The Witcher. As a huge fan of the books this series is based on, I was sceptical about pretty much everything about the show prior to release. I felt they got pretty much every casting decision wrong and that they would lean in to the videogames too much rather than adapting the books. Well, I was wrong. Mostly. I'm still not particularly pleased with some casting decisions but Henry Cavill's Geralt is great. Better than I could have hoped for. The actress who plays Yennifer is also pretty good and Jaskier (AKA Dandelion) is exactly how I pictured him from the books. Casting decisions aside, the show itself is really good. However, for people not already familiar with the world of The Witcher, it may be hard to follow at first. They throw around character names and terms like you should already know them. Which, for the uninitiated, you won't. My husband for example. He felt like he missed a lot by not knowing who certain people were or about their histories (and their futures). That's not to say that you won't enjoy it, you'll just not understand why some things happen and the way the show cuts back and forth through time, sometimes by decades, may throw you off a bit. Overall though, what they've done with The Witcher is nothing short of brilliant. It's available now on Netflix and I'd thoroughly recommend it. However, I'd also advise you to at least read the first book in the series, The Last Wish, as it will fill in a few of the blanks. 5/5

Dracula (Netflix) 3.5/5. I'm a sucker for a decent vampire story (ew, no pun intended) and I really enjoyed this even to the sappy eye rolling ending. I love it took the concept of the vampire back to the original Stoker style. It definitely isn't romanticizing becoming a vampire, in fact being a vampire in this world is worse than being dead. Dracula is a monster, a highly aristocratic stylish character but pure wonderful monster. The Van Helsing character is fabulous, modern and refreshing on many levels. And the twist totally took me by surprise and I loved it. It could have been fleshed out more in the 3rd final episode. Compared to the 1st 2 it was very simplistic but still I found gems and loved the take on this old redone. It's very slow paced more storytelling and character arcing than action driven, A bit gory but I wouldn't say gross. [Edited 1/5/20 18:46pm] Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Neither of us have read the books but I’ve played TW3 on PS4 so I’m not coming at it totally cold. It’s quite good so far, and I’m persevering in the expectation that I’ll end up really liking it as it develops. It's essentially an adaptation of the first book in the series, The Last Wish with some changes. I'd recommend the book anyway because it's really good and gives a lot of background on the characters you've seen in the game. In terms of setting, the book, and indeed the show, are set years before the games. I suppose you could think of the show as a prequel to The Wild Hunt.

Succession - Season 1. The only tv shows I have truly binged watched (my definition is to typically watch more than 1 and at times several episodes in one sitting) are Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and now Succession. It got more intriging with each euisdoe, like those other series. The acting is uniformly excellent. 5 stars out of 5. (Note: the 2nd season suposed to be even better)

Avenue 5-- 2.5/5. A bunch of stuff wasn't funny at all. Laurie's accent bleeds thru so the whole he's not American joke fell flat. The host guy is unnecessary and his lines are just dumb. The pic n' save old jack black like character needs a new wig and he's not funny. And that other lady's hair, wtf, looks like something outta some kid's book. Giving 1 or 2 more episodes to see if it improves. Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I watched Season two, and I also give it my highest rating! The last scene is priceless. This was so addicting I literally feel that I am going through withdrawals after watching both seasons in a short period. A few unexpected things: 1. The characters are certainly unlikeable but still you somehow feel increasingly drawn to them as the series proceeds. I found myself have a couple of rooting interests in who was going to take over the family business. 2. There are some incredible comedic scenes amidst the darkness. The humor certainly adds greatly to the entertainment value of the series. 3. The "after the show" commentary that the premium networks often do is the worst I have seen for an excellent series. I stopped watching after 4 of them because they seemed so worthless. They gave no extra insight into the episodes.

It's funny from what Ive seen Jeremy talks like Kendall its so weird watching him in interviews. I get a kick out of all the characters. Will never forget " boar on the floor" that was insane Time keeps on slipping into the future...

Yes, the boar on the floor scene was unbelievable. Both horrific and painfully funny at the same time.

The Outsider 3/5 is currently holding my attention though I'm not in to horror but it's Stephen King which is more off kilter paranormal stuff than anything else but I haven't read the book so it's all new. Will stick with Avenue 5, it played into my morbid sense of humor with the orbiting caskets. Definitely not the Orville let alone anything near Star Trek even though it got a nod. For some reason, I woke up at 3:30 AM the other night and just could not go back to sleep. So I went into the other room, checked the guide, and figured the best thing on at 4:10 AM was "NCIS - New Orleans". Now - I could have been right. NCIS - NO might have been the best thing on a 4:10 AM. If so, my advice is - don't watch TV at 4:10 AM.

Finished The Mandalorian the other night. Probably my favourite "Star Wars thing" ever. Well written (unlike the movies), well acted (unlike the movies) great special effects (unlike everything bar the last 3 movies) and genuinely exciting (unlike about half the movies). The whole show was a highlight to be honest but if I had to choose just one thing about it that stood apart it would be that scene in the final episode where the two Stormtrooper guys are arguing about trying look at the baby Yoda. Then they decide to do some target practice. And miss with every shot. Just like every other stormtrooper in the the Star Wars universe. Unlike a lot of the "comedy" in the movies, it was a genuinely funny scene that didn't detract from the story being told elsewhere on the show. That last episode was directed by Taika Waititi, who is rumoured to be directing a new Star Wars movie after he's done with Thor 4 and the live action Akira remake. Given his history, he's exactly the kind of filmmaker who should get a run at making a Star Wars movie. But that's a topic for another thread. For now, I'll stick to talking about The Mandalorian and I'll give it a 5/5. It's a Star Wars show with Nick Nolte, Werner Herzog and Apollo Creed. How could it not be 5/5?
