This is what a modern VIDEO GAME looks like!!!!!

...for those of you that are not into games, since we were discussing them in that Animal Crossing thread, THIS is what a modern game looks, or at least, CAN look like!!!! :

https://www.youtube.com/w...4hZfhSBuZk

Admittedly, this is on state-of-the-art hardware - but MY GOD! This looks better than REALITY!!!!

Does anyone here play games like this????

Stunning looking ... pretty much photo real!! I'd say 99% of gamers are at least a couple of years away from this being the norm though ... the rig running that must have been otherworldly and pricey as hell.

Fingers crossed the playability and in-depth gameplay also follows. Its great having a game that looks this amazing, but if all you can do in it is the same stuff you could do back in GTA3 on the PS2, it'll feel a bit redundent.

As I've mentioned before, my brother works for a video game company in France and I've been told that over the next few years, there's going to be a huge jump in visuals in games. The Xbox Series X, specifically, was singled out as being an incredible piece of technology. It's basically a €2500 monster gaming PC that costs a fraction of that amount and actually runs games better than a PC of equivalent specs. So pretty exciting, then.

Personally though, and despite my family loyalty, I don't care so much about the next Xbox or Playstation. They can have all the power in the world but they'll never have Mario Kart or Zelda.

This. I love my playstation but I won't have any desire to play any game on it if the new breath of the wild gets released. The last of us part 2 looks great and ghost of tsushima is on my list as well, but they're just not Zelda or Mario.

My little brother worked on Valhalla. It was actually the very first game he worked on. That was about 3 years ago. He did some artwork or something. Very technical stuff that goes well over my head.

The final game doesn't look like that trailer. The trailer was CGI. I'm led to believe that the game itself looks great though. Just not THAT good.

The PS5 might be simpler to develop for (well, according to that one guy) but the Xbox Series X is way more powerful. There's no debating that. It's a fact. Both companies have already released their specs. In terms of raw power and graphical capability, the Xbox is better. Of course, it remains to be seen what they'll actually do with all that power. What kind of games come out on it. And like I said before, it will never have Mario Kart or Zelda and all the graphical horsepower in the world will never make up for that.

Yeah they have a promotional deal with Sony. That's why they used the ps5 to show the unreal 5 engine. Which is why they use ps5 as an example. There's also this link here;
https://www.eurogamer.net...-of-chorus

This developer says that the Xbox is easier to develop for.

According to my brother, neither one is easier than the other. Getting past all the technical term and nonsense jargon they are essentially the same. The only difference is that the Xbox is slightly more powerful and capable of better quality of graphics. But the reality is that games will look near identical across both consoles. The Xbox will probably run them at a higher frame rate and slightly higher resolution but that's it.

The PS5 is said to have much faster SSD drive (2x as fast as normal SSD) and that's what makes the PS5 more interesting regarding the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo. The Unreal 5 tech uses the faster SSD in addition and to help out the GPU to load and display the amazing visual much faster and with slightly more detail.

I'm waiting for the official pricing to see if I'll go for the PS5 or Series X first (eventually I'll probably have both and my PC for first person view games.)

The gaming future looks promising!

It won't make much of a difference though. The PS5 has a faster SSD, the Xbox is more powerful overall. But at the end of the day, they're still more or less the same thing. Neither has a big advantage over the other in any aspect that we know of. Ultimately, it will all come down to which has the best exclusive games. I only know what my brother tells me and the games he's working on are coming out on both so it's all the same to me.

What I'd like to know is, whether the PS5, or, if it comes down to it, the other one, will be usable as a standard PC. VERRRY important for me!

I can 100% guarantee you that you won't be able to use either of them as a standard PC. So if that's important to you, you're going to be disappointed.

Yeah, I'm a computer person. lol
Since Homebrewing is still the norm modding a PS5 should be quite easy to run Linux or something just like the PS4 was easily modded to run Linux.
The original Xbox and the 360 were easily hacked (Homebrew) to run XBMC and Linux, the Xbox One however seems to still be a problem. A lot of mods are required to run a really barebones Linux dristro.
I suspect the Series X will be further locked down and more harware would be required to run anythig else. The PS5 I suspect will be as easily modded like the previous PS1 - PS4.
I think only finding workable drivers will be a little problem but there are more than enough community resources and people who are dedicated to modding driverpacks.

Load times on the PS5 will be much faster than the Series X and the games using Unreal 5 Tech will look slightly better and will perform slightly better on trhe PS5 than on the Series X (this is according to the Epic Unreal 5 tech guys).
I think, for now to me, that is more important than exclusive games. Besides Sony always wins when it comes to better exclusives. MS's exclusives aren't that interesting to me, but to each it's own, it's a matter of taste of course.
To me the most important things regarding the new consoles is:

1. Performance and look/feel of the games

2. Framerate (MS's wins this hands down Sony, this is MS's main focus for the Series X and makes it a hard choice for me, but again eventually I'll buy them both.)

