Darth Binks was a dark lord of the Sith. So powerful and so wise .....

But really are you thinking I'm supposed to be embarrassed?

Are you familiar with Ewoks?

I LOVE Jar Jar. BTW, George Lucas said it was his favorite character in all of Star Wars.

But what I really don't think is cool is people like yourself who have to follow a certain protocol when it comes to Star Wars Prequels; I think the zombification started with the losers at Red Letter Media; then all then all "cool" kids had to mock everything about them.

George Lucas is an artist and its all his vision.

You really think the Disney garbage has interesting ideas? How about any ideas?

I'll take Jar Jar and Darth Maul and a real story and real ideas any day of the week.

Where did I say that about Star Wars?????????

Well since you only had ???????? I guess I interpreted your response wrongly.

The Bad - I hate Jar Jar binks and he ruined the movie. The pod race went on way to long, obvious they were making a video game. The good - Darth Maul is awesome in the movie. Also Ewan Mcgregor and Liam Neeson were great in their roles

You know, it's so good that, as designed, you never have to watch another one.

for me personally, now after the conclusion of the saga, I decided to remove all other 8 movies from my personal canon

sure I will watch them again occasionally, but I will look at them as extended Legends or something like that. Darth Vader is Lukes father? Force ghosts? Levitation? nice mind games, but nothing more

I don't think Jar Jar was all that bad. The stepping in shit thing was absolutely retarded (Writing). The side trek that conveniently takes them "inconveniently" through the center of the planet? (bad writing) the Buster Keaton like comedic bit where Jar Jar inadvertently helps destroy those useless droids that never shot anyone? (bad writing, isolated cgi realm = bad writing)

What really bugged me the most (aside from the kid being annoying. "Yipee!") was that absolutely MORONIC SPORTS CASTER talking heads guy... looked like a childrens morning show joke. Poorly animated, poorly designed, absolutely shockingly STUPID decision to have him speaking English when nearly all the other participants in the activity were not human English speakers.

Should've been a miserable looking oaf or maybe a guy with a bad combover harking back to 70's tv Howard Cosell (in look only) and he should've been speaking some made up gibberish that would have immediately changed the tone of the race and actually made it seem perilous! (even though you know this is the kid that will become Darth Vader and he won't die) If they creepened it up 40% you might have had a perilous dangerous chase scene. Instead you got that cheese fest ruining even the best animated section of the film.

Would've been great if the announcer was eating small bugs/creatures from a pot just like Jabba.

the pod race is where I stop the damn thing every time I TRY (its only happened 3 times in ...20 years? to watch the fucking movie again... I might skip chapters to the last bits only to confirm that Darth Maul had the high ground AND a DOUBLE LIGHTSABER.. instead... he watches Kenobi fly over him (he could've twirled his baton) and gets sliced in half down to a conveniently placed core.

Makes me wonder if Disney will revisit ROTJ and add an Emperor shot at the end... grabbing his legs in a crevice .... saying YESSSSSS!!!!!! (ala Vader's NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!)

I blame the people who made the CGI Jar Jar Binks. They were just having fun on their computer, they felt like every scene Jar Jar had to do something "funny". I listen to some of the comentary and there was a scene in which Jar Jar was just standing there and they said it was so hard for them not to have Jar Jar doing something. For the pod race I think there are even more deleted scenes. Also let's not forget when Anakin "accidently" gets in the fighter and joins the battle, oh god who wrote that? But the light saber fight with Darth Maul might be the best Light Saber fight in ALL of the movies.

but that was not an intentional hint or build up, since the original movie was planned as a single standalone flic. and until today the only movie of the bunch that can be watched without the need of other films or a greater context. that makes it still standout today. and certainly the movie for new generations and kids as the pick for the first SW movie to watch

so those hints were not really hints. but of course the writers had to build up on something and on a story that was basically finished.

and also in follow up movies there is always the need to add new things to keep the audience excited, I understand that.

the down side, it renders some stuff from older movies illogical.

why didn't Vader and Obi use levitation powers to throw things at each other in their duel? or Vader and the Emporer not commuincate with 3D-Force-Skype like Rey&Kylo but a fuzzy hologram instead? why not bring people back to life in the past? heal wounds? as a small easter egg yes, I liked it too, like the C3PO+R2D2 hyroglyphes in Indiana Jones or R2D2 in Close Encounters of the 3rd kind

but as canon it would make no sense whatsoever. it means the SW universe is the same as ours yet in ET Yoda is used as a halloween costume and SW is shown in the cinema

so let's just say they are ET-like aliens, just like Luke and Han are human-like aliens, but not actually humans coming from earth

oh god mabe I'm taking all of this way too serious LOL

That's right. Imagine a world where opinions can change over time. I could compile that list again in a few weeks and it would probably be slightly different again. For the record, I just watched all the movies again in chronological order just before seeing Episode 9. There were some I liked more than I remembered and some I didn't like at all.

