Bogus lists, as no nominations for "The Predator", "Halloween 2018", or "Bad Night at the El Royale" make the 2018 Oscars invalid.

After seeing The Favourite, I have to give props to Olivia Colman. SHe was amazing. BUT, I have not seen the movie Glen Close is nominated for. I have to find where this is playing and see it.

Ah c’mon it’s all just opinion. None of it is important, but at least this year, some of the truly popular movies that people paid money to see actually got nominated! Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born.

Holloween 2018 made money and Jamie Lee Curtis opened a number 1 weekend movie! I think everyone wins with that alone. That’s all they shot for and they hit a bullseye!

What a shit year for Oscar-bait movies. You know when crap like A Star Is Born is the favourite, its been a very forgettable year.

Next year should be better. Martin Scorsese's The Irishman is my pick. Assuming it gets a cinema release so it can qualify for the Oscars.

Oh yeah, I'm just funning.

The only two movies I saw from any category were "Vice" and "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". I didn't think either was that good. Certainly not as good as "The Predator"!

I saw Vice, I thought it was a mess so I am with you there...But dammit if after seeing it and thinking it was a mess I had to admit that Bale WAS Cheney and he hit it out of the park. I already had Bradley Cooper and Rami Malek as Oscar winners but I had to bow down and change my mind and give it to Bale.

Yeah it was a mediocre year for prestige movies, BUT it was a good year for just plain fun movies. I enjoyed a lot of mediocre movies this year. I didn’t see The Predator or Halloween 2018 or El Royale, but that’s what Netflix is for

I'm excited for McCarthy and DaFoe. Excellent jobs in my opinion.

My gawd I've actually seen over half of these, that's never happened before.

2018 really wasn't a great year for cinema ... great opportunity for the Academy to give a nod to great films that usually don't get a mention then like Isle of Dogs or Mandy. Instead they plump for the obvious choices.

And how the hell is Black Panther worthy of Best Picture? It wasn't even the best Marvel film that came out last year.

Logan, The Dark Knight, Avengers ... all way better comic book movies that didn't get nominated.

I love isle of dogs. Haven’t seen Mandy yet. They went with popular films because there really wasn’t any really great films.

I’ve been saying I think Roma should win Best Picture and Director as it is such a beautiful film, But I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It does not have an ending with someone dangling off the side of the cliff or building then falling to their death, but I loved it anyway.

Don't believe Rodeo. The Predator was a major disappointment. It wasn't bad. But there's only one Predator movie. The new Halloween was really good though. Not a match for the original but still good.

Yes. Of all the movies nominated, Roma was by far the best. In my opinion, of course.

Black Panther is nominated for obvious reasons. The movie was OK but nowhere near as good as certain sections of the media claimed it to be. Infinity War was the better film.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

Everyone should watch "The Predator" and then come back and tell us what you thought. Here are your choices:

1. Holy CRAP, that was almost as good as the original "Predator"! Rodeo is a genius!

OR

2. What a major disappointment. Rodeo is usually a genius, but not this time.

Cast your votes and let's see if I'm a genius or if I have to start a thread titled "Hey EmmaMcG, It Turns Out I Am In The Minority Regarding The Greatness Of 'The Predator'".

I'm conflicted on this. To me, when an actor or actress undergoes a major body change for a part, I can never really tell if I'm impressed by their acting, or just by their dedication to body changing.

However I do think Bale did a great job as Cheney. I say this because I wanted to throw something at the screen whenever he was on it, so he MUST have been good!

Lol me too. And it wasn’t just the prosthetics and weight gain, but the voice and mannerisms. I had me all rilled up and angry over what happened a decade ago and I needed a drink after to shake it off. Well, I just wanted a drink, but still.

the bp nominations are a hodge-podge of the obvious, i suppose, and, with the exception of the favourite, they're all a bit ordinary & uninspiring to me. in the past few years, quite a few films slipped in that i was really enthusiastic about. not that these things are to be taken all that seriously. they're fun in a horse-race sort of way, but getting an oscar nomination has always indicated to me a sort of middling blandness, though i think the previous few years have nicely moved away from that, at least a little.

the nicest surprise out of all the categories is the directing nomination for cold war. fat chance pawlikowski will win, but that is such a great film to me, & it's nice to see it getting a bit of recognition outside of the foreign language category.

if anyone's interested, you can watch suprise nomination for best documentary 'of fathers and sons' on kanopy for free if your library participates in that service. i watched it this afternoon, & while i'm not sure it's a truly great doc, it definitely showed me things i'd never seen before, things that i'm pretty sure i won't forget any time soon.

Defoe is one of my all time faves. I actually bumped in to him in London a couple of years ago and I did that stunned OMG that's William Defore dumb smile thing as he walked by ... he gave me a smile and a nod back ... such a cool dude!

Sadly I think he's bottom of this yeas list in terms of chance of winning, not because of the quality of his performance, but because the Academy always go with the obvious choice, ie. Malek or Cooper in this case.

I'd be really happy to see Bale win it; he's this generations greatest actor IMO. I don't think he's the Academies 'cup of tea' though... they only gave him The Fighter because it was a mind blowing performance and they couldn't not give him the award. He'd given tons of performances before that worthy of a nod and didn't even get nominated (Velvet Goldmine, The Machinist, American Psycho, Harsh Times, 3:10 To Yuma).

IMO, while entertaining, it was a Predator for kids.
The real original film was a Predator for man.