3. Backwards Compatibility (MS's wins this from Sony for now. With MS having an extensive library from the OG Xbox to Xbox One MS's aim is to have the majority playable (free if you already own the game on one of the previous systems) but ultimately it's up to the developers of the game to allow MS to have there old Xbox360 game playbale on new systems, MS has said all the old games games are playable but only if the developer gives the go ahead. Of course it's more lucrative and interesting for the developers to release a 'Remastered' version of there old game at full retail price than having people play the old version on a newerr machine.)

4. Exclusive titles.

I don't think load times will be much faster on ps5. From what I understand, quicker load times is a priority for both companies. Ps5 may well be faster but a few seconds won't make much of a difference to me. I'm very impatient but not THAT impatient 😄.

The Xbox One really struggled with exclusive games. I actually can't think of any that I would be interested in. So the PS4 definitely won out in that regard. But didn't Microsoft buy like 20 game developers or something ridiculous like that. I'd assume they won't make the same mistake twice.

Backwards compatibility is probably a big factor for me too. I only play about 4 or 5 games a year and I've got about 50 that I haven't even started yet. Being able to play those on the next consoles is a huge plus. My brother was telling me that I shouldn't buy an Xbox though. That I should get a ps5 and a good PC (he's going to give me his) and get that Xbox game pass thing so I can play Xbox exclusives on my pc and use the ps5 for the rest. What do you think of that? Would that be worthwhile, do you think?

That's actually a very good tip I haven;'t even thought about.
My PC is fast enough for the time being and I'll only upgrading the GPU probably in a year or two.
I'm gonna take your brothers advise and buy a PS5 first and test the Game pass out with my PC and stream it to my TV in the living room. If it's not satisfying I'll probably end up buying a Series X just to have it around, gonna need some space tho so i'll probably have to sell some old consoles sad

The difference between a 5 second loading time on PS5 and a 10 second loading time on Xbox Series X might mean a lot to you but it certainly doesn't mean much to me. Microsoft have already demonstrated how quick load times will be on Series X and it is very fast. PS5 will no doubt be even faster but we're still only talking about a difference of a few seconds. So I stand by my original stance of there not being MUCH of a difference between the two.

Can you please point out the other time where you think I have given wrong information?

I think the PS5 won't have any load times because the SSD (it's an M.2) is so fast it removes load times and transisions are instant and you won;t see any loading.
The Series X will have a standard load time so that could be anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 seconds.

My brother is only in the art department so take what he says with a grain of salt but he's seen games running on PS5 and there are definitely loading times. Now, he describes them as "lightning fast" and while he didn't get his stopwatch out to time them, fast travelling in the new Assassin's Creed took between 2 and 5 seconds. Not saying that can't be improved upon before the game launches but just don't get your hopes up that the ps5 will completely eliminate load times in all games.

From what we've seen demonstrated so far, there won't be much of a difference
between the two. Obviously, it's all relative but even if there's a game with 2 seconds loading time on the PS5 and 15 seconds on the Xbox, I still wouldn't consider that to be a big deal. We're talking about the difference of a few seconds here.

I don't have a dog in this race. I don't even plan on buying an Xbox but I'm just trying to bring some impartiality to this. Domainator has a massive grudge against Microsoft (don't get him started on Windows) so he'll take any excuse to run down their products. So just in case any orger wants impartial information on the next gen consoles and looks at this thread to get some idea of what to expect, at least they can see that both consoles have their merits. Ps5 has faster loading times, Xbox is the more powerful of the two. But in reality, games will look and play near identically on both consoles. There won't be as big of a divide as there was between the PS4 and Xbox One.

I think the PS5 won't have any load times because the SSD (it's an M.2) is so fast it removes load times and transisions are instant and you won;t see any loading.
The Series X will have a standard load time so that could be anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 seconds.

thumbs up!
I don;t really care either as I will be getting both console eventually.
We'll see, neither will beat PC's anyway wink

I used to be anti Microsoft after the whole Win95 and beyond debacle, but then I grew up and didn't care anymore. Some people prefer Windows for the things they do and others use those god awful garbage things that Apple throws out, but if that works for them then why should i be mad about that or care? If it works for you then great.

Neither will beat Nintendo, as far as I'm concerned 😂.

I don't know enough about, nor do I care enough about Apple's/Microsoft's business practices for it to matter to me. I just go with whatever is easiest for me to use.
