If you voted for Trump, don't watch this Netflix special out today. You aren't going to leave happy. lol lol lol

This is probably her best stand up special yet. Anyone seen it yet?

Cheese and Rice! is she on her game with this special or what?

Well crafted and beautifully done, she just gets better with every special she does.

The political stuff was less than half of the 75 minutes. By the 30 minute mark she was moving onto other things. And listen, this is an age where someone ilke Frumpy being in the white house is golden material for all comedians. She was overdue to not only have a special, but really have the time to gouge that dumb MFer a few dozen times.

The Vick's vapor rub part was funny, as was the setup for "Can't you just be a little more lady like?"

Overall, I thought it was pretty well balanced. Most specials are about an hour. She went about 75 minutes or so, and talked about more non-political stuff than political stuff.

She doesn't do specials too often, so this was a treat.

Wanda(whom I worked on her first starring role on her short lived sitcom on fox years ago) was a hard worker. Plus she had Chip Fields, Kim Fields mother as her coach.

I didn't either. I think every one was trying to live up to the original actors and that stress made them seem flat. I thought the Jefferson's cast did better though. It's impossible to do better than the original Edith, Archie, and George! Wanda as Florence in a real reboot would work.

I'd disagree, with some of them. The ones who were trying to impersonate someone would be Woody, Marisa, and definitely Jamie Foxx. However, Marisa stole the show for AITF. Woody's problem was his accent, but after the first act, it sorta found its place. Once the party started to happen, it was easier for people to just take a moment to think before their lines came up.

Wanda stayed in her lane. She's funny on her own. She didn't try to gruff up her voice any more to speak Isabel Sanford. She added her own funny to Louise. Will Ferrell is good at playing that loveable dolt character like Tom Willis. Kerry definitely did her own Helen, but gave a gentle nod to the late Roxie Roker in her mannerisms. Ellie as Glorida was forgettable, to me.

I was talking to my friend. I think Maude and Good Times would be good for another one. The Florida Evans character was in both, although they totally made the character over for GT. Her background story was very different on Maude. Maude was the first person to have an abortion on television, so that'd be an interesting episode to re-do. There are so many good ones with GT, it's hard to pick. Octavia Spencer would be a good Florida. Cedric could be Bookman. Frankly, the same Wilona should show up and do her part again, mirroring Marla Gibbs reappearance.

In general, The Jeffersons came off better than AITF. But it was smart to use the AITF episode that actually spun off The Jeffersons; they used the pilot of The Jeffersons.

These are just fun shows to re-do. These were changing TV series. There was such a heaviness on the U.S. after one war and during another, that the only way writers could really approach politics or social issues was to wrap them in comedy. Norman Lear put politics in all his shows, whether it was a loveable bigot, a rich black family (well before the Cosby's showed up), residents of Chicago projects, or liberal woman in a conservative decade. He really touched on things that were so taboo and shyed away from back then. Today, it's normal, but Lear is the one who truly paved the way for a public conversation about many topics. He helped normalize the very idea of open conversation about certain topics, especially sexuality, women's rights, civil rights. I'm glad they put these episodes out there. I could hear gasps and laughter in the audience. The ages of the audience were right on display, which made it all even better.

Agreed! I have no interest in this. Some very good actors, but the reboot was not necessary.

A late friend of mines grandmother use to cook home cook meals for Sherman Hempsley. His aunt was the head writer of 'The Jeffersons'.

Actually he was.....Mel Stewart played his brother Henry Jefferson during All in the Family's early years. Years ago on the Howard Stern Show, Sherman Hemsley said Norman Lear wanted HIM specifically for the role of George Jefferson, but at the time Hemsley was on tour doing the Broadway play "Purlie". Lear kept the role open for him and Hemsley joined the cast in 1973.

Funny thing was Hemsley and Isabel Sanford were 20 years apart, but they clicked onscreen.

Didn't know that about Sherman! Thanks for the info. I was going on my memory of a different actor playing George on "All In The Family." And, Norman Lear was right! Sherman was perfect for George, just as Caroll O'Conner was perfect for Archie Bunker. They don't make shows like those anymore... Started watching the reruns on free TV again. Love those shows! Just as funny now as then. Sanford and Son, too. cool And, actually, I appreciate the humor and social commentary a lot more than when I was a kid...

It was a nice tribute to some groundbreaking comedies. No one can fill the shoes of the original cast members but wonderful that these actors gave tribute.

I agree Chris Rock would make an excellent JJ. A lot of actors that became huge guest starred on 'Good Times'. Debbie allen(my favorite episode besides Penny getting burned by the iron) Lou Gossett Jr(whom I worked with besides Debbie) Jay Leno,Gary Coleman(whom I ran into at my bank)Robert Guillaume,Ron Glass, MEGA superstar JANET Jackson to name a few.

I liked it. But for me her best two specials were Sick And Tired, and the one she did right after Obama's first win. Amazing stuff.

Talking of comedy specials, I recently came across Whoopi Goldberg's HBO special from late 80s titled "Fontaine....why am I straight". I would say that is my favorite comedy special ever.

Wanda could probably pull off a good Florida Evans. She did name her belly roll Esther Roll and gave it an acting credit on Not Normal so it has clout now.
