One of my closest friends passed away suddenly a few days ago.

She was only 45. It's hitting me fucking hard. Helps to talk about it.

Have any of you guys ever lost someone near-and-dear to you without warning? cry

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost a close friend of 30 years 3 years ago a few months before Prince passed. It was extemely hard; she died suddenly without warning and was the same age as I was. It helps to talk to other friends who knew that person and, sometimes, grief therapy can help. Only time will lessen the pain. My deepest sympathies... hug

My mother was younger than that when she died 5 years ago. It wasn't sudden though. Kind of happened over a period of about a month. Deaths are never easy to deal with, especially when it's someone so young. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you, purplethunder.

Yes, it definitely helps to talk (especially if I'm talking to someone who knew her).

I still do therapy every couple of weeks (really just maintenance at this point) and my next appointment's next week.

Reminders of her are everywhere. Her guitar's here in my place...other remnants... And now I'm boarding her dog until we can find the right owner.

Exhausted (both emotionally and physically). sigh

the best friend i ever had died 22 years ago this month. he'd had a seizure condition stemming from a brain injury he suffered as a teen in a bike crash. he eventually had the seizure that killed him. he was 25 and he'd been the core of our social circle and the source of constant goodness and kindness in my life through years of personal tumult. we were days away from road tripping to miami.

he and another friend and i were the prince fans...this other friend and i would spend the summer drowning our sorrows in the jam of the year tour without him...

the pain has faded, but i often miss him and wonder how my life would be with him still in it.

sorry you lost your friend, ace...revel in the coming spring.

my friend was a huge the the fan, as well. this is the song i listen to when i miss him and need a good cry.

My deepest condolences. We lost a very good friend when he was only 36 from a heart attack. We could not believe it. All of his close pals were in utter shock and 20 years later we still get very sad when we reminence about him, but we also end up laughing and really enjoying the walk down memory lane. Losing someone we love is always difficult. It does help to talk about it and always try to remember all the wonderful times you shared with her.

Cancer. I've never smoked in my life and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've drank alcohol, but if I did do either of those things, I would have stopped after seeing how my mother died. It's not a good way to go.

Yes. Here one moment, gone the next along with the only life I knew. There are no words to describe the incredible pain.
Sorry for your loss.

We just buried a family member yesterday. He was only 46. I used to babysit him when he was born. That made saying goodbye ever harder. sad
