Don't watch award shows....I have better things to do with my time than watching a bunch of hollywood phonies congratulating themselves.

And that's exactly why I watched, to see Ricky roast them. He said "accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God, and fuck off" I also liked Ellen Degeneres's speech.

I watched his monologue. Funny but also very true. I particularly liked the line "it's been a good year for paedophile movies. Surviving R Kelly, Leaving Neverland....and Two Popes." Like I said, funny but also true.

Neither do I. But there's this thing called YouTube that lets you watch only the parts you want to see.

Ricky Gervais agrees with you and essentially said the same thing in his monologue.

He does that every time he hosts. It's old hat.

Are fans of his 2020 monologue just finding this out?

Yeah, so do Chappelle, Burr, South Park, etc... but that doesn't stops some from trying to label them as "right". wink

At the very least, they'll say people that like or agree with what he said must be "conservatives".
Truth is, people on all sides of politics like it.

I don't think Gervais was particularly funny. It was true of course, but, what I found "funny" was the reactions from the celebrities.

It didn't stop any of them from saying what they wanted during their time on the stage.

Michele Williams knocked it out of the park.

It was very funny - but, ultimately, he's sharing the same bill and getting paid out of the same pot. (Plus, anyone who's ever seen Ricky on talk shows knows he's wretch-inducingly obsequious about Hollywood slebs.) To take it as a serious critique is like thinking that Joaquin Phoenix is sticking it to the Batman franchise when he takes on his role as The Joker.

Oh, and about the OP? I don't really care for Ricky G, so no, i didn't watch the Golden Globes. I'm not really into awards shows. And honestly, i think the last awards show i watched in full is when Prince was on the American Music Awards. When he sang Purple Rain. eek I was locked up in a Juvenile Facility and they let us stay up late to watch Prince sing. They were so kind to do that... neutral smile

Me too. I think I would only watch award shows if I knew Prince would be on it. I think the only interesting award show would be the Saturn awards. But with Prince gone music award shows are horrible because "music" from new "artist" of the past 25 years suck.

I don't watch any awards shows anymore for the exact same reason. There are no celebs or musicians I care about that much to watch. Not saying I won't watch a show if say Lenny Kravitz, Santana or Bob Dylan are on, but really I could care less as I know I won't be seeing Prince anymore. sad
