Dog Survives Being Hit By Car, Shot...

It's extremely sad when I think about the torturous pain this dog was in. A car, a gun, and a freezer couldn't kill this canine. AMAZING. Just when you think you've heard it all...

CLEARLAKE – A dog named Dosha may have as many lives as a cat.

She was hit by a car, shot in the head and kept in a freezer for two hours, but she survived and is now doing well under a veterinarian's care.

Local animal groups and the Humane Society of the United States have begun fund-raising efforts to pay for her care.

Last Tuesday, Dosha was hit by a car. A Clearlake police officer reported to the scene and no one could tell him who owned the dog.

Officer Bob MacDonald shot the dog, apparently to save her the pain of her injuries. Dosha, presumed dead, was taken to Animal Control, where she was put in a freezer.

About two hours later, Denise Johnson, Animal Control's interim director, was at the impound facility and was told of the incident.

"Apparently, it was assumed dead," Johnson said. "I went to the freezer and found that she was alive and cold."

She had hypothermia and a gunshot wound, but no broken bones from the car accident, Johnson said.

I'm glad the dog's okay. That sucks. Why couldn't the cop just call someone from Animal Control to pick it up? I know he was trying to be merciful but it still didn't seem necessary.

Being cruel to animals just gets to me. It's bad enough we're cruel to each other. sad

The only real injury she sustained was the gun shot wound..how Ironic considering the policeman was trying to save her from further pain.

That stupid fucking pig. I don't understand why he shot the dog. I mean I understand the apparent logistics but not much else. Somebody should have picked up a gun and shot him instead.

I love how they say the reason he shot the dog was " apparently to save her the pain of her injuries."

I don't understand it either. Just because the owner isn't right there at the scene shouldn't preclude the cop from getting the dog some help. Since there were no broken bones it SEEMS that he would have been given a visual clue that she wasn't that bad off enough to be put out of any misery. Sounds like an itchy trigger finger to me. shrug

Where is Clearlake, anyhow?

And these animal groups + Humane Society should also be pushing to get this cop investigated for this shit. You would think PETA would be the first ones all over this like flies on poo...

Clearlake is somewhere in California. I don't know exactly where though. The story came from the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper.

That cop should be put on foot patrol in the dog pound picking up dog shit with his bare hands...

He should have his gun permit stripped away... imagine, shooting a dog at point blank range, and not killing it. disbelief

In reality, I think he's an unstable cop... poor decision making abilities... probably shot a man in NY 41 times for reaching for his wallet... confused
