"Captain Marvel” tells the story of Carol Danvers, who becomes a powerful hero when the planet is trapped in a battle between two alien races. The movie stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, and Samuel L. Jackson. Stan Lee, who died in November, will make his final cameo appearance in the film.
This one could go either way. The MCU movies are generally between decent and great and I think this will skew closer to the "decent" end of the spectrum. Looking at her powers, she might be too overpowered for any threat to her to seem legitimate but I suppose the Avengers need that if they're to go against Thanos in Avengers Endgame. But I worry that by making her so strong her solo movie will feel insignificant.
I only know the character through X-Men (its where Rogue got her power of flight and strength from, absorbing them from Carol Danvers).
The trailers haven't grabbed me. Brie Larson looks bored, and the characters powers seem too similar to characters that already exist in the MCU. Dr Strange and Ant-Man offered something a bit different, whereas Captain Marvel seems like an overpowered mash-up of Hulk, Cap America and Thor, arriving conveniently enough when the MCU needs someone powerful to give Thanos a kicking.
Remove the early 90s nostalgia from this film, I'm hoping there's still going to be a decent story.

In fairness, you can compare pretty much any superhero to another and find similarities.

Yeah she kinda does. Also looks like Samuel L Jackson has a big part in the movie, and that's not a good thing. I don't see Nick Fury I see only Samuel L Jackson
Cute pussy brings a man to his knees. I knew that. I don't know Captain Marvel. When I would hear the name I thought it was a man. Looking forward to this because she's totally new to me.

The DC superhero, Shazam, used to be called Captain Marvel. You might be thinking of him. Although, I think there was a male Captain Marvel in the Marvel comics too. So you might be thinking of him too. It's all very confusing and it's this kind of thing that's the reason I don't read comic books.

I don't know, I'm with her.
There've been three Captain Marvels in Marvel comics. The first was male (Mar-vel), who was killed off in 1982. He was followed by a black woman named Monica Rambeau (who joined the Avengers), then by Carol Danvers. Danvers had her own short-lived series as 'Ms. Marvel', then she became Binary, then Captain Marvel. As Binary, Danvers had 'Class 100' level strength (Hulk, Thor). Maybe that'll be her level in the film.

Does she have any weakness at all? Like Hulk, he cannot breathe under water if you can hold him, right. Is that the same for CM?

She can survive in space so I'm guessing she'd be OK under water.

Wow. No threat, no wonder she looks bored. She should have to recharge, drink or inject something in order to steamroll everyone and everything in sight. Like Popeye.

According to Marvel's database, Danvers current strength level is 'Class 50', half of what it was when she was Binary. She's no match for the godlike Thanos.

The toys for the upcoming movie show her in "binary mode". I didn't know what that meant but by your posts, I'd guess she'll be VERY strong. Also, I remember reading an interview with Kevin Feige a few months ago where he said she's the strongest superhero in the MCU "by far" and that she can travel at the speed of light, among other things. There's obviously going to be some big differences between the comic book version and the movie version.

As long as they don't make the same mistake DC constantly make with Superman where he's so overpowered there's literally no one that can stand up to him ... it removes all dramatic tension from the story. I've always thought Superman is quite a failed character because he was designed to be completely invincible, convenient kryptonite plot device notwithstanding.

Disagree. He has a weakness, it is that he won't kill (well something he avoids at all cost. Superman could easily kill Luthor). Also he will save a human in danger at the cost of letting the bad guys go.

Superman is my favourite superhero (sorry, kpowers) so I can't agree with that. Besides, every Superman movie, TV show and cartoon I've seen has given him many weaknesses. Kryptonite, of many different colours, his refusal to kill, Lois Lane and his basic human emotions have all been used to good effect. But I do share your worry that Captain Marvel may be too overpowered. By all accounts, the movie version is going to be the MCU's strongest hero, especially when she inevitably learns to use her "Binary" powers. But, on the other hand, Marvel know what they're doing at this point. I'm sure they'll be able to introduce a viable threat.

Carol Danvers is one of the most versatile characters in the MCU. She has been a SHIELD agent, a super hero, a civilian, a space entity (Binary, mentioned above) and she was the character responsible for Rogue's super strength (also mentioned above). Its interesting she has been active in almost every major storyline since the 70s and still unsung. She is like Superman except a human empowered by an alien force. They can't fuck this movie up.
