Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) Entertaining adventure with a a lot of heart, a great cast, it was funny with heaps of action and easter eggs to boot. I give this a 4.5 out of 5 popcorn

i'm actually embarrassed to say how many times i went to see spider-verse in the theatres.

i still can barely believe how much i loved it.

Your enthusiasm for the film made some of us that never would have wanted to watch it go and watch it (i.e. me). Thank you for loving it.

Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019) - Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Another very good entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And the live-action interpretation of Mysterio and his powers was well-done. 4/5

indiewire has posted their top 100 films of the decade. why they're posting a list 5 months before the end of the year escapes me, but they have, so here we go. (there's also the issue of when the decade actually ends, but leave that aside - it feels better if we let it end on the 9, doesn't it?)

good & fun list i'd say. some really quirky, esoteric choices - kate plays christine, the arbor, madeline's madeline. the only thing wrong with it is that paddington 2 should be #1!

& there's no florida project or tangerine (tangerine is 57) unless i missed them on my first read through, which slightly shocks me.

sexton will no doubt rub in my face that they have the loneliest planet at 99.

letterboxd tells me i've seen 69 of them.

This list is totally bogus.

No Arnold. No Statham. No "Yesterday". Etc. Etc. Etc.

BUT "MAGIC MIKE XXL"?!? No, I didn't see it but I saw the first "Magic Mike" and it was really, really stupid. And we all know that sequels are never as good as the original, so I am confident that "Magic Mike XXL" was a really, really, REALLY stupid movie. It's science.

Here are the movies on that list that I have seen:

64. Mission Impossible - Fallout Boy (I rated that a NEGATIVE 1 for crying out loud!)
63. Inception
46. Heredity
42. I watched 30 minutes of Zero Dark Thirty, does that count?
21. Get Out
16. The Social Network
11. The Wolf of Wall Street
9. Mad Max: Fury Road

Here are the movies that I have seen from that list that would make my Top 100 Movies of the Decade. Oh, and by the way? The decade ends in 2019.

Get Out
The Wolf of Wall Street

At least these hipsters didn't put "Dunkirk", "I, Tonya" or "While We're Young" on their list.

The art of self defense - star star star star star

A dark comedy that I don't think everyone in the theatre really understood, I think there was only two of us laughing throughout the whole movie. An older couple got up and left about a quarter of the way in, always a good sign.

Immediate cult classic with so many lines that made me laugh, it needs to watched again to catch them all. Did I mention is was a DARK comedy? Some of the things that happen are really messed up but in this universe (in the mid-1990's) nothing is off limits.

My rough count skimming through the list says I've seen 62 of these movies. Including The Loneliest Planet at #99. biggrin

Admittedly, for some I had to read the synopsis or even find my posted review on the org to remind myself that I had seen them.

Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin) was a star on the Hallmark Channel. But they dropped her after her college cheating scandal.

Hallmark's main competitor in the Weepy-Eyed White Girl movie genre is Lifetime.

Lifetime just announced their next movie project - "College Admissions Scandal". The plot?

College Admissions Scandal will follow two wealthy mothers who share an obsession with getting their teenagers into the best possible college. When charismatic college admissions consultant Rick Singer offers a side door into the prestigious institutions of their dreams, they willingly partake with visions of coveted acceptance letters in their heads. But when Singer cooperates with the FBI and pleads guilty, the mothers who risked everything for their kids, must face the consequences of their crimes and the loss of trust and respect from their families.

falloff Heck, even I might have to watch this one!

I've only seen 34 (with at least 30 more in my rental queue) but I thought If Beale St. Could Talk was one glaring omission.

Well I can't see why not. It was quite intriguing.

Honestly given Inception wasn't in the top 10 I assumed it is a bogus list anyway.

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood 6.5/10

Tarantino's lastest is well made, good natured buddy pic that is not going to break any box office records. The main flaws will depend on taste and not on filmmaking skill. I liked it, but don't love it. Some of Tarantino's artistic plot choices i found questionable.

DiCaprio and Pitt are great and very charming together and have great chemistry. DiCaprio's acting is Oscar worthy and im sure he will get a nomination and most likely win.
The movie is long and takes its sweet time getting towards the end, so if you have trouble with long talkie movies, then you may want to wait and see it at home.
Other than that, i think the less you know going in the better.
There is one lighthearted mid credits scene.

.

As to Tarentino and his directing, one thing i noticed is he is so skilled that i never really noticed many overtly fashy or distracting "movie" shots other than when it was explicitly replicating a movie or TV genre of that era for the sake of the story. Which is nice. (There is one stereotypical fancy crane shot that goes up and over a drive-in theatre)

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it's one of tarantino's best. Or worst. I'll let you know on the second viewing. But for now, because I liked Leo's and Brad's performances (I think both will get an Oscar nod) . . .

Well, it's certainly not going to do superhero/sci-fi numbers, but I have a feeling it'll be QT's highest-grossing (even on the adjusted-for-inflation scale). I think it'll do very, very well (especially if it picks up Oscar nods/wins - which - at this point - I believe it will).

its a a career-best opening for Tatrntino, just slightly ahead of the $38 million for INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS in 2009.

I've read some speculate about Burt Reynolds. It's weird to me in why make up history about some things and use real people and events for others. I thought that was unnecessary and possibly exploitive. I find that aspect cringy. Especially since that gimmick was already used in Inglorious Bastards and i wasn't quite on board with it then. Thats among my own problems with it.

.

I better stop thinking about this movie or I'll end up hating it. lol

It could be a composite. Clint came to mind because he was a TV star first, on Rawhide and then did the spaghetti westerns in Italy which really helped his brand, and the rest is history.

It was gratuitous in places, and it even directly pariodied Basterds. . . before actually copying it. But that's Tarantino.

.

I better stop thinking about this movie or I'll end up hating it. lol

I honestly think I'm liking it a little more.

Secret Life of Pets 2 6.5/10

i went to see this with a friend on Sunday evening since I loved the first one.
I didn't like this one as much as the story was meandering all over the place. The little ones in the audience absolutely loved it though.

.

The animation is absolutely bananas-amazing! Even though I was bored all the way through, i was mesmerized by the art involved. I was someone who used to keep up with the art of traditional animation as well as computer animation, but things have gotten so over my head to the point where it's just blurred into magic for me.

.

I am not sure if there is a category for Best Computer Animation for the Oscars, but if there is not, there absolutely needs to be one. Things are getting so good that people need to get awards just for best computer animation, and not the all inclusive Best Animated feature or Special FX. Amazing work being done!
