‘Empire’ to End with Season 6, Will Shift Back to Tuesdays

Fox’s “Empire” reign is coming to an end.

The network announced on Monday that the previously announced sixth season of the hit musical drama would be the show’s last. It will return in the fall to its original Tuesday night time period for its final run of episodes.

“Season Six promises to be filled with drama, shocking surprises and more jaw-dropping moments,” the network said in a release. “The award-winning drama about a family dynasty set within the glamorous and sometimes dangerous world of hip-hop music has generated chart-topping hits, and socially relevant storylines, introduced “Boo Boo Kitty” into the zeitgeist and delivered over-the-top OMG moments weekly. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrence Howard), the two larger-than-life characters at the center of the series, have taken viewers through the highs and lows that come with fame and fortune. As the series enters its final season, one thing is for sure, the Lyons never go out without a bang.”

The news came along with the rest of the network’s fall schedule, released on Monday ahead of Fox’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers.

Fox just cancelled one of my favorite shows the Queen Latifah(whom just had a raunchy sex scene on it) vehicle "Star". It was a groundbreaking show and in many ways more thrilling than "Empire'..

"Empire" would have ended after the sixth season no matter what prior happened.

Yup, ratings were tanking long before the Jussie hoax. He knew the show was ending, which is a big reason why he did what he did.

Good time for it to end. Although Season 5 was the most interesting season since the first. For me, the storylines have been too all over the place, espcially for the last three seasons. Like, I don't know where this Damon Cross character came from in Season 5 or why he's even there. lol And don't even get me started on the Demi Moore character from Season 4. confused The show has been very unfocused and not really enough time dedicated to character development when someone new is brought aboard.

Another show that lost its way.

The writing is/was really bad and just not very interesting.

Don't get too caught up by the hype over Empire going into its last season. Creatively it's going out probably at the time it should be, as I don't think they have any fresh story arcs to dive into at this point. The ratings have also taken quite a dive over the past few seasons, even though it's still the second highest rated scripted program on the network. And don't get caught up in the Jussie Smolett drama either.

Ever since Fox sold its movie and TV studios, FX, FXX, and its regional sports networks to Disney while keeping the main network, Fox News, Fox Business, FS1, FS2, and BTN, they havce basically broadcast to the world that the "new Fox" is going to go mainly towards sports and reality TV programming. That's one of the reasons why Fox is pulling the plug on Empire and already pulled the plug on Star. (The other reason is that they can't sell the show overseas or to streaming services at a high price.) They're keeping their animated block (The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers), but they haven't made any long term committments towards their other scripted shows either (9-1-1, The Resident, Last Man Standing, The Orville). The only shows they are guaranteeing at this point are Thursday Night Football, WWE Smackdown, The Masked Singer, Gordon Ramsay's trifecta (Hell's Kitchen, Marster Chef, Master Chef Jr.).

I watched one episode during the first season, I believe. The acting reminded me of something you would see at a community theatre. It seemed overly-rehearsed, like they were trying too hard to be convincing.

LOVE IT!!!

It's the best show Tyler has EVER done. He also writes, directs & produces the whole season ALL by his lonesome.
