UPDATE: John Singleton Hospitalized After Suffering a Stroke To Be Taken Off Life Support

JohnSingleton.jpg

Writer-director John Singleton(whom I worked with on a groundbreaking mini- series) has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

The two-time Oscar nominee for “Boyz N the Hood” suffered a “mild” stroke after checking into a hospital this week after feeling ill following a trip to Costa Rica, a family member told TMZ.

It was the flight that caused it, I'm betting. I have been dealing with blood clots since I was 17 years old. Both my mother (age 29) and her mother (age 25) died from blood clots. As I age, I'm at an increased risk of getting stroke.

He can recover from a mild stroke, but there may be some issues that he'll deal with for a time (maybe some memory loss, or fine motor skills loss, maybe some paralysis or aphasia). With a minor stroke, with therapies, he may recover most (if not all) functions.

There are things you can do on a flight to protect yourself, to help prevent getting blood clots (which can lead to stroke).

When it is safe to do so, get up and walk to the loo. Stretch those calf muscles. Really work them, as you are walking. Try to do that every hour or so. The other thing is to exercise your legs while you are sitting in your seat. Tighten your leg muscles, hold it, then release. Do that several times in a row every hour. Point your toes and pull them back. The goal is to keep circulation going in your legs. On long flights, if you are sitting immobile for a long period of time, it can cause the blood to pool in your legs, causing a blood clot, or sitting (in the manner we tend to do when on a flight with limited space to move your legs) can cut off the blood flow, and you have to exercise your legs to keep that blood flow going. Also, take an aspirin before your flight. An adult aspiin (81 mg) thins the blood, which helps with circulation. The aspirin does not take the place of exercising those legs though. You need to do this if you are going for long car drives, too.

As I've said, I've been dealing with clots since I was 17 and they are no fun. They feel like a severe muscle pull in your leg, but your leg will swell up, may get red and feverish (though, mine never did, it just swelled up - a lot). But as we get older (whcih most of us are doing) the risk increases with age. So please please please make sure you all exercise those legs when sitting at your desk for long periods of time (get up and walk around for 15 minutes out of every hour of sitting). I wouldn't wish these things on my worst enemy.

I really hope John Singleton a speedy recovery.

John Singleton in Coma Following "Major Stroke"!!!

In an application for temporary conservatorship, the director's mother said that he was involved in a "lucrative settlement agreement" at the time of the medical emergency.

Sheila Ward applied to be the 51-year-old Snowfall co-creator's temporary conservator, a judge-appointed individual who looks over a person's health and finances when they cannot do it themselves, in an application to California's Superior Court on Thursday. The document details some previously undisclosed circumstances of Singleton's stroke, such as that the medical incident on April 17 was "major" and left him hospitalized in a coma.

Ward also disclosed that the director "was engaged in several business projects and was prepared to sign a lucrative settlement agreement on or about April 30, 2019" at the time of the stroke. Ward added that a conservator must be appointed immediately to manage his business and prevent "substantial financial loss" should the settlement agreement not be signed.

This COMPLETELY breaks my heart after working with this man. It was a dream of mine that came true. I kind of figured it was more serious then they let on. U don't stay in ICU that long unless it's dire. I will not be able to handle if his condition worsens. sad

I'm sorry to hear that, ChocolateBox3121. sad I was hoping with a minor stroke that he would recover fairly quickly. I'll be keeping him in my prayers.

Now it look like John's daughter and John's mother are feuding. that why it is very important for folks to get their orders especially if you are over 35 and especially if you have massive wealth. You don't see Luke Perry's family feuding becuase he had his orders together and that helped his fiancee and kids to have some comfort. Nevertheless I hope wellness for John. But I have a feeling he might not be the same anymore.

John Singleton's stroke triggered what appears to be a family war over his condition and care, because one of John's daughters has just effectively called John's mother a liar.
Cleopatra Singleton claims in new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, that her dad is NOT in a coma and claims he's getting better everyday. This is in stark contrast to the legal docs filed just yesterday by John's mom, Shelia, who claimed he was in a coma and had suffered a "major stroke."

John is in a induced coma. Which is still not good. It means he's had a major stroke. A coma is induced in patients who are at high risk of brain injury. He shouldn't be in it no more than two weeks. At that time his fate will be determined. pray

Love B Scott said John won't expected to make it according to his source.

But again there still always a miracle. So keep praying or sending positive thoughts.

I trust his sources because he was the first to report John had a stroke. Plus Love B Scott has a good relationship with numerous celebrities and their associates.

I just looked at John's final picture on his IG and he was just getting ready to leave Costa Rica and he didn't look so well. confused

"Sources close to the situation exclusively confirm to lovebscott.com that John is indeed in a coma and his loved ones are now being told to ‘make peace with him’ as he isn’t expected to pull through."

I was sad about Luke Perry but I am going to be even sadder of John Singleton because I had been a fan of his work since 11.

'Baby Boy' Stars Taraji P. Henson & Tyrese Gibson(whom I both worked with)Visit John Singleton In The Hospital: 'You Heard My Voice And Jumped'

Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese Gibson stopped by the bedside of director John Singleton last weekend after the beloved director was hospitalized earlier this month due to suffering a major stroke.

“Visited you today. Me and [Tyrese] prayed so hard over you. You heard my voice and jumped up. I HAVE HOPE AND FAITH BECAUSE I KNOW THAT #GODIS. Keep praying EVERYBODY for our beloved [John Singleton],”

I believe in miracles. Half the press said he already passed. Smh

John Singleton to Be Taken Off Life Support Today

Writer-director John Singleton, a pioneering African-American filmmaker and TV producer, will be taken off of life support today, nearly two weeks after he suffered a debilitating stroke.

Singleton’s family issued a statement Monday citing the “agonizing decision” to remove him from life support at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Singleton turned 51 in January.

“We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpouring of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We want to thank all the doctors at Cedars Sinai for the impeccable care he received,” the family said in a statement.

He may never have topped his first movie but if he retired after Boyz N The Hood he would have been a legend from that alone. He's a director whose career I followed since I became serious about my love of movies and I have always maintained that another classic from him was not too far away. Even when he was directing shit like 2 Fast 2 Furious, I knew he had more great movies in him. All he needed was the right material. He proved himself with Boyz and Rosewood and they more than make up for the bad movies.

Touching post, but I tend 2 disagree somewhat. Poetic Justice n Higher Learning r near classics imo. Even Baby Boy has it's moments. Either way, fine filmmaker pray.
