My dad has the same concerns when my family sees the movie this weekend. We joked that he could do what many tourists do in Times Square on New Year's Eve waiting several hours for the ball to drop and wear diapers.

It's only 20 minutes longer than infinity war.

infinity war came in at 2hrs 29 mins - but if you just watch it to the moment the credits start to roll, it's actually a fairly tidy 2hrs 17m.

i'm hearing that there are no mid or post credit scenes. were there any at the screening you saw, emma? if that's the case, i can make my run as soon as the credits roll.

i'm sure i'll be ok. my only real worry is that i'll start to really need to go around the 2hr mark, at which point i won't want to leave, & then i won't be able to fully invest in the finale because part of my mind will be focused on how badly i need to pee, haha.

But seriously, I watch most movies at the Booze and Chow, or sometimes at the Booze But No Chow. As you can see, booze is generally a part of the movie-going experience for me.

Therefore, it's good to know that if I go see this at a theater, I should go somewhere they don't have any booze to tempt me with.

Maybe in the next movie review I write, I'll incorporate something like, "Here's exactly what happens 1 hour and 15 minutes into the movie, in case you need to go to the bathroom. Read this, and then you'll know what's happening while you are seeing a man about a horse".

If that doesn't get me a Pulitzer nomination, I give up.

BTW, I actually wrote a letter in support of a guy's Nobel Peace Prize nomination. Which isn't that big of a deal. All you really need to know is the Nobel Foundation's address. Still, that's going in my obituary, which as of now reads kind of like this:

"He was a man who sang with Prince, wrote Pulitzer-worthy movie reviews with bathroom break information in them, and once wrote a letter for a guy who almost certainly didn't win the Noble Peace Prize but if he does, give RodeoSchro credit for it."

Saw Endgame last night with my brother, midnight premier at my local Odeon. It was packed, their three largest screens all sold out ... and yet again the audience were impeccably well behaved. You could hear a pin drop the entire three hours, apart from the laughing, cheering, gasps in all the right places. Restores my faith in the cinema going experience!

The film itself was brilliant. The first half hour really didn't go the way I thought it was going to. Bit of a twist two thirds in I didn't see coming. But the end was pretty much what my brother and I predicted, though to be fair we've been discussing it for a year now so there was a good chance we'd hit on the plot choices ... it was still amazing though.

How they manage to wrangle that many characters and actors and, not only keep the whole thing on the rails, but make a brilliant film really is a genius stroke of filmmaking.

Are intermissions still a thing in the States? I've seen a ton of three hour films here in the UK and there's never been mention of a break. I think an intermission would spoil the film for me, everyone coming out of the screening then going back in ... I like to get fully involved from start to finish, no distractions.

My older, weaker bladdered me might have something to say about that in a few years though

I'll be seeing it this Saturday night with a sold out crowd. I'm so hoping the crowd isn't a distraction. Typically I go after a few weeks from the opening. I decided to enjoy this payoff with a theatre full of other people that's invested 10 plus years in these characters and storeylines.

The screening I was at was virtually empty. Which suits me fine because if its one thing I hate, its loudmouths in the cinema. And unfortunately, there's a lot of loudmouths in Dublin's cinemas. Hopefully when I take my daughter to see it the people there will be well behaved. That first 30 minutes or so kind of took me by surprise a bit too. I had been purposely avoiding anything to do with the movie before seeing it so I don't really know what I was expecting though. I'm glad you mentioned how difficult it must have been to make a film like this. I'm sure some people will dismiss it as "just another superhero blockbuster" but I doubt that there's many filmmakers who could have made this movie.

My biggest annoyance in the world are people that don't know how to behave properly in a cinema, so you have my sympathies

Part of the joy of a midnight screening, you know its only "proper" film fans that will drag themselves out at that hour. And there really is something extra special about seeing a film with a large appreciative audience ...

... there was one surprise bit in the battle at the end (no spoilers, but you'll probably get what it is) and this guy behind us just blurted out "Go on my son!". Wasn't said to be an annoying or clever, this guy was just totally caught up in the moment ... few people cheered then to. Great stuff

When you look at the hash they made of Spiderman 3, Batman & Robin and the like with just a handful of characters, makes what the MCU have done even more astonishing.

the last movie i can remember seeing play with an intermission was reds back in 1981. for some reason, the 12 year old damo wanted to see a 3hr20m movie about the russian revolution. weird.

the exception to that is the screening of 2001 i saw last year, which played with an intermission, exactly as it did when it was first released. i didn't use the washroom either of the two times i went to see it, but i was very appreciative of its presence. it gave me a chance to relax, walk around a bit before diving back into the movie - and it was in a perfect spot. particularly in a dense, slowly paced film like that, i think an intermission gives a very good chance to take a break, & makes the back half of the film less of a chore & more of a pleasure.

i personally would very much like to see them make a comeback. i'm sure it will likely never happen, particularly on large scale releases like endgame where theatres are trying to squeeze in as many first weekend showings as possible, but i would be very happy if it would become the standard for every film that runs say... over 2hrs 15m.
