Sudden numbness update.

OK, so thanks to the people who posted on my sudden numbness thread.

I finally went to the doctor. They did a brain scan and there wasn't any signs that i had a stroke. I guess its still possible that i did have a transient ischemic attack, but considering the brain scan results, and the fact that i didn't have any other stroke symptoms(besides the sudden numbness), its probably unlikely that my symptoms are stroke related. I still have numbness on the tip of my right fingers, the right side of my face(mainly my lips), and my right side big toe. The only other things i can think of that might be causing my symptoms are diabetic neuropathy or some other kind of nerve damage(years ago i was in a car accident, car flipped and landed upside down, and messed up my back and neck). I have a couple more doctor appointments, so we shall see...

Chronic pain sucks !

Anyway, take care of your body. You only got one.

No problem. highfive And a big thanks to the people who showed concern... grouphug There's a few old razz people on here, so I'm sure some of them can relate to having health issues. And that's pretty much why i posted what i posted.

And yep, i can't stay away from this place for too long. For the most part i got nothing better to do(social media wise). Overall, my social life is pretty pathetic. biggrin mad eek

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I have both diabetic neuropathy and nerve damage from a few bulging disc episodes. Mine manifests in both my feet.

The good news is that some drugs can mitigate the pain from neuropathy. I take a pill called Gabapentin and my feet have no pain.

But the nerve damage is harder. I don't have much feeling left in my feet and it isn't coming back.

Good luck, I hope you get your stuff all straightened out.

Rodeo, i tried PM you but it doesn't seem to be going through. I tried twice.
So, i was going to ask you about any side effects you may have experienced in taking Gabapentin? PM me if you prefer...

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

With TIAs the brain scan won't reveal any damage or evidence that you've had a TIA. They suspect that I've been having them, because I will lose full vision, or partial vision, suddenly in my left eye. However, symptoms with a TIA only last for a minute or so, maybe a little longer. The longest I've lost my vision has been for 20 minutes. Then it clears up like nothing happened. But the key to a TIA is that it is transient, the symptoms are usually gone within the day (and that's being generous on the length of time - it's usually much sooner). You also don't necessarily get any other stroke symptoms. For me, it's just that vision loss, no other symptom. It's really rather disconcerting because you'd think there would be more to it.

Also, doesn't necessarily have to be diabetic neuropathy. Plan ol' peripheral neuropathy can cause the same kind of symptoms as diabetic neuropathy, but usually there is something that has caused some kind of nerve damage. I have a history of getting DVTs and PEs (deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms - essentially blood clots). From the numerous clots I've had in my left leg, the pressure that the clotted veins have put on nerves, has resulted in some peripheral neuropathy in my left leg.

But what it mainly sounds to me like is a pinched nerve, or something is putting pressure on a nerve. Of course, we've got tons of nerves in our body, but quite a few are connected. For instance, the sciatica nerve can cause issues all down your leg and in your back. It stands to reason that a nerve on the right side of your body may be aggravated or pinched, which is causing the numbness.

I hope you get it figured out though! That can't be pleasant at all. I'm sorry you're going through that.