It's kind of weird that you went through the trouble of looking that up though 😂

oh I'm not complaining, you can change your opinion whenever you like. me too, and maybe one day I will see TROS as the masterpiece it truly is

and since I didn't remember what you said back then, I also did not search for this. I just went to see some old SW threads (maybe to reconsider views and opinions, and who knows, maybe to adapt and change them at some point?) and then I simply stumbled over this post. not more not less

IIRC, Lucas had mapped out the saga before and after ANH. I think he laid a little groundwork to build on some of the concepts -- including Vader's identity -- in ANH but he knew he might not have a chance to take them further in subsequent films.

so those hints were not really hints. but of course the writers had to build up on something and on a story that was basically finished.

and also in follow up movies there is always the need to add new things to keep the audience excited, I understand that.

Lucas negotiated sequel rights prior to ANH, which he wanted to adapt as a serial a la Flash Gordon. He didn't have all of the ideas fleshed out at that time, but he did envision multiple movies.

why didn't Vader and Obi use levitation powers to throw things at each other in their duel?

Because Lucas didn't have the budget for all that.

or Vader and the Emporer not commuincate with 3D-Force-Skype like Rey&Kylo but a fuzzy hologram instead?

Because Lucas was watching his cash and Disney prints their own money.

why not bring people back to life in the past?

Good question.

heal wounds?

IMO, was lifted from The Matrix sequels (along with the climactic battle with Grandad).

Holdo maneuver?

I actually liked that reference.

and of course back then I loved the twist of Vader as Lukes father, cause it came totally out of nowhere. and back then I didn't think about the problems it created (hiding a Skywalker from a Skywalker using the real name Skywalker on the homeplanet of Skywalker... Duh!)

Agree that the Episode V twist makes the entire saga go, but left some obvious plot holes with hiding a Skywalker on Tatooine with Anakin's stepbrother.

In fact, watched 4,5 and 6, essentially, you'll have seen 7,8 and 9 as well. There's very little originality.

2. Revenge of the Sith (underrated)

3. New Hope

4. Return of Jedi

5. Force Awakens

6. Rise of Skywalker

7. Clone Wars (very underrated)

8. Rogue One

9. Solo

10. Last Jedi (overrated)

11. Phantom Menace (horrific)

Lack of technology to have them do that stuff.
.
3D force skype, like Rey and Kylo? because that isn't real as far as the force is concerned. They took it even further and were able to almost interact. They could do that with no side affects. But Luke and Leia do something similar and it kills them.

.

Vader and the Emporer using the hologram. There other Force users in the Empire and (universe) don't want anyone 'overhearing' or sensing.

.
In the novels Luke and other Jedi used the Force to heal. Also Ben used the force to bring Luke back to consciousness after being attacked by the Tuskin Raiders.

.

Darth Vader also tried using the Force to heal, but it required him opening up to places he didn't like revisiting. In the Legends novels, Luke had many Jedi Healers.

.

Tatooine was outside of the Empires zone, and Darth Vader refused to ever set foot on that planet again. (there was also a Jedi watching over Leia on Alderraan.

I actually like Phantom Menace, leave out Jar Jar and it's a really good movie

I enjoy Clone Wars too. Getting to see more Jedi in action, and more of the planet Coruscant.

3 Revenge of the Sith I think is better than both of them together.

I read the novels. The novels are better.

In "Dark Lord - The Rise of Darth Vader", Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan Tatooine is the source of all of Vader's pain. He'll never set foot there for fear of re-awakening Anakin.

Right.

There was a comic that came out, prior to Revenge of the Sith that had Vader confront Jabba the Hutt. But I think it's taken as an 'alternate' story.

"Qui-Gon!" he said. "Master!" Realizing that the locals were quickly going to brand him a madman if they heard him talking to himself, he ducked into the narrow alley between two stores. "Master, is Darth Vader Anakin?" he asked after a moment.

Yes. Although the Anakin you and I knew is imprisoned by the dark side.

"I was wrong to leave him on Mustafar. I should have made sure he was dead."

The Force will determine Anakin's future. Obi-Wan: Luke must not be told that Vader is his father until the time is right. "Should I take further steps to hide Luke?"

The core of Anakin that resides in Vader grasps that Tatooine is the source of nearly everything that causes him pain. Vader will never set foot on Tatooine, if only out of fear of reawakening Anakin.

Obi-Wan exhaled in relief. "Then my obligation is unchanged. But from what Yoda told me, I know that I have much to learn, Master."

You were always that way, Obi-Wan.
