Christian Bale was overrated. Ben Affleck was much better in the role. Especially so when you consider how little he had to work with. The fact that he'll never get a chance to star in (and direct) a solo Batman movie is perhaps WBs biggest fuck up yet. As you said, the director isn't up to much either so my hopes for this movie are virtually non-existent. The only director who's really nailed the proper Batman-feel is Tim Burton. His movies were camp without feeling silly (Batman Forever) or downright stupid (Batman & Robin). They never took themselves too seriously and ended up being boring and full of plot holes either (Dark Knight & Dark Knight Rises). Frankly, I'd rather Tim Burton return to the franchise and direct a Batman Beyond movie where Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne is training a younger man to be the next Batman. At least that would be better than another fucking origin story.

like you, i know nothing about those twilight films, & i don't want to know about them. but in the last few years he's done: high life good time lost city of z the rover all great, and all quite different & all pretty daring. certainly he hasn't rested on any sort of silly teen idol status. i don't really care about batman. i was a marvel kid growing up, & i guess i'm still loyal to that brand. a new batman movie doesn't excite me. but a batman movie with that guy in the role is something to look forward to.

I like the 1966 movie and the Michael Keaton ones. The other 2 from the 1990s were alright. I don't remember what they were about though. With the more recent ones I've only seen The Dark Knight Rises and I didn't get the weird voice. Batman sounded like a death metal singer. I don't really care that much for the Dark Knight era Batman anyway or comics that are too serious. When I was a kid I mostly had comic books like Road Runner, Richie Rich, & Donald Duck and whatever was in the newspaper funny pages, except the romance stuff like Apartment 3G. Spider-Man was in the newspaper comics. That's why I never watched Man Of Steel or Batman vs. Superman, I'm not interested in a dark Superman. I did see Justice League, but I checked it out from the library. Didn't go to the movies to see it. I liked the Shazam! movie. That's more my style. I did kinda like the Sin City movies, but I have never read the comic. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. I seen Cosmopolis but I admit I haven't seen the other movies you mentioned. Maybe he will be good. It could happen. But he's probably on a list of 5 actors who I would NEVER consider for the role. If given the right material, almost anyone could do a decent job. But given that the writer/director is not exactly known for his great work, I have serious doubts about this movie. And the fact that they're intent on making a trilogy rather than focusing on making one good movie and seeing where they stand after that, just further adds to my fears for this movie. If they cast a good villain, it might assuage my fears. Something like Willem Dafoe as The Joker?

Co-sign. You nailed it with your take on the Nolan/Bale Batman. Those comic-book films are as good as it gets, particularly Dark Knight.
I doubt WB can reach those heights again.

The best Batman movie is Mask of the Phantasm. The best Batman is Kevin Conroy and the best joker is Mark Hamill.

You mention nothing about the story. A thousand times more interesting than any live action movie made yet.

Not sure about that. Movie came in 1993 and Kevin Conroy would be in his late 30's and at 6'2 would have been a good choice to play Batman. Only thing wrong with him is he's not a big name for the studio. Also all the other actors who did the voices are all good actors as well such as Dana Delany, Stacy Keach, Abe Vigoda, and Mark Hamil. Once again great story and great action. What I notice about the live versions is they tend to show way more Bruce Wayne then they do Batman. Mostly I think it's the studio wanting to show off the actors face and not hide behind a mask.

If a live action Batman movie had Winslow Schott, Condiment King, or Batmite in it, I'd watch it. I'd like to see Icon & Rocket in a movie. You never seen a movie with a good story???? I 100% disagree with you that a good story only applies to a novel. But then again a good story is very subjective. Yes I believe a good story is where you start first and yes it goes without saying you need good directors/actors/budget/ and so on. You can even have good actors but if they don't fit the part it can also ruin a movie. But none of this applies to the Mask of the Phantasm. [Edited 6/16/19 10:37am]
