Material Things You know, for the vast majority of my life I wasn't really into material things all that much. I looked at it like, well, when I die, what's it gonna matter what I had and I didn't have. Well, let me tell you, I've changed my mind.
Don't get me wrong, I have a huge shopping problem and I always have, but I would sit there and really think about (at times) how badly I needed something; if the "need" was there, other times people had to talk me out of buying things just because I tend to justify any purchase and am quite good at it, but I would tend to feel guilty afterwards. Anyway... I'm going to spend every stinkin' cent I have on things that I want, and things that I love, for me and my children. Who cares how much money I have in the bank or any of that crap there. I mean, I may as well enjoy the material items while I'm here, instead of having money and not have enjoyed anything when I die. So, I am no longer going to worry about if the item I want to buy is of great use to me or if I really need it. I'm just going to buy it and enjoy it. What about you guys? Do you buy things to enjoy them or really wait to buy something until you need it?

I usually wait until I really need something.

I buy things I don't need all the time. If I feel down I go shopping! I know I shouldn't but sometimes you know it hits the spot!
I think It's called retail therapy.. I bought a silver necklace today. I don't know if I will ever wear it but it is nice to look at!

I actually read a post on HERE () that said "I don't intend on dying with a cent in my bank account".
I liked that a lot! Life is short. Do what makes you happy, in every aspect of life Heather! Oh shit, my hat done fell off

i'm a GREAT shopper.. i don't need to muck around... i can very quickly find loads of stuff that i love... that said... i rarely splurge... as my music equipment keeps me pretty happy... i do like to buy my baby presents though (not trying to sound like mr wonderful... it's just the truth) so that often satisfies my spending urges

I used to buy things on whim, back when I had credit cards... but since I don't have any, anymore... I now know how to wait until I need something, and to know IF I really did it.

I tend to do that, well similar anyway... if someone can't talk me out of it, and then there it sits and I usually DO want it, it's just that I don't do anything with it because they made me feel guilty for buying it. "Heather? Do you REALLY NEED ANOTHER purse?" "No, but... I mean, look at what it has here.. look at ALL OF THIS STUFF IT HAS!" "But, Heather, you have others like it, you don't need it." "No, I DON'T have another like it. This one is different in SO MANY ways!"

I liked that a lot! Life is short. Do what makes you happy, in every aspect of life Heather! And, I'm going to die with every cent spent and I'll have enjoyed spending every cent! "Well, look! Poor girl died and is flat-assed broke!" "Yep, but look at all the STUFF she has!"

I especially love the seasonal sales in NYC. i'm always at thift shops and little boutiques here in philly but i also save up for two or three big shopping excursions to gaultier and d&g and the other glam stores in NY (but only during the afforementioned sales)! I have a terrible spending habit and one day i will be homeless...but i'll have the best bags of all the homeless!!

It takes a very patient and strong-willed person to talk me out of something that I think I need or want. But, now... I'm just going to buy it and not worry about it! No justification needed, damnit!

It's funny that you mentioned this. THIS is what made me decide that I am going to just get it to get it. I went out and was going to buy a new table. So, I picked it out and kept looking at it; liking it but it wasn't really what I wanted. Anyway, I made the guy take it up to the front for me to pay for it, then walked around forever thinking, "Shit. I DO like the table, BUT, if I am going to spend money on this, shouldn't I spend the money on a table that I LOVE and not just like? Don't you have medical bills coming up?" So, instead of being practical, I am going to save up the rest of the money to buy the table that I want, so I left it there. And, even going that far.. shopping for it, getting it ready to go... that whole thing, satisfied me enough. It was like I bought and I really didn't! So, in a sense, it's like you were talking about! Medical bills aren't going to run my life. They can do that thing they do and write it off when I die. I'm going to enjoy life and pay them what I can, when I can, and if it's paid off before I kick the proverbial bucket, then they're lucky!

Careful Azyre, as much as this sounds great in theory. Don't go on a spending spree buying alot of nonsense.
It's ok to put some away for a rainy day. The real key to happiness is to have fun without spending alot of money.

No, in all seriousness, I'm not just going to go out and buy, buy, buy. I'm just going to buy things and not worry about this or that or feel bad because I did spend money on something that I wanted, just because I wanted it and for no other reason. I'm basically going to enjoy things now... because I can, damnit! What next? Are you gonna ask me why my windows are open and my heat is on!? (you may have missed that post so you might not even get this).
