 and gave up. Such a shame, it had such promise.

Vienna Blood 4/5

A three part drama where a student of Sigmund Freud helps a detective solve crimes by profiling the criminals.

That is disappointing to read given that I plan to continue watching it. I will still give it a chance and am curious what changed in the sbow and if it changes how I feel about it too. Given your opinion, I will not stick long with it if I start hating it too.

We're all different. My friends loved season 3, so I'd definitely say stick with it for a bit. I'll await your opinion on season 2 with interest. Season 1 though, I agree, is excellent.

I loved it. And the mayhem that came at the End of the episode came out of nowhere. Loved it, and love all the characters.

I know nothing of Lovecraft, but now I see there's a bunch of stuff behind it. I hate all the innuendos are going to go straight over my head. But I'll still watch.

After season one, I read some views on this thread that Season 2 was much worse than the wonderful Season 1. This made really curious about how I would respond, and what were folks reacting to in Season 2. I actually ended up enjoying Season 2 with some qualifications. On the positive, I thought Sandra Oh's acting was even better in Season 2 than in Season 1, as she met the challenges of portraying a very complex and ambiguous character. I experienced Season 2 to be every bit as compelling as Season 1. On a the other hand, the storyline seemed increasingly inconceivable, which made it harder to fully buy into it. Also, the pivotal last episode just left me feeling dissatisfied and triggered the thought that I might just be finished with the series.

The entire season 2 I would rate 4 out of 5, just like Season 1.

Nevertheless, I somehow can relate to people being put out with the 2nd season, especially how it ended.

Joelle Finally Gets Her Own Episode On "Dear White People"

I have enjoyed the first two seasons of the show. I do find it erratic, as some episodes are really good and others are far from it. More often , there is a fairly big variation in quality within a given episode. Season one was somewhat hurt by it the constant calling out of everything that is potential racist as well as the superficiality of how many of the characters were portrayed initially. I agreed with most of the content of the calling out, but at some point it is not particularly entertaining. As the show progressed, it is was enriched by deepening some of the characters by showing their backstories as well as more aspects of their current lives. This helped Season 2 have more touching moments, but unfortunately Season 2 was hampered by some ludicrous story lines.

Season 1 - 3.5 of 5 stars

Season 2 - 3.5 of 5 stars

I'm really glad you enjoyed season 2. Interesting that you watched them back to back whereas I waited a year between seasons (I watched them as they were shown on TV). Maybe the hype and the build-up built up my expectations too far? I absolutely agree that the storyline was too far fetched. I'll be interested to see if you watch season 3 and how you rate it.
