Mental Health (Discuss)

It is okay to reach out

It is okay to feel the way you do

It is okay to get counselling or see a psychiatrist

It is okay to speak up and let others know how you feel or going through

My mom passed away in July. The hospice she was staying at offers grief counseling once a month, think I will go in November.

OooooooooooooooooooK...

johari-model.jpg

"The Johari window is a technique that helps people better understand their relationship with themselves and others. It was created by psychologists Joseph Luft (1916–2014) and Harrington Ingham (1916–1995) in 1955, and is used primarily in self-help groups and corporate settings as a heuristic exercise."

i was raised accordin to the johari window programmin...

in order to not be under the rule of others one has to

know about their own selves...

they have a sayin about bein "only sick as yo secrets"

the object of self help is knowin one's self and bein honest

about one's conditions...

hidin the truth about what you hear in yo head leads to

paranoia...

acceptin that you hear the voices and speakin with a

mental health practitioner

(some folks use clergy and collect a more socially acceptable

mental illness and YES havin a socially acceptable mental illness

is just like bein sane... think about it... in the land of idiots

idiots don't feel out of place)

AGAIN:

knowin more about one's self is the best action no matter what

the situation whether the sickness is physical mental or spiritual/emotional...

Sorry for your loss. Yes you should go. No matter how old your parents are you will never get over it. I had both of my parents dealt with health scare over the last year alone and the thought of losing them is scary. I can only imagine.

My condolences on your loss; I lost my father to cancer earlier this year. Getting counseling can help you deal with the loss, especially if your parent had a prolonged illness.

Condolences to all who've lost a loved one recently I know the feeling.

After Prince passed I posted a few things on grief, one in particular I came across I'm not sure if I posted it here but it dealt with grieving a loss for someone who basically disappeared,ie, a military person, or a kidnapping, etc. but also alzheimers patients. At the time I had no clue I'd need it myself but man it has come in handy now.

Hope
“Our mission is to plant ourselves at the gates of hope — not the prudent gates of Optimism, which are somewhat narrower; nor the stalwart, boring gates of Common Sense; nor the strident gates of self-righteousness, which creak on shrill and angry hinges; nor the cheerful, flimsy garden gate of “Everything is gonna be all right,” but a very different, sometimes very lonely place, the place of truth-telling, about your own soul first of all and its condition, the place of resistance and defiance, the piece of ground from which you see the world both as it is and as it could be, as it might be, as it will be; the place from which you glimpse not only struggle, but joy in the struggle — and we stand there, beckoning and calling, telling people what we are seeing, asking people what they see.”

I wish I would have done this but I never did.

Even though I tried to ignore it through many unhealthy behaviors, it was a darkness that I couldn't shake.

It's been almost 10 years since I lost my mom and I'm just now feeling like I can talk about it. It's something that I'll never "get over", it's just something I live with.

I hope counseling helps. Sorry for your loss.
