Congratulations, Katie Bouman

woot! flower excited worship party :bananadance:

Bouman didn’t know the first thing about black holes when she joined the team six years ago. Her background was in computer science and electrical engineering, and she got involved in the project while pursuing a PhD in computer vision. Her passion is “coming up with ways to see or measure things that are invisible,” which made her a good candidate for attempting to produce an image of a black hole, a region of space that has a gravitational pull so powerful that nothing, including light, can escape.

one little annoyance with a few articles black holes don't suck anything in like a vaccum cleaner. Things basically fall in when they cross the event horizon. That is all . Back to the yay's.

That's interesting. They do portray it that way. So, you would just fall in. Like you were walking and fell in a hole. The hole didn't pull you in.

clapping Congrats to Katie Bouman! She had scientists from around the world working with her all at the same time to get the complete image. Einstein would be proud.

No, black holes dont suck anything in anymore than our sun sucks us in. It's gravity the same force. Visual explanations are easier to understand than written. The heavier the ball on the trampoline the deeper the indention the faster things fall into the center of the indention. Weird concept but it works.
