FaceTime will be the death of our civilization (or at least of me) I have an important point for any and all that use FaceTime to conduct interpersonal contacts in public:
NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR DAMN CONVERSATION!
Seriously - WTF? What kind of selfish moron thinks an entire restaurant, or store, or any public gathering wants to hear them talk to some other moron at maximum speaker volume?
YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS!
I swear, this will kill me. I already had to shush one guy in the restaurant this morning. At least he didn't try to start a fight but he was in his 40's or 50's, so at least at one point in his life he had been exposed to manners. That had to be why he apologized and went off-speaker.
Conducting a call in public on FaceTime is the height of rudeness. Don't try to dispute that, you'll only look bad. The question before this body is:
How should we handle rude and selfish morons who use FaceTime in small public spaces like restaurants, etc?
1. Shush them 2. Walk over and ask them to get off their speaker 3. Sit down next to them and join in the conversation 4. Sit down next to them and play "Endorphinmachine" at maximum volume 5. Complain to management
Notice that "Ignore them" is NOT an option. What are we, a country of snowflakes? Since when did it become acceptable to let one or two rude and selfish morons ruin the public space for everyone else? Not in my America! (NOTE: This attitude may get me killed and if it does, I leave my Prince collection to my kids.)
We banished the air-fouling and death-causing smokers to their own playpens. It's high time we did the same thing for those who pollute our living spaces with endless, grammatically-incorrect exchanges about how Delbert or Louise didn't check the oil in the car and now it's making a noise.
So I guess this is the perfect time to announce my candidacy for Emperor. If selected as your Emperor, I will make FaceTime in public illegal and violation of this decree shall result in a punishment of not less that four hours of watching ice hockey or "Property Brothers", whichever is deemed to be more boring.
But seriously - don't hold FaceTime conversations where others are present. It's rude. |

I've been told by these people they can do whatever they want and that this is my problem.
With that I start talking really loud myself in a nonsense-made-up language within their ear shot/facetime/conference call or whatever they think I need to listen to.
Or I put my noise cancelling headphones in...just depends if I feel like confronting a stranger that day.
The older I get, the less I care about people who are this oblivious to the world around them.
You'd still get my vote for Emperor |

For this very reason, I think long and hard about going to public places.
There has been a marked coarsening of behavior. |

Good idea Rodeo. No one has used FT in public around me so I haven't had the opportunity to tell them off. However, I work in the restaurant industry and I see people sit right next to other people who are trying to enjoy a meal while they blast Snapchat or YouTube on their device. If I was sitting next to them you better believe I would tell him to turn down the volume. You might have a right to look at your cell phone in public but you don't have a right to bother other people with it |
