Just like "Mr. Mom" being cast as Batman, right?
You need to seriously catch up on the guy's movies; he's has a more solid streak of good movies he's been in than any actor who played the Batman and he might be the best serious actor yet to portray the Batman (next to Christian Bale that is...)

The shitty director doing the movie(s) will be the biggest problem because those monkey movies he did are all badly written and pure crap...

Christian Bale was overrated. Ben Affleck was much better in the role. Especially so when you consider how little he had to work with. The fact that he'll never get a chance to star in (and direct) a solo Batman movie is perhaps WBs biggest fuck up yet. As you said, the director isn't up to much either so my hopes for this movie are virtually non-existent. The only director who's really nailed the proper Batman-feel is Tim Burton. His movies were camp without feeling silly (Batman Forever) or downright stupid (Batman & Robin). They never took themselves too seriously and ended up being boring and full of plot holes either (Dark Knight & Dark Knight Rises). Frankly, I'd rather Tim Burton return to the franchise and direct a Batman Beyond movie where Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne is training a younger man to be the next Batman. At least that would be better than another fucking origin story.

I liked Christian Bale as an "Elseworlds" version of Batman...
Ben Affleck's acting was crap, even though he was a drunk in real life his alcoholic Bruce Wayne was just bad, his stuntman on the other hand was the best Batman put on screen...
Having him write and direct a Batman movie could have been amazing because that's where he shines and not the acting department, but WB is a place full of fuck-ups who like to fuck around with shit they don't know anything about and are only after the Marvel money instead of focussing on proper use of superiour comicbook characters...

Tim Burton did a great gothic Batman take, but still "Elseworlds" because his Batman just isn't proper "Batman", just like Christian Bale's version only Bale's version is much closer to the not-Elseworlds version of Batman, and I think Christopher Nolan's movies are still the best comicbook movies ever created... At least he knew he was making a "movie" instead of those people at Marvel who obviously think they're making cartoons but with real people and the cringey and shitty writing...
As far as I heared the new trilogy won't be an origin story... (Stupid and dumb they're already focussing on a trilogy instead of making one good movie first, but it's WB so intelligence is beyond their reach ever since Christopher Nolan left them hanging...)
We'll see...

Back in 1989 I only knew Michael Keaton from some shitty old people flick called "Mr. Mom" (I was 11 what did I know, right?) and only went to see the movie to see Jack be Jack in make-up and it turned out Keaton's Batman was fucking awesome...

I've never seen Twilight and only knew the new guy from some Harry Potter movie, then I watched him in Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" and that blew my mind... When I saw him in "Lost City of Z", "Good Time" and "High Life" that guy convinced me that he had more acting talent than all the previous "Batmen" combined... (And I love Michael Keaton and Christian Bale...)
His new movie with Willem Dafoe, "The Lighthouse" is said to be a small masterpiece, so if he can hold his own against Willem Dafoe then we might get a great Batman...

like you, i know nothing about those twilight films, & i don't want to know about them.

but in the last few years he's done:

high life

good time

lost city of z

the rover

all great, and all quite different & all pretty daring.

certainly he hasn't rested on any sort of silly teen idol status.

i don't really care about batman. i was a marvel kid growing up, & i guess i'm still loyal to that brand. a new batman movie doesn't excite me.

but a batman movie with that guy in the role is something to look forward to.

I like the 1966 movie and the Michael Keaton ones. The other 2 from the 1990s were alright. I don't remember what they were about though. With the more recent ones I've only seen The Dark Knight Rises and I didn't get the weird voice. Batman sounded like a death metal singer. lol I don't really care that much for the Dark Knight era Batman anyway or comics that are too serious. When I was a kid I mostly had comic books like Road Runner, Richie Rich, & Donald Duck and whatever was in the newspaper funny pages, except the romance stuff like Apartment 3G. Spider-Man was in the newspaper comics. That's why I never watched Man Of Steel or Batman vs. Superman, I'm not interested in a dark Superman. I did see Justice League, but I checked it out from the library. Didn't go to the movies to see it. I liked the Shazam! movie. That's more my style. I did kinda like the Sin City movies, but I have never read the comic.

