I Know This Much Is True...acting was amazing. However it was SOOOOO depressing and I wasn't crazy over the ending. But Ruffalo deserves an Emmy. Shouts out to Rosie, who I normally can't stand but she was great in this.
Dead To Me...great as ever. Very entertaining show.
I finally caught up on Succession on HBO. This and Ozark are my fave shows at the moment.
I am just starting Season 3 of Succession after catching up wiht the first 2 seasons. It's very very compelling. I did not watch Ozark but will need to since I have only heard good things.
Agree about YKTMIT - Ruffalo was excellent - the ending, not so much.
Ozark and Succession are both really good. Neither leaves yoiu with a great feeling about human nature, but man are they both compelling. The last season of Ozark was by far it's best IMO, and deserves several Emmys. |

Finally imbibed Season 2. The writers of this show have come up with some amazing plot twists that keep the madcap tension going in season 2. They introduced some new secondary characters including Frances Conroy and Katey Sagal, who is always very good. Applegate and Cardilini are still outstanding.
1/2 out of ---- the 1/2 star is for bringing James Marsden back as his twin brother, a trite, but not irksome, device.

Really enjoyed this also. It's a "what's going to happen next" show...they always rope me in.

I am just about to finish up season 1, which has been enjoyable. How would you compare it to season 2? |

Well, anything you watch for the first time wihth a unique premise is super fresh. Season 2 is more of the same good stuff from Season 1 - these writers know how to throw in good plot twists and the storyline is plotted and paced so well. I think if you watch them back to back you will get the same flow, by S2 you know the characters better and they know each other better as well, so the dynamic between them evolves as the plot twists are revealed.

Finished The New Pope last night. I really enjoyed it. Those are all such great actors and roles. There were more surreal moments and symbolism in TNP than TYP. But even the title credits and ending credits are different every episode (although the last 3 episodes or so have the same title credits).
Both are on HBO.

Like Dimi said, it's hard to top that first but the second was still entertaining

Watched season 1 of a series originally on PBS and ACORN but was on Prime. So good but scary as hell. All too real. It's a Swedish series so has subtitles. "The series follows the work of Inger Johanne Vik (Melinda Kinnaman), a Swedish criminal psychologist and profiler, who has previously assisted both the Swedish police and the FBI in the United States."
Series 1 was about an American right-wing radical hate group that targets gays. It tackles autism, homophobia, greed, jealousy, religious hate and fanaticism. I love the lead, Melinda Kinnaman. I think I'll pay for Acorn so I can watch season 2.

I, Claudius (1976)
Featuring a young Derek Jacobi in the lead role of the TV adaptation of Robert Graves' novel, this groundbreaking BBC series lacked big set pieces but featured an all-star cast. Bigger budget series like Rome and Game of Thrones owe it a debt of gratitude. For GoT fans, James Faulkner, who plays Randyll Tarly in the series, is vibrant and funny as Herod Agrippa.

One of the best mimiseries ever. Paid 100 bucks for the VHS boxset back in the day... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I'm waiting for series 2. I love anything remotely like the Swedish versions of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I loved both the American and Swedish original versions of both. Loved the books. But Hollywood dropped the ball on the rest of the books. The Girl in the Spider's Web was awful. Love the Swedish films though.
On another note...I'm late to this series even though I adore Laurence Fishburne, Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen. But Hannibal (on Netflix now) is so stomach-churning I could NOT binge watch it. Had to be taken in very small doses. I thought Silence of the Lambs was graphic. I remember sitting in a theater in Myrtle Beach when SotL premiered. I was terrified when I left and for years avoided anything close to a white van or men with casts on their arms.
But this series is alternately gripping and terrifying and revolting. Strangely though...I find myself voraciously hungry after watching for a while.

I loved the Swedish Dragon Tatoo movies! I think it's because the charcaters were not perfect and beautiful like the American version. The two films seemed almost identical as far as depiction of the novel, one just had a bigger budget so the production value was better. The novels and the Swedish films were popular among the indie crowds, but mainstream moviegoers were not that hyped about the series and I agree the studios did drop the ball with the exception fo the first one by David Fincher.

Agreed...and seldom have I loved different actors in the same role but I loved both Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth. However, I did not care for Claire Foy at all. Jeez...I guess this should go in the 'last movie' thread. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack |

I never thought I could like watching a TV series that had Phyllis Schlafly as one of the main characters, but Cate Blanchett is such a good actress she makes it interesting.

This docu-series is riveting. How Michelle McNamara investigated the crime story is as interesting as the grizzly murder spree that covered years. The murderer would have gotten away with it all had it not been for her obsessive persistence. Then, after getting almost to the end of the investigation and her book she unexpectedly dies - the whole thing is compelling from the get go.
Two more eps to go but so far of 5
*May come back to update rating when last ep is seen.
