I had trouble staying awake watching Superman Returns....no action at all. Man of Steel was the Superman movie I waited years for....no corny stupid magic tricks, rescuing cats from trees or spinning the earth backwards, just Kal-El going toe-to-toe with worthy opponents. His battle against Faora & Nam-Ek was almost as great as the warehouse scene in BvS.

I like Batman: The Movie (Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!), Superman 1-3, Batman, Batman Returns, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, & Shazam!

I've never seen Supergirl (1984), Man Of Steel, Batman vs Superman, The Dark Knight. I'm not really into dark superheroes, especially not a dark Superman, so have not much interest in seeing that. I used to watch Superfriends, the 1970s Wonder Woman, the 50s George Reeves Superman, Plastic Man Comedy Show, Underdog, Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends (the only Marvel I was familiar with), and Super Grover. razz . My favorite comic book is Captain Carrot. It's the only one I kept up with until it was cancelled. So that's more my style. Most of the comic books I had as a kid weren't superheroes at all. They were stuff like Looney Tunes, Mickey Mouse & Friends, and Richie Rich. I still got 'em. Plus whatever was in the Sunday newspaper funny pages (Peanuts, Blondie, Hagar The Horrible, Family Circus, Spider-Man, The Phantom, Beetle Bailey, etc.). Didn't read the soap opera ones like Apartment 3G or the ones I didn't understand like Prince Valiant.

Wow, such an underated movie. Wish they made more movies with Brandon Routh, and Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luthor.

Man of Steel was ok but it was also kind of boring. And why is Superman depressed all the time. You're Superman for fuck sake, cheer up! And the big CGI-fest at the end is the worst kind of action scene for me. The last 40 minutes is basically a cartoon. The movie had it's moments. I liked getting a better look at Krypton and Michael Shannon was a decent Zod. Nowhere near Terrence Stamp's level but that's to be expected.

Wonder Woman is the best if the recent DC movies. Perfectly cast. Gal Gadot is to Wonder Woman what Christopher Reeve is to Superman. Great origin story to introduce her to the general movie-going public too. Again, as is typical for a modern DC movie, it devolves into bullshit for the final 30 minutes but everything up to that point was great.

I also really enjoyed Aquaman. It wasn't really like a superhero movie. It was more like a throwback to 80s action movies only the heroes and villains have super powers. It was silly. But I liked that it didn't take itself too seriously.

Yeah Superman Returns was the perfect Superman 3. The movie itself was very good but Brandon Routh was excellent as Superman. He definitely deserved another movie. Same goes for Kevin Spacey. Fantastic actor and on top form as Lex Luthor.

Superman Returns could have better had they given Kal-El a worthy opponent instead of the same boring-ass Lex Luthor. How about someone different for a change, like Brainiac, Metallo, Parasite or Mongol? I want to see heroes whipping ass and taking names.

For me, Man of Steel made Superman cool instead of corny. I wish they'd bring back Faora in a future film.

Stamp's Zod was good for its time, but I prefer Shannon's malevolent take on the character.

I think for the first film featuring Bradon Routh I'm ok with Lex Luthor as the Villian, especially since Kevin Spacey did a real good good job in the role (not like the fake Luthor in the horrible Justice League movie) . Yeah for the next movies I would love to have the villians you mentioned (especially Mongul). Would love to see Dark Seid as well.

yeahthat I think his casting as fake Luthor also lead to the failure of anymore Justice League movies (maybe that is a good thing if he was to continue being fake Luthor) I hate when Studios/Agents choose their actors to play roles in movies in which they don't match the part.

The Dark Knight comics came out in the 1980s though. It's probably less likely Bat-Mite or even Robin would have been created if that was the original version of Batman. razz I didn't get the weird voice in the Batman movies from a few years ago. It's like Batman was the lead singer for a death metal band. lol I saw the 1st one and the 3rd one. I didn't like the Batmobile either. Looked like an army tank or something. Awhile back I read that they were going to make a Plastic-Man movie. I don't know if that's still a thing or not. Plastic-Man is definitely something that should not be dark. I also heard that there is going to be a New Gods movie by Ava DuVernay. I don't know anything about New Gods. I never heard of them or Suicide Squad either before their movie came out. I haven't seen SS though. I guess as far as dark goes, I did like those Sin City movies, but I have never read the comics. That wasn't really superheroes though.

The fight scenes in Superman 2 don't measure up to MoS, especially the three-way battle with Faora & Nam-Ek. I could watch that over & over. Too many silly magic tricks in S2 (like in S1). But S1 & S2 were classics compared to the abominations that followed.

The one thing DC has over Marvel is the darkness of their films, but Marvel did an excellent job of setting up their EU (except for screwing up the Hulk). WB has fucked things up so bad, I doubt it can be fixed.

What are the magic tricks
You are talking about besides Superman turning back time and throwing the S from his suit, which felt more like a Batman move. Well special effects has come along way since Superman 2 but I still think they did a good job and I still find it an exciting scene.

You've had a bad run recently. Ben Affleck could have been the best portrayal of you since Kevin Conroy but Warner Bros fucked that up.

Personally, I don't think there should be any more Batman movies. They should do a live action TV series instead. And I'm not talking about the kind of low budget shows like Arrow and Supergirl. A big budget show along the lines of The Mandalorian or the upcoming MCU shows. Cast Oscar Isaac as Batman and get Paul Dini on as writer/showrunner.

I was today years old when I learned that arrow and supergirl are low budget. Even they look better than the stuff they produce in Germany lol

It's not that bad. Super Girl flying looks pretty good. Arrow doesn't really rely on a lot of CGI.

I loved the fight scenes in MoS better than any Marvel movie (except for The Incredible Hulk when he fights the Abomination). Kal-El vs Zod was epic. And I laugh at the critics who say there was too much destruction. When two godlike beings go at it, shit gets fucked up. Happens in the comics all the time.

Saw this quote about MoS at Youtube, and the author is right on;

"Historically superman's primary rule has been to never kill. There was always a way for him to win without killing. That's part of why this movie is great. Take Superman's most fundamental moral rule and truly put it to the test, make him choose between killing Zod, or allowing Zod to murder innocent people right in front of him. One choice or the other, no dues ex machina, no convenient last-second plot device, nothing. Kill or let people die. It's on you, Superman, you don't get the luxury of such a pure morality in this world. And Cavill expresses the struggle perfectly. The emotional pain, and then killing Zod as quickly and painlessly as possible because it is the last thing Superman wants to ever do."

At least there's one thing we all agree on - Nicholas Cage as Superman would have been the biggest disaster since the Hindenberg.

I liked MOS at the time, but once Superman v. Batman came out it was clear that was the wrong direction to take the character because he was basically the same dude as Batman with that take. They need to be polar opposites for both dynamics to work in tandem.
