R3COMM3ND som3 GooD Books 2 R3AD

Hello y'all.

Looking for good book recommendations.

I'm in the process of reading Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. Fascinating so far. He wrote one of my favorite books in the last 10 years: Kafka on the Shore.

This one has a similar vibe to it.

Another interesting book I read recently was "The Book of M" by Peng Sheppard. The third act is a bit of a mess, but still a good read, especially for a freshman book.

I highly recommend the Neapolitan series by Elena Ferrante. Fantistck series! I loved all 4 books. Also, The Mirror and the Light by Hillary Mantel, wonderful third book in the trilogy about Henry viii and Cromwell. I also thoroughly enjoyed American Dirt by Jeannine Cummings. I couldn't put this one down.

I've been on a tear reading three authors: Toni Morrison (right now, "A Mercy"); Colson Whitehead (just finished "Apex Hides the Hurt"); and John Edgar Wideman (recently finished "Fanon"). I've enjoyed going to the library, knowing exactly where to find each author's books and selecting one from each. They are all excellent, so I can't go wrong, whatever I pick.

I noticed the bookcase in the photo you posted and it had at least 4 other books by Murakami (only know that because looked him up in wikipedia and saw the list of titles). I've never read anything by him.

The most recent Japanese author I've read is Hiro Arikawa's "The Travelling Cat Chronicles", which is beautiful.

On deck: "The Captain and the Glory" by Dave Eggers, described as 'an entertainment' at 114 pages. A friend recommended it... a satire of our political predicament of the moment.

  1. recently i enjoyed "becoming supernatural" by joe dispenza -- best xplanation of quantum theory i've read yet -- also it made me think that prince was aware of this guy or maybe just tuned into a similar wavelength, e.g. with the hypnotic background of the piano and a microphone shows, third eye, etc.

I just read My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell. Wow! I couldn't put this book down. I found it terribly disturbing and quite sad in many ways, but I was glued to it even though it made me feel sick to my stomach more than once.
