Any decent horror movies on Netflix instant watch?

I like the abundance of horror films here. But been disappointed with almost every one I watch...

Anything you guys recommend?

That's the reason I cancelled my Netflix years ago. Lots of Horror movies. Probably less than 1% were even remotely scary or well done. The same with Prime even though their choices have improved ever so slightly over the years.

The writers seem to be churning out those scripts superfast. Like soap operas.

Have you seen The Autopsy Of Jane Doe? I thought i was pretty good. What about Apostle? That one was kind of a trip. And Freaks was interesting. It's more Sci-Fi though(but worth watching). Oh, what about Terrifier ? It's kind of low budget but it's wild. Besides Pennywise, it had the creepiest clown I've ever seen.

Let's see what else? Veronica, the Golem, Errementari, The Ritual. Those were OK.

IDK, it seems like the horror movie pickings are slimmer now than the last time i had Netflix. I do agree with what both you and Kitbradley previously said.

Anyways, I'm a multi decades horror movie buff and probably the majority of the horror movies of today don't have anything on the ones from the past. I miss non CGI horror. Special effects like what people like Tom Savini used to do. Those movies had the creep factor.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Thanks for the recommendations! smile

I have seen Autopsy of Jane Doe. Yeah, I thought that was really good. Haven't seen the others. I'll check them out.

I think I started Veronica at one point, but didn't see it because I thought another "Ouija board" movie.

There were a couple of horror serials on there I really liked... one's called "Marianne"... it was only one season and they're not continuing it anymore. The other one was Requiem.

"The Wicker Man" The original one. If you've never seen it it is one of the most original and haunting horror movies ever. It's been described as "The Citizen Kane of horror movies." Watch it now before it leaves the Netflix rotation.

Thanks! Just watched Wicker Man on netflix for the first time! I agree, really good.

Also watched Apostle. Very similar theme. Clearly influenced by Wicker Man. I kind of liked it, but I thought the way the Quinn character goes batshit crazy at the end didn't make sense to me. It felt very artificial to me.

EDIT:

BTW, Rosemary's Baby is on Netflix instant watch if any of you want to watch. I think it's definitely one of the best horror films ever. But I only watched it once because it completely drained me. It has similar themes as Wicker Man.

One more. Have you seen "The Evil Dead?" The orignal one? I forgot that's on the Netflix cue. If you haven't it's definitely worth a view; the debut feature from Sam Raimi. Netflix has been putting in some decent horror lately; one of the best movies ever, "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" recently left their queue.

Ah, yeah I've seen it. It's awesome. I might watch it again on Netflix now.

As I remember the first one was slightly serious before Evil Dead 2 turned full horror-comedy.

EDIT: Ok. Watched it on Netflix again. What a wild, fun movie! I forgot how over the top it was. It was already pretty funny... but I remember Evil Dead 2 pushes the comedy even further.

Yes it was. That movie stayed with me for a few days. For a number of years now I've been more into Science Fiction than horror. As far as horror, I'm more into supernatural horror. I'm seriously burned out on slasher and zombie movies.

A pretty good Netflix TV show is Diablero. It's horror comedy(funny but witty). It has some good scares though. I also thought that ASH vs Evil Dead was good. Especially the first two seasons. What about Drag Me To Hell? I liked that one. It was directed by Sam Rami.

I know you've probably seen 1408, and Jeepers Creepers...

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Yeah, I love it when I start a movie without knowing anything and it surprises me. That's what Freaks did for me. Glad I didn't watch any trailers. Had a similar feeling when I saw the Matrix for the first time.

I saw the first 2 seasons of Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but I didn't watch the 3rd. I think I was pissed off the show was cancelled and didn't bother to finish.

I kind of liked Drag me to Hell, but I really felt bad for the protagonist. I didn't think she deserved any of that. She was just doing her job at the bank and got screwed completely.

Yep I've seen 1408 and Jeepers Creepers. Haven't seen Diablero. I'll check it out.

BTW, the Ring is on netflix instant watch. I really liked it. I prefer the original Japanese version Ringu. In terms of J-horror, I do like the first Ju-on Grudge films... The non-linear sequence of events makes those films slightly better than the standard J-horror stuff imo. But at some point, the formula became stale... you encounter the house, you die and that's that...

BTW Ju-On (aka Grudge) Origins is listed on Netflix as an upcoming series. I kind of have mixed feelings about it. They've got to do something new with it.

I absolutely LOVED "Diablero".

Are you familiar with the Dresden Files book series by Jim Butcher? It reminds me of the books a bit.

I hope they make a new season!

Yes! Diablero is another one of those shows/movies that stays with a person. The story/character development was good, the scares were good, the cinematography was nice etc. It's definitely one of the better shows on Netflix. Also, there was this horror movie i saw...i think on Netflix...that was filmed in Mexico. i forgot the name of it, but it had the guy from the Saw movies(Tobin Bell) in it. He plays this defrocked Priest that's fighting evil. it was a pretty good move.

As far as the Dresden Files book series, i haven't read them. There was a TV show though, right? i think I've seen some of the episodes.

Anyways, besides Korean and Japanese horror, some of the best comes out of Mexico.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

thumbs up!

The Dresden Files is amazing. If you enjoyed Diablero, you WILL LOVE the Dresden Files.
The tv show was crap. They changes key elements of the main characters. Most fans of the books aren't fans of the show. If you like reading, pick up the first book and see if you get hooked!

You have to hang in there with the Netflix horror film updates. They seem to come a dime a dozen and suck rocks but I've also seen some very good ones there. I don't know about Instant Access service, but I'll have to check my viewing history and see if I can dredge up some of them. I don't much get into slashers. As mentioned earlier, The Autopsy of Jane Doe was great. I thought Errementari was interesting. Have you seen Pontypool? I thought that one was pretty great!