I seen Cosmopolis but I admit I haven't seen the other movies you mentioned. Maybe he will be good. It could happen. But he's probably on a list of 5 actors who I would NEVER consider for the role. If given the right material, almost anyone could do a decent job. But given that the writer/director is not exactly known for his great work, I have serious doubts about this movie. And the fact that they're intent on making a trilogy rather than focusing on making one good movie and seeing where they stand after that, just further adds to my fears for this movie. If they cast a good villain, it might assuage my fears. Something like Willem Dafoe as The Joker?

Ava DuVernay's 'New Gods' Adds Comic Book Creator Tom King as Co-Writer
May 29, 2019 | by Graeme McMillan | Hollywood Reporter

Ava DuVernay has a new partner to help her take on DC’s New Gods: comic book writer Tom King.

DuVernay on Wednesday revealed that King had joined the project via a tweet. King’s connection to the mythology of New Gods is well-known: His Mister Miracle comic book series, illustrated by Mitch Gerads, was a revival of one of the four core 1970s “Fourth World” comic book series, alongside New Gods and the lesser-known Forever People and Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen series.

The so-called “Fourth World” comic books centered around the conflict between two alien planets, New Genesis and Apokolips, which spilled over onto Earth when Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, discovers that the key to eradicating free will across the universe can be found in the minds of certain humans. The mythology was the work of Jack Kirby, who had earlier helped create Captain America, the Avengers, the X-Men, the Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-Man and Thor for DC’s competition, Marvel Comics.

King and Gerads’ Mister Miracle series, which featured multiple New Gods characters and took the mythology further than it had gone under Kirby in terms of plot development, won multiple awards throughout its 12-issue run, which ended in November.

DuVernay was announced as the helmer of the New Gods adaptation in March of last year. It might have been an unexpected choice for the Selma director, but not entirely; months before she was attached to the project, she revealed on Twitter that Big Barda was her favorite superhero for “many reasons.”

Barda — one of the Female Furies, an elite squad of warrior women trained to fight for New Gods arch-antagonist Darkseid — is one of the most popular characters in the Fourth World mythology. Not coincidentally, she was one of the main characters in King’s Mister Miracle series.

News of King’s hiring was first reported by The Wrap.

Co-sign. You nailed it with your take on the Nolan/Bale Batman. Those comic-book films are as good as it gets, particularly Dark Knight.

I doubt WB can reach those heights again.

The best Batman movie is Mask of the Phantasm. The best Batman is Kevin Conroy and the best joker is Mark Hamill.

I'd go along with that.

To me, the definitive Batman is the one from the animated series. In fact, the definitive versions of every character are from that show.

Sure, agree partly, but put them in a live-action movie and they'll fail...
Have them dub or ADR other actors in the suit then it might get interesting...

You mention nothing about the story. A thousand times more interesting than any live action movie made yet.

Not sure about that. Movie came in 1993 and Kevin Conroy would be in his late 30's and at 6'2 would have been a good choice to play Batman. Only thing wrong with him is he's not a big name for the studio. Also all the other actors who did the voices are all good actors as well such as Dana Delany, Stacy Keach, Abe Vigoda, and Mark Hamil. Once again great story and great action. What I notice about the live versions is they tend to show way more Bruce Wayne then they do Batman. Mostly I think it's the studio wanting to show off the actors face and not hide behind a mask.

This isn't 1993, we're living in 2019... Conroy and Hamill won't work in a live action movie period...
If you mentioned in your earlier post that you meant in a 1993 live action movie then I'd agree...

Yes I know what year it is. I said Mask of the Phantasm was the best Batman movie and that movie came out in 1993.

Mark Hamill actually did dub a live action version of The Joker in the Birds of Prey TV series.

If a live action Batman movie had Winslow Schott, Condiment King, or Batmite in it, I'd watch it. I'd like to see Icon & Rocket in a movie.

You never seen a movie with a good story???? I 100% disagree with you that a good story only applies to a novel. But then again a good story is very subjective. Yes I believe a good story is where you start first and yes it goes without saying you need good directors/actors/budget/ and so on. You can even have good actors but if they don't fit the part it can also ruin a movie. But none of this applies to the Mask of the Phantasm.

Yup, I think that was the best thing about that TV series.
