Milo Ventimiglia says he was told he's too old to play 'Batman'

Depending on what Batman he played he would be perfect for the role. Most of those who played him prior look older than he does now

Usually it's women Hollywood rejects for being too old.

Forget to Botox and you're playing someone's grandmother.

Milo Ventimiglia says he got a taste of ageism himself when he admitted that he wanted to play Batman, but producers thought he was too old.

The "This Is Us" star hit the "Morning Mash Up" on SiriusXM to promote his new movie, "The Art Of Racing In The Rain," and instead got into playing superheroes.

"Physical age yes [too old] ... but there's plenty of roles out there," the 42-year-old said, adding, "I like being the attainable superhero. I like Jack Pearson on 'This is Us.' I don't need a cape."

According to Ventimiglia, he asked his agents to seriously look into the possibility of playing the role, saying, "I've always wanted to be Batman."

"And then when there was the opportunity, I kind of shut my mouth for a while and then I said to my reps 'hey can you go ask and inquire and check out that?'And they went 'Milo they say you're too old. And I went 'Oh.' And then a few weeks later I said hey would you mind calling again?" he joked.

He also complimented Robert Pattinson, 33, saying he's looking forward to seeing him in the role.

"As cool as that would have been because every boy wants to be Batman, it's OK. Robert Pattinson's an amazing actor. I'm super excited for him," Ventimiglia said.

For the record, Michael Keaton was 38 when he played Batman in 1989. Val Kilmer was 36 when he played him in 1996. George Clooney played him at 36 in 1997. Christian Bale was 31 in 2005. Ben Affleck was the oldest of all, playing Batman at 44.

he already played it. I suspect they would tell him he was too old too. He's 45

He looks the part and he´s a decent actor. Would´ve loved to see him as the next Batman.

I also liked Ben Affleck´s version of Batman a lot but he had a bit of bad luck as far as screenplay and director are concerned.

To my surprise, Affleck did a great job in Batman vs Superman. The warehouse rescue was the best Batman movie scene ever, imo. Affleck's version is better than Keaton's and equal to Bale's.

Then WB totally ruined his character in Justice League. They tried going the Marvel route and fucked everything up.

Affleck was very passionate about playing Batman and very much in awe of the character before he even started shooting the movie, and I think it shines through. He is a fan and it´s a shame that his chances of playing Batman again have been sabotaged by WB. He definitely had what it takes and exceeded my expectations.

Too bad he´s out.

So they want to cast an actor who is young enough to potentially play Batman across a number of films ... what's wrong with that? Makes sense to me. Not every decision is made for nefarious discriminatory reasons.
