It was a hoot! My favorite parts are when she speaks about her family, the balloon to the face . The political stuff was funny but it kinda went on and on. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

Wanda(whom I worked on her first starring role on her short lived sitcom on fox years ago) was a hard worker. Plus she had Chip Fields, Kim Fields mother as her coach. Ah, yes... Wonderful Vicks Vapor Rub, which was slathered all over me as a child until I could hardly breathe... I once knew a kid who liked it so much...he ate it!!! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I didn't either. I think every one was trying to live up to the original actors and that stress made them seem flat. I thought the Jefferson's cast did better though. It's impossible to do better than the original Edith, Archie, and George! Wanda as Florence in a real reboot would work. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

"Octavia Spencer would be a good Florida. Cedric could be Bookman. Frankly, the same Wilona should show up and do her part again, mirroring Marla Gibbs reappearance."
"Good Times" being my ALL time FAVORITE sitcom for reasons I will never tell on here.
Florida(Viola Davis)
JJ(Sterling K Brown)
Thelma(Porsha Williams)
Michael(Marlon Wayans)
James(John Amos)
Wilona(Ja'net Dubois)
Penny(Marsai Martin)
Bookman (I'll keep your Cedric)

They need to leave the classics alone!

Nobody could do George Jefferson better than Sherman Helmsley. And he wasn't even the original George. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

A late friend of mines grandmother use to cook home cook meals for Sherman Hempsley. His aunt was the head writer of 'The Jeffersons'. Actually he was.....Mel Stewart played his brother Henry Jefferson during All in the Family's early years. Years ago on the Howard Stern Show, Sherman Hemsley said Norman Lear wanted HIM specifically for the role of George Jefferson, but at the time Hemsley was on tour doing the Broadway play "Purlie". Lear kept the role open for him and Hemsley joined the cast in 1973.
Funny thing was Hemsley and Isabel Sanford were 20 years apart, but they clicked onscreen. [Edited 5/26/19 13:14pm]

Didn't know that about Sherman! Thanks for the info. I was going on my memory of a different actor playing George on "All In The Family." And, Norman Lear was right! Sherman was perfect for George, just as Caroll O'Conner was perfect for Archie Bunker. They don't make shows like those anymore... Started watching the reruns on free TV again. Love those shows! Just as funny now as then. Sanford and Son, too. And, actually, I appreciate the humor and social commentary a lot more than when I was a kid...

It was a nice tribute to some groundbreaking comedies. No one can fill the shoes of the original cast members but wonderful that these actors gave tribute. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I like that list. Although, Chris Rock as JJ. I own Good Times and All in the family. On my list to get is the Jefferson's (I'm just trying to find a reasonable price!) [Edited 5/26/19 21:03pm] 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I agree Chris Rock would make an excellent JJ. A lot of actors that became huge guest starred on 'Good Times'. Debbie allen(my favorite episode besides Penny getting burned by the iron) Lou Gossett Jr(whom I worked with besides Debbie) Jay Leno,Gary Coleman(whom I ran into at my bank)Robert Guillaume,Ron Glass, MEGA superstar JANET Jackson to name a few. I liked it. But for me her best two specials were Sick And Tired, and the one she did right after Obama's first win. Amazing stuff.
Talking of comedy specials, I recently came across Whoopi Goldberg's HBO special from late 80s titled "Fontaine....why am I straight". I would say that is my favorite comedy special ever.

Wanda could probably pull off a good Florida Evans. She did name her belly roll Esther Roll and gave it an acting credit on Not Normal so it has clout now. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2
