Oscars 2019 -- Thoughts?

Spike Lee FINALLY won an Oscar.

The show was GREAT without a host and less filler.

The Academy did a good job of spreading the wealth. If Beale Street Could Talk, Black Panther, Roma, The Favourite, and others won significant awards.

Green Book was what it was: a fantasy-based crowd pleaser. In the years to come it will be another Crash or Driving Miss Daisy as Beale Street, Roma, BlacKKKlansman and other 2018 films grow in stature.

My wife and I saw The Favorite and my wife HATED IT. She keeps saying "I wish we had seen Vice instead." Then on The Oscars Melissa McCarthy came on with the gown trailed by rabbits and the rabbit hand puppet and she couldn't stop laughing. I said "If you hadn't seen The Favorite you wouldn't have gotten the joke."

Technically he already won one in 2015, so this is his second.

I hoped BlacKKKlansman would have won best movie instead of all the overrated and non deserving (Black Panther) nominations.
BlacKKKlansman was by far the best movie of that lot with Roma a distant second and Teh Favourite and Vice following Roma closely. The rest just weren't worthy of a nomination in my opinon. Must have been a slow year in great movies.

I'm aware but that was a lifetime achievement Oscar, and not in a competitive category. BlacKKK was the best of the Best Pic nominees I saw, but I thought If Beale Street Could Talk was the best film of 2018.

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences pay for it. They fund it with the money they get from the TV networks who televise it.

And now that that question has been asked and answered, let's all place MASSIVE amounts of importance on this awards show. biggrin

Who are the members of the organisation?


Actors, directors, producers, writers, technicians, etc. Basically it's just made up by people within the film industry. It started out back in the 20s with a small amount of people and now consists of over 6000 members. You can only join if you've been invited. And you need to have been nominated for an Oscar to be eligible. It's basically the Stonecutters from The Simpsons, only for movies.

Glenn Close is starting in a movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard." I'll be on ☁9 if she wins for that instead.

Well I thought the show was well done, and it didn't need to have a host. But I just wished that they included in the Stanley Donen, Carol Channing, Vanessa Marquez, Julie Adams, Ricky Jay, Sondra Locke, Verne Troyer, Kaye Ballard, “Rambo” producer Andy Vajna and Dick Miller in the In Memoriam segment sigh Oscars In Memoriam: Penny Marshall and Burt Reynolds Among Those Remembered https://variety.com/2019/...203144556/
