Getty
Arsenio Hall is taking his talent to Netflix. The comedian announced on social media Tuesday that he’s set “Arsenio Hall: Smart & Classy,” his first ever standup comedy special for the streaming platform.
Here’s the description for the special, which will launch Oct. 29:

Actor, talk show host, producer, and comedy legend Arsenio Hall makes his Netflix comedy special debut with Smart & Classy. Over the course of his illustrious career entertaining audiences around the world, Arsenio reflects on stand-up in today’s political climate, Coming to America, winning “Celebrity Apprentice,” his favorite drug, and more!
Good to see my ALL TIME favorite groundbreaking talk show host Arsenio(whom show I attended several times) making a comeback.

Hard Pass. Never a fan of his stand up. His talk show was cool. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |

I've never seen him do stand-up outside of his monologue on the show. His show had the best sound in late night for bands. But his interview skills were horrible. He just waited to ask the next question. He didn't listen. Oprah gained popularity because she listened, and just made it a conversation. She had talking points, but often never got to them because she just stayed curious about people. Arsenio could learn from that. So many great people sat there, and he just ran the questions. So rarely did he step out of his list of questions, and talk on a talk show. Those moments where he paused and was pseudo-concentrating and saying, "yeah....yeah...." then pop to another question just came across as phony.
All that said, I like him. I always have. I went to a taping of his show back in 1990. It was super fun. But his interview style just lacked.
I'll give his Netflix thing a look-see.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

NO ONE can maintain hosting a talk show for over FIVE YEARS and be phony.. What I said was, "... his interview skills were horrible... Those moments where he paused and was pseudo-concentrating and saying, "yeah....yeah...." then pop to another question just came across as phony."
I never said he was phony. I was clear on this. I said he's a terribly interviewer, and it comes across as insincere and contrived. His reboot didn't last long, either. He's long had that reputation about being a bad interviewer. He's probably better as a comic or an actor, not a TV host.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Speak for yourself. I will ALWAYS support Arsenio! The way he opened up his show for Prince(r.i.p.) I will FOREVER be grateful to him for that. Plus he was responsible for a LOT of new artist beginning success including Mariah Carey & countless others. He's a cool dude. I don't really rate him as a talk show host but I've always liked him. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because he was in one of my favourite comedy movies of all time (Coming To America) as well as co-starring in one my favourite shows when I was a kid (Martial Law). He's always seemed like a cool guy when I see him being interviewed too. I'm not familiar with his stand-up but I hope this special goes well for him. |

Wonder if he put in the work? Guess we'll see.
He's got Coming to America II in the works as well.
Always loved him and at 63 I'm glad to see him hustle.

Coming to America II????? Really??? Why?
Eddie Murphy signed a multi-million dollar contract with Netflix to maybe return to stand-up, not sure if the sequel is part of it.
I heard Eddie mention the movie being in production on Comedians in Cars, mentioned bringing back most of the original cast including James Earl Jones (who had script edits).
"Slated to hit theaters December 18 of next year, the plot follows former Prince Akeem who is set to become King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America – a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father’s dying wish to groom this son as the crowned prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America."

If you watch. Arsenio would ask a question that the guest just answered. He is either the worst interviewer or high on something???! 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |

The problem with Arsenio Hall is that he always burns his bridges after a project. |

Never saw him do stand-up. I loved his talk show in th 80's and 90's because he had a lot of R&B artists as guests who were not being invited to the other late night talk shows. He was the only television outlet they had to expose their music to the general public. But, I do agree his interview skills were not so great, especially compared to some of the hosts we are seeing today. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
