Sudden numbness on one side of the body

OK, so about a month ago i developed this sudden tingling feeling and numbness on my face and right arm. It lasted about 5 minutes and then went away. Since then it has happened maybe twice, and about a hour ago it happened again. This time it was the whole right side of my body. My face, my arm, and my leg. And it has lasted for about 30 minutes. Its just now starting to go away.

So, my first concern is that I'm having stroke symptoms. I do have high blood pressure and other risk factors, so I'm somewhat worried that something could be going on. I've already decided that i need to get this checked out(haven seen my primary care doctor in like 4 months). The thing that has kept me from seeking immediate care is that the numbness goes away fairly quickly and that their isn't any confusion or paralysis that goes with the numbness. I do get constant headaches and dizziness, but that happens all the time and not necessarily with the numbness.

Anyway, has anybody had any of the symptoms that I've described? Or has anyone ever had a stroke, that they would be willing to talk about?

Thanks for letting me vent. I am a little worried...

Look you. Carry yourself to Urgent care now and let them do what they do. Dammit.

I almost did. I absolutely HATE going to the doctor but this has me kind of worried. I do feel a lot better now, so for the next couple days I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. If between now and Monday it happens again, then I'm probably going to the Emergency Room. For sure though, Monday i will be at my doctor's office.

Anyway, thanks for the Input.

Really wish you would go. It may be nothing but if it isn't would hate for it to lead to something more permanent.

You are likely experiencing a transient ischemic attack. It means you are having transient ischemic symptoms which means they will likely need to check your carotid arteries with ultrasound (they supply your brain), an EKG to make certain you do not have an irregular heartbeat, possibly a head CT scan.

You gotta go and get these tests now. Tests will tell you what is causing this. I am an RN.

Don't mean to scare you but go now. These symptoms will come and go but that does not mean you are all better.

See your primary care doctor immediately! Do NOT ignore the symptoms your body is warning you of; it could be signs of a stroke or something else. The worst possible thing is to ignore signs when your body is telling you something is wrong! I hope you seek treatment and wish the best for your health! I had a friend who ignored severe diabetes symptoms...now she is gone. sad Some of the symptoms you describe could be that, heart problems, or other problems. You won't know until you get tested by a good physician!

Really sorry to hear that about your friend. Diabetes can be an insidious disease. I ignored mine for years. I looked healthy, and felt somewhat healthy, so i didn't take it as serious as i should have. And now that I've gotten a little older, my health issues are not as under control as i would like.

Seriously, JoeyC, if you have suffered from diabetes and suffer from high blood pressure, PLEASE do not ignore the warning signs! It is not so bad to have to take medications...and with a few life changes you can live a long and healthy life!

You have inspired me to see my doc as well. I know what it feels like to not want to go.

They will be able to diagnose and treat your symptoms

Let us know how it goes!

Absolutely. The key is FAST. Whenever any of these symptoms appears you have to get that person to the doctor as soon as possible. Hopefully it’s nothing, but the sooner you get it checked out the better the odds for recovery. Strokes and heart attack treatment and recovery is dependent on how quickly you get it diagnosed and treated.

i had a panic attack like that when i was 35 or so, i went to the emergency room and they gave me a pill and i calmed down. depending on whats going on, i still get them but I know what they are so I don't panic but i do get lots of headaches and stuff too. I try not to worry about any of it too much. one thing i do know, so many symtoms are so common that you can drive yourself nuts worrying about it. recently, i was worried about tb or something lung related, i looked up some info then i stopped because most symptoms are just so fucking vague and general (tired, headache, naseua or what have you) that those stupid lists don't help any. what i do know about strokes is that they are most common after 50 and are pretty rare for a 35 year old. Not impossible though, my mom had a cat scan done and they saw scar tissue which told them she'd had a stroke sometime in her 30's, she never knew, my stepdads mom had a severe stroke at 32 or so, so it does happen. especially in the unhealthy society we live in where everyone is pushing everyone else to do damaging things to themselves.
