Stadia Connect! GOOGLE Live Stream! A new era in video games?

Google is launching a cloud based gaming platform. They are going to offer current gen games (or close to it) without requiring a current gen system.

With most of the processing being server based even people with a crappy PC will be able to play games they would not be able to otherwise.

you will however need a high speed connection.

Many have talked about this for decades (I mentioned this idea to a tech head 2 years ago and he kind of scoffed)

the same issue than effect online gaming will also be an issue... such as lag... lag in some game will be much more of an issue that in other... duh...

Anyway at 9am Pacific/11AM Central/Noon Eastern times see the live stream of the first real details of the service... cost and launch...

it looks kind of okay. the games they showed were good but nothing I would get. In fact I am less and less intrested in games. I want to be! I just meh.

but they have a nice deal for a founders edition. If you are a big gamer it might be worth it.

I just don't see the point of this. You'll still need to buy the games separately anyway because they're not included in the subscription fee. So what's the point? Imagine having to pay for each movie you watch on Netflix on top of the monthly fee. That's what this is. I just don't see this being a success at all. I'm sure most people who have an Xbox or PlayStation 4 will get the next Xbox or PlayStation when they come out. And they'll have all the same games plus the likes of Halo, Forza, Uncharted etc.

I do think that streaming is the future of gaming but it will be companies like Microsoft who will benefit from it through their XCloud service, not Google or any other newcomer to the market.

I thought that the games all came with the top tier membership subscription?

I took it that you can pay less and just pay for a given game.

And you may well be right that google will not win. Often the first one to do something doesn't win.

But for now Google seems to have an advantage. Neither Microsoft nor Sony have the infrastructure in place to host and process these games and deliver them fast enough.

The idea of could based processing is what makes this way different. If done correctly these games could be better in many ways that even the most up to date desktop PCs.

Nope, you still need to pay for the games separately. The only thing you get for the subscription price is the ability to stream in 4K. Oh, and Destiny 2. But that's hardly worth the money as its going free to play soon anyway on consoles.

Google isn't the first to do it though. Sony currently have a streaming service of their own called PlayStation Now, which has over 700 games on it. And Microsoft have spent a fortune on their upcoming XCloud service so they'll have just as wide a reach as Google. In fact, Sony have already agreed signed a deal to use Microsoft's data centres to widen its reach for PlayStation Now and Nintendo are supposedly in negotiations with Microsoft to do the same when they launch their own worldwide streaming service (which is currently only available in Japan and limited to Switch versions of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Resident Evil 7).

It's good that Microsoft and to some extent Sony and Nintendo feel the need to team up in order to prevent Google getting a foothold in the market. It shows they're worried about the competition and hopefully that will lead to a better approach from them. Competition is a good thing. So for that reason alone, this Google Stadia is good for the industry. But it seems like the writing is already on the wall for it and this presentation today did nothing to change that feeling.

Looks really good. I'm not into the online shooting games at all so the Battlefront games are of absolutely no interest to me at all. But this looks good. Plus, it stars The Joker. So that's a plus!

Microsoft has a subscription based game library (for Xbox One) which they have been testing for years on Azure, which is already better than "Stadia", so Microsoft has Google beat in that department...
Next to that Microsoft is also outsourcing their Azure platform to Sony so people can stream their PS games (or likewise subscription based like Microsoft...) and the added bonus with that is is that Xbox and Playstation will finally have cross-platform multiplayer...
So in the end I'll stick with my PC, Xbox and PS... No need for subpar Google crap...
