A Change.org petition to change the date of Halloween is gaining traction and closing in on its goal of 75,000 signatures — at which point, it'll be sent to President Donald Trump.

The petition, started last year by the Halloween & Costume Association, has more than 63,000 signatures as of Thursday evening. The trade association is designed to "promote and build the celebration of Halloween in the United States," according to its website.

"It's time for a Safer, Longer, Stress-Free Celebration!" the organization wrote in its petition. "Let's move Halloween to the last Saturday of October!"

Halloween, traditionally celebrated on Oct. 31 each year, falls on a Thursday this year. If the holiday were to take place on the month's final Saturday this year, it would be on Oct. 26.

Most of the reasons listed on the Halloween & Costume Association's petition for the change focus on child safety. The petition cites a few issues like parents not accompanying children who are out trick-or-treating and kids not carrying flashlights.

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit dedicated to the safety of families and children, "Twice as many kids are killed while walking on Halloween than any other day of the year."

Plus, there's the issue of Halloween parties.

"51% Of Millennials say Halloween is their favorite holiday, why cram it into 2 rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day!?!" the HCA wrote.

Halloween originated with the "ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts," according to History.com post detailing the history and evolution of Halloween.

Pope Gregory III in the eighth century designated Nov. 1 as a day to honor all saints and the evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, according to the website.

At first that seemed to make sense but when citing the safety issue, I’d imagine that when it falls on a Saturday, alcohol related injuries are more common than when it’s midweek.

I can't imagine people wanting that Saturday every single year kids ringing their doorbell. I think I'd of loved it when my kids were small because that rushing home from work to get them out was for the birds, still the thought of it always forever being on Saturday can get old fast. Teens and grown folks can still plan their parties on Saturdays anyway. Can't completely stop irresponsible parents from being irresponsible unfortunately.

Halloween / Samhain is a traditional Gaelic festival making the end of autumn and the start of winter and has been for centuries. Its the 31st October for a reason.

These w*nkers wanting to mess with the date purely for their own convenience and the wants of the darling kiddies obviously have no idea of the significance of the date.

Christ, what a world we live in ... if every little thing isn't exactly to your liking, bitch and moan until you get things your own way.

It would certainly make trick or drinking a lot easier. nod

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
