R.I.P To a legend: Niki Lauda dead at 70.

I wanted to make this thread sooner but oh well. From CNN:

Three-time Formula One champion Niki Lauda, who recovered from a near-fatal accident to become one of motor racing's greatest drivers, has died aged 70.

The Austrian, who built a new career as an airline entrepreneur after leaving the track, died peacefully on Monday, his family said in a statement sent to CNN.
Lauda was hospitalized earlier this year with influenza and underwent a lung transplant last year.

Lauda was also a good friend of the Austrian Super Star Falco. When his friend died in a car crash in 1998, it was Lauda himself who flew his casket home to Vienna.

May he rest in peace.

I never really followed his career and don´t know that much about him. Seems he was quite a positive person.

He really was very positive tho. I mean, he almost got grilled alive and honestly, I don't think I'd have the balls to get into one of those cars again, but he did it like, I think weeks or three months after the accident.

as an Austrian I have to pay tribute in this thread I guess...

Niki and Formula One races, in the 70s now that was something! a fix point from my childhood.

and of course his crash at Nurnburgring was on of those tragic days branded in your memory (the same day also the Reichsbruecke over the Danube in Vienna crashed!)
you know, a day where everyone remebers the exact moment, location and circumstances when it happened, like the JFK murder or 9/11 ....or last weekend when that idiot HC Strache imploded and single handedly took down the Austrian goverment with him woot! headbang

but I disgress...

so thank you Niki for a great ride, RIP, you'll be missed rose

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

if your're interested, tonite on TV in ORF1 they show the movie "Rush - Alles fuer den Sieg"

highly rcommended! Daniel Bruehl as Niki is fantastic

the movie does focus on the Season 1976 and the dramatic duel and rivalry between Lauda and James Hunt (played by Chris Hemsworth)

the Nurnburg-crash and the recovery of Niki have a central part in the story of course.

I´ll see if I can find it online and watch it. I like movies that take place in the 70s.
