What are your thoughts of the movie? DVD--It's OK. The extras really don't make it worth purchasing. Scorsese's commentary is WONDERFUL, but after watching it once, you won't watch it again. The Movie: This is one of my absolute favorite films, and one of the rare films that makes one THINK about the true nature of Christ. I found this film to be a strong affirmation about the teachings and works of Christ. I was a kid when this came out and I remember the controversy over the "sex scene." Look, Christ is in heaven right now applauding this film because it shows him as a MAN. He did NOT walk around with a holier-than-thou, dressed in fine robes way. I watch this film often and never tire of it. The last scene--where Christ is old, and telling God "I want to be the Messiah" is one of the most impacting scenes in cinema history. Take it from a guy who's seen almost all of the Jesus films, from Pasolini's "Gospel According to St. Matthew" to "The Passover Plot." I will always love Scorsese for making this film. It took balls...and love. | |
